What Readers Say about MDT:

We recently returned from our WDW vacation. There was 17 of us (my family/grandkids & my brother’s family/grandkids). Needless to say…….It took some planning! I received Steve's book for Christmas of 2017, read the blogs/FB posts and asked him several questions this past year. I just wanted to say thank you for all of your help and insight! Your book is wonderful, and all of your tips/suggestions are very much appreciated. With all the technology and WDW constantly changing, I really don’t know how people can plan or go there without an expert’s help! So, to anyone thinking of planning a Disney vacation, especially Military……….read everything Steve puts out! - Jennifer H.

I can honestly say that learning about Military Disney Tips is the only reason I am so prepared for my family’s upcoming, once in a lifetime trip. If it wasn’t for all the wonderful advise I would not have been prepared for the 2017 Salute to the Military release nor would we have received a pretty awesome 30% discount off our room. I have so many notes and tips stored away to make our trip magical so thank you, thank you, thank you. - Lisa L.

I just discovered Military Disney Tips recently and I’m so glad I did. I had no idea how wonderful Shades of Green seems to be. I’m so exciting about our first visit. I didn’t know all the wonderful tips for Military families. I have referred to this website many times during the planning of our upcoming trip in March. Thank you for all you do. It’s truely great!! - Michelle S.

I came upon this page during our initial stages of planning our February 2017 Disney World trip and it has been so extremely helpful not only in its content, but when I have a question, I know I can count on Steve to get the answer and get it quickly. It has been my go-to website and I would not be so prepared and informed without it. This website is a staple for this vacation and for our future trips (hopefully!!!) to Disney. - Amy M.

I’ve been to WDW many, many times, but I always learn something new from different websites. This website is especially helpful, since it caters to military personnel. Since the military population is such a small part of normal website’s readership, nobody else puts much effort into military-specific information. MilitaryDisneyTips does that for us. I used to have to dig through a few different websites to finally find the information that I needed, but it’s here, front and center for us. - Jeremy Z.

Just taking a minute for a HUGE thank you for all you do. Your invaluable info gave my family (7 of us including the grandkids) the BEST 2 week Disney World vacation last Oct. - Krissy P.

Military Disney Tips is my go to site for current and correct information for the military community. As soon as Disney made their announcement for the Armed Forces Salute continuing Through 2017 it was on MDT. No speculation, just the actual facts that will help us make important decisions for our vacation budget. - SherryAnne S.

Parking at Disney World’s Epcot for Shades of Green Guests

Or How to find your way back to Shades of Green from Epcot.

Those who elect to drive their POV to Epcot will face a couple of negatives and receive benefits as well.

First, the negatives:

The positives:

If you follow the directions on this page at the end of your day, your driving distance to the Shades of Green's entrance from the parking lot will a minimum of 4.5 miles shorter. Exiting in the opposite direction will present you with multiple ways to get to Shades, none very well marked which cold take you all over Walt Disney World property.

Driving to Epcot

To get to Epcot parking lot turn right as you exit the Shades of Green driveway. After passing the Polynesian Resort, you’ll yield to traffic coming from your left (from the Poly and Magic Kingdom area). Keep going straight, you will eventually merge into a three lane road.

Keep to the right as you will be exiting in about 1.75 miles. You will see the Magic Kingdom Car Care Center on your right, keep going. The first exit that you come to will be for Epcot. You’ll do a 270 degree loop as you exit. Once over the overpass go right at the “Y” to head for the Epcot parking tool booths.

Follow the signs to the parking lot where they are currently parking cars. Then follow the parking attendant’s directions to your spot.

Disney Parking

Disney parks one row at a time.

Attendants will motion you into the row they are working on. They start at the very far end and have you pull to the very front of a painted spot which will hold 2 cars. The car following you will be parking right next to you, so use caution opening your door.

Once the last car is parked in that row (closest to the tram), cars will be sent to the far end again and they will park behind the cars already in the two-car spots.

Safety Notice: Upon exiting your car move IN FRONT of it! Traffic will be continuing down the row right behind you. Walk in front of the row of cars you parked in to the tram pickup location, there is no active traffic there. Do not walk in the row behind where you parked, cars are still being actively parked either in your row or the row behind you! You'll hear Disney cast members yelling at others who have not done this.

MDT Tip: When you reach the end of your row near the tram pickup area, note the number painted on the ground at the end of your row. Take a picture of it with your cell or digital camera, or text it to another person in your party for reference later. Every single row in the huge lot has its own individual number. This will come in handy later!

Leaving the Epcot Lot

So, you’ve accomplished everything you wanted to at Epcot and it’s time to leave. Here is how to proceed.

The parking lot that you parked in determines the route you’ll use to exit.

The Parking lots are:

Journey and Discover – You’ll follow the green arrows in the image below. Exit your parking row via the one way travel in each row. At the end of the row turn right (Journey) or left (Discover). These are one way roads, so follow the arrows.

Both lots feed into a road which crosses over the entrance traffic on an overpass. Just after the overpass, exit to the right and take the 270 degree loop. The overhead sign says “Magic Kingdom.” Do not go straight! This leads to the long way around.

This is depicted by the GREEN ARROWS on the pic.

Then you’ll follow the route shown by the WHITE ARROWS

You’ll do a clockwise 360 degree loop, go over an overpass and then exit to the right, following the signs to the “Magic Kingdom.”

Amaze Create, Imagine, and Explore – You’ll follow the blue arrows in the image Above. Exit your parking row via the one way travel in each row. At the end of the row turn left (Amaze and Create) or right (Imagine and Explore). This is a one way road, so follow the arrows.

As you leave the parking lot area you must yield to traffic coming from your left!

Then keep following the route indicated by the blue arrows on the pic. Do Not take the exits on the right! They lead to the long way around.

Then you’ll follow the route shown by the WHITE ARROWS

Following the white arrows you’ll do a clockwise 360 degree loop, go over an overpass and then exit to the right, following the signs to the “Magic Kingdom” on is World Drive.

On To Shades of Green

Once you’re heading to the Magic Kingdom follow these directions.

As you near the Magic Kingdom parking lot booth keep to the right. Use the second tool booth lane from the right (the far right is for Disney vehicles). Once through the booth, go straight (slightly right).

Do not follow all the other lanes to the left and the Magic Kingdom Parking Lot. Go straight for .85 miles and turn left at the light. On this road you’ll pass the Transportation and Ticket Center and the Polynesian Village Resort. At the stop sigh turn right, Shades will be on the left.

NOTE: Walt Disney World is in the midst of a multi year renovation to the Magic Kingdom parking lot entrance/World Drive area. The redesign will eventually have a flyover for those heading to the Magic Kingdom Resort Area from World Drive so that they do not have to mix into the queue for the Magic Kingdom Parking.

Latest reports from on scene indicate there is a new far right lane which bypasses the ticket booths for those heading to Shades of Green and the other MK Resorts. (Thanks T.J.)
