Federal Government Shutdown

I’ve been on leave this week, but just got the call from the squadron, they are putting plans in effect as it looks like there will be a Federal Government shutdown starting Monday morning.

I was going to continue my leave anyway next week with plans to work on the web site, so no matter what I’ll keep plugging away on the site and some other web projects that I have.

My wife and I were talking this morning and what’s really maddening is the troops off fighting right now, having to keep on without pay.

Not only do they and their families have the stress of the member being deployed while their families try to carry on at home. But now they’ll have to worry about paying the bills too.

Let’s all hope for a quick resolution and keep those Solders, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen – And their Families in our thoughts!

Nothing like taking it down to the wire… Glad they finally worked it out

New Intro to Military Disney Tips Page

I’ve been getting a lot of new readers lately so for those who are new here to MDT I just created a “Start Here” page. It’s a good overview of the site and an intro to military discounts for Disney Vacations. Even those who’ve been to the site before might find something they missed.

Drop by and check it out. I’d love your feedback on if there is anything else you think I should add.

The Power Of 10 – Give Kids The World

Power of 10 websiteSome of you may know of the incredible work done by Give Kids the World – a unique organization located in Kissimmee, FL that fulfills the wishes of children with life threatening illnesses that ask to visit Walt Disney World. If you are not familiar with Give Kids the World, I ask that you take a moment and follow some of the links that are listed at the end of this message. I’m sure you will agree that some truly amazing things are being done at the Give Kids the World village.

Disboards is spearheading a drive to raise $1 Million for GKTW. We are calling this “The Power of 10: The Give Kids the World $1 Million challenge”. Our goal is simple – we are looking for 10,000 people who would be willing to commit to asking 10 friends to donate $10 to this very worthy cause. We have established a special web site http://www.powerof10.us that explains more about our efforts, about Give Kids the World and where and how you can donate.

We all know how magical a Disney vacation is – how much it means to share that experience with our friends and our family. Here is a wonderful opportunity for you to help make that experience a reality for families facing challenges most of us could never imagine. 10,000 people asking 10 friends to donate $10 will make a huge difference to Give Kids the World and the children they serve. Please help us to reach this goal – and share the magic of Disney with the people who need it the most.

Happy New Year 2011

Happy New Year everyone!

I just wanted to say thanks. Thanks for making 2010 the best year so far for Military Disney Tips. This year we had over 49,000 visitors and 177,000 page-views, an all time high. There are lots of other fine Disney sites out there that have much more traffic but none cater to the great demographic the we do here. My hat’s off to all of our fine men and women in uniform, you are all truly heroes!

I did a year-end wrap up in the latest newsletter with all the highlights from the year, including the Military Salute Ticket snafu in October. If you didn’t see it here is the newsletter online version link.

I hope that each and everyone of my readers has a magical 2011. It’s a fresh new year filled with possibilities. Many of you will be using your Military Salute Tickets and Military Discounted Disney Resort stays for huge savings on your Disney vacations. If you have any questions on how to make your Disney vacation the best ever please email me or leave a comment on the blog posts. I’ll do my best to help.

Happy New Year everyone, stay safe!

Steve

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today is one of our special Holidays here in America, a day to give thanks. Also a day for time with friends and family, lots of great food, parades, football, and post turkey naps.

Please take a moment today to give thanks in your own way that we are so fortunate to live in this wonderful country. A country where one can live their dreams as Walt Disney did, starting with nothing to build a franchise which brings so much joy to people today. A country to which people of the world still flock to in order to have a better life for their families and to live their dreams.

Also give thanks today for all of the fine men and women of our armed services both past and present, many of whom are far away from home today. The members of our military have and continue to make sacrifices each and every day to support and defend our nation, and others, around the world. We truly are fortunate to have individuals willing to make these sacrifices!

Today my thanks goes out to all of my military brethren who are far form home today. You truly are Heroes!
