  1. just got off the phone wit disney after several disconnections and was told the discount had sold out. has anyone actually gotten through and made a reservation?

      • Steve- We are getting the same information from the cast members. All discounts have been issued out. We are trying to get ours for the week of Marathon Weekend.

        • For that specific date that could be possible. Remember the general public has been reserving for 2018 since June and the Salute is based upon remaining rooms available. Disney needs to have a need to fill the rooms in order to offer a discount. Popular times in the first half of the year are most likely not available for the discount.

          • We have reserved the rooms for the Marathon for the previous 3 years and converted to the Discount with no issue. We already have the rooms reserved for 2018 and are only wanting to apply the discount. This weekend is not included on the Blackout dates. Should we continue to pursue the discount? Or are we wasting our time?

          • It is always worth keeping trying! Cancellations can open up availability for the discount. Ears of Experience can keep checking for you at no extra charge.

          • We were able to get the discount applied to our rooms this morning! I will give out the names of the employees that helped if you think it would be helpful to others to ask for them.

          • You can ask for a specific cast member if you have their five-digit code to punch into the phone during the computer operator period of the call.

      • To clarify it could be that specific dates are unavailable due to Disney releasing this discount so late.

I think I incorrectly took your comment to mean not available at all for all dates.

      • After several disconnected calls and a couple different cast member we got our discounted! Keep trying guys, it just takes the right person to answer your call

  2. Thank you for the information and much thanks to Disney for their continuing support of our country’s military service men and women!

  3. We secured our reservation but thought I should share. The cast members weren’t told the discount rates but through our calculations it is 35% off deluxe resorts and 30% off moderate resorts. We didn’t check value prices so we are unsure of that discount. Thank you Steve! You’ve helped us secure our reservations ASAP!

  4. Hi Steve, we were able to get our pre cruise stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge for June 2018. It wasn’t quite 40%, but we’re still grateful for the discount and Disney’s continuing support for the military community.

  5. We made our summer 2018 reservations a few weeks ago and after sitting on hold for over an hour, we got the discount with a room upgrade. Thank you very much for the e-mail and for all the information you give out!

  6. Hi Steve
I was one of the first callers for the new salute at 9:04am. We wanted to stay at Port Orleans French Quarter the end of January. Unfortunately that hotel decided not to release any military discount rooms for those dates. No dates for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after either. We have been staying in this hotel every year for 8 years in the past with no problems getting a discounted room. We ended up getting the last pool room in Riverside. (Only pool room or the grand rooms were available at that hotel)
Just wanted everyone to know the rooms are VERY limited this year. But I still want to thank Disney for the discount. We couldn’t take the family every year without it!

  7. Thank you for all of the work that goes into this bog/site. So appreciated! Also a huge thanks to Disney! This discount is so generous!

  8. We are staying in the contemporary in late January. We had a standard room booked, but when my travel agent looked at availability, they didn’t offer it for that room. So we got upgraded to club level room, bay lake view. I believe it was a 30% discount, but it could have been more. I let my travel agent handle all of it. After hearing everyone’s wait times, I am so grateful I am using one!

  9. I’ve been on the phone with WDW reservations for 3.5 hours total. The first agent I spoke with didn’t seem to know much about the discounts and insisted she was giving us the Armed Forces Salute 2018 discount pricing, even though it was $600 more than the calculations we came up with using rack rates and applying the 40% discount (deluxe resort).

I called back a second time and the second agent said that AFS 2018 discounts were not showing up in the system on her computer yet. She also checked our dates with AND without the military discount, and the difference was only $100 total for a 6 night stay. We reserved our rooms despite the prices being way off, and I’ll try to call again tomorrow and every day thereafter until I speak with someone who can give a definitive answer (and hopefully also get the proper discount)!

      • I’ve now made 5 calls and spoken with 4 agents (one call was disconnected after 45 minutes). Still no change in the prices for the week we want (Jan 21-27) at Deluxe level. I also checked the weeks before and after and a couple of random weeks of the year, and kept getting the same percentage rates.

Here are the numbers we’ve been given for Beach Club (least expensive deluxe available at that time):

        online rack rate: $2401
rack rate according to agents (2 different calls): $1891
        Military rate: $1756

With those numbers, the discount off the online rate is 28% and off the phone quoted rack rate, only 7%. (both % rounded)

For comparison, I checked rates for a moderate hotel; the Royal Rooms at Port Orleans.

        online rack rate: $1552
        phone quoted rack rate: $1552
        military rate: $1199

        the discount is 23%

As someone in another comment mentioned, the agents cannot see the percentage discount given for the military rate, I’m a math nerd so I calculated them myself.

At this point, I’m feeling like that’s the best we’re going to find. I’m so very envious of the lucky folks who got the full 40% off — congratulations to you!!!

  10. I’m so excited! I just made a down payment for our Disney World vacation next year in October and Ears of Experience is doing the work for me. The agent doesn’t seem to think there will be any trouble getting a room at the resort i want for the dates I specified using the AFS discount.

  11. Very appreciative and happy that Disney renewed another year…… AND- very grateful for all of your research and advice!!! Thank you very much, Steve!

  12. Hi Steve,

Thanks so much for all your do here. My family and I will be making our first trip to Disney World next year and this site has been incredibly valuable.

I called last night around 9:00 pm and only had to wait about 10 minutes. I was able to make reservations for a long Memorial Day weekend at the Contemporary. They only had two room types available for the discount for those dates – a garden deluxe and a club level tower room – so we opted for the cheaper garden deluxe room . Based on what I could gather from the rack rates, we did end up getting right at a 40% discount, which seems to not line up with what others are posting here. Either we got lucky or they started to figure things out more throughout the day…

    • Thanks Justin!

I’m investigating. It sounds like the amount off may now also depend on timeframe (rooms available).

  13. Thank you Steve for all your hard work providing us with updates! Thanks to your email alert I was able to contact Disney yesterday early afternoon and had no trouble converting a previously made reservation for 3 rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort to the military discount rate. Saved us $80 per night per room just before the spring break block out period. So thankful to Disney for generously providing this discount to the military community!

  14. Just booked the Beach Club this morning for June. It was a little less than 40% off. CM was very helpful. Wait time was about 40 minutes.

  15. I booked a royal room at Port Orleans Riverside for 5 nights and got 30% off. I booked 1 night at All Star Music (our arrival day) and got 25% off. I knew when I was on the phone that it seemed like I didn’t get 35% off the moderate and 30% off the value. This is my first time booking a moderate so I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve seen that you are investigating this, Steve, so I thought I’d chime in with my experience. I am thankful for any discount at all but I’m hoping this was an mistake and we can have our rates adjusted soon. Thanks for all you do!

  16. Thank you so much Steve and Disney!! I was on hold for 45 minutes yesterday and accidentally hung up on them!! Called back and 48 minutes later I had no issues getting the discount for our 9 day March trip staying at OKW, which took $2000 off of our Disney balance! We are truly grateful for all you do..and to Disney for continuing this amazing program!!

  17. Just booked All Star Sports with the military discount from Jan 17-23! Total was $575 which is about a 25 percent savings from the going rate. I had booked Port Orleans Riverside back in June but was unable to apply a discount to the room I booked then. The only moderate resort available for the discount during my time was the Caribbean Beach. Also, I was told that value receives a 20 percent discount, moderate a 25 percent and deluxe a 35 percent. Hope that helps!

  18. I’ll be watching closely for any updates you have on the Resort discounts. I am finding that 35% off deluxe, 30% off moderates and 25% off values is pretty much what I am coming up with, too :/

  19. Don’t give up, don’t ever give up. I called twice yesterday & was told the AFS rate was not available at the Polynesian from Sept 2-8, 2018. I was thinking about moving my reservation to a hotel with availability, but had my heart set on the Poly.

I called back tonight & just asked if there were any rooms available for the AFS during my planned dates. To my surprise, the CM I spoke to found a “pool/marina” view with discount availability. I had originally booked the standard view. I realize the new “view” costs more, but after the discount was applied (along with my deluxe dining plan) my new total was over $1000 less than it was 24 hours ago.

Long story short, be flexible and keep trying. Sending a little extra pixie dust to the rest of you.

Thank you Disney, for your continued support for the military. Both my step-dad an mom are the retired service members. Thank you Steve for your continued information for our community and most importantly, thank each and every one of you, who have and continue to don the uniform. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your service!

  20. I made my reservation yesterday. I couldn’t figure out why the cost was a lot higher than my figures came up with. I finally got the confirmation email today with the day-by-day break down of the cost of the room.

I booked at a moderate resort, but I did NOT get a 35%. The discount for the moderate was 30%. The difference between the 30% discount I got and the 35% that they used to do for moderates came to almost $120.

I think the discount DID change for 2018. It certainly did on my reservation.

  22. Am I correct in understanding there’s no spring break blackout dates for tickets this year??!! Also if we are military and have APs we can still buy 5 military salute passes for family members traveling with us but not all 6 right? (Sorry I posted this question on FB first but then read your post stating to ask questions here instead!)

    • Hey Jodi,

      No problem.

There are no WDW ticket blockout dates. But there are room blockouts at WDW and both at DLR. No change to the AP procedure as far as I know.

  24. Do you know if the tickets are available for order at shades of green yet? We are coming right after New Years and I want to get them asap. Thanks!

    • Hi Mindee,

It usually takes them a couple weeks to get going with the new ones. Give it a week than try.

  25. Has anyone gotten a 2018 discount for the standard value resort rooms?
We got one a few years ago but I called yesterday and the cast member said there was no discounts for those rooms on the family suit which was still over 2000 for the week and only sleeps 5 people.

  26. I had little trouble getting a room at the Polynesian Resort yesterday (less than 30 minutes). There does seem to be a sliding rate differing of discount from the normal week and the “weekend”. Also one of my children coming with us will be 18 so I had to pay the “extra” adult fee – My calculations show that they took the percent off the regular rack rate THEN added the extra adult (which did not get any rate reduction). So that really confused my calculations. I did save over $2500 for a seven night stay there, can’t really complain too much there.

  27. Is it possible to get a discount on our rooms if they were booked back in February? We are reserved for the Marathon in January, 2018 and everything goes through RunDisney. Was told they could not apply military discount. Ordered hopper passes, was not aware Disney gave generous discounts on park tickets.

  28. Are the 2018 tickets for Disneyland available? Where can I get them? Since on post they said they might not get them until next year. My vacation is planned for the first week of January. Thanks

    • Hi Yahaira,

Disneyland will have them at the theme park ticket booths! It is the Base Ticket Offices that could be delayed. Getting tickets ahead of time is not necessary at Disneyland as there is no advance FastPass.
