Walt Disney World Resort Announces Family Friendly Facelift For Pleasure Island
Disney’s six adult oriented night clubs (the Adventurers Club, Comedy Warehouse, 8-Trax, BET Soundstage, Mannequins Dance Palace, and Rock and Roll Beach Club) will close for good after 27 September 2008. Over the next two years Disney will phase in new family friendly venues. Disney feels they have a shortage of dining and shopping capacity so they’ll be adding more restaurants and shops.
Currently Pleasure Island which caters to young adults sits between the Downtown Disney West End and Downtown Disney Marketplace which are both family friendly shopping/dining/entertainment areas. Disney has had numerous complaints from guests who had to trek through the parking lot past the ticketed adult venue to get from one family area to the other.
While the night clubs will be closed the following current restaurants and shops will remain open during the transition: Raglan Road, Fuego by Sosa Cigars, Curl by Sammy Duval, Orlando Harley-Davidson as well as other outdoor food and beverage locations.
Pleasure Island has catered to a regular crowd from Orlando and tourists looking for an adult night out while on vacation for nineteen years. The locals will most likely transition to Universal’s City Walk further north. Those staying on property will have to make the commute or settle for the somewhat tamer options available on property.
