UPDATE 1 Nov 2012: Disney Officials confirmed to me today that they will sell military discounted MVMCP tickets to military members (for the dates with a mil discount) even if the date is sold out to the general public. This alleviates the worry that your desired date will be sold out before you get there.
To buy mil tickets for sold out dates you must buy them at a Magic Kingdom Guest Services window, not a ticket window. Look for the Guest Service signs, usually to the far right.

Hi, I’ve been researching MMVCP and on a couple of other sites the date has been extended to Dec 2…. so I’m wondering, in your experience, do they release more dates as the year progresses, or do you think the Dec 2 date I’ve seen for military discount is just a typographical mistake (wishful thinking)?
I hadn’t heard that yet Sandy, but I will be at Shades tomorrow and I’ll check!
2 Dec Will also be a military discount date!
Was wondering about dec 2 as well found it on a few web sites and would like clarification as we arrive on nov 30
Yes it a Discount date as well
Have the military discount nights sold out often in the past? I am not sure I should risk it selling out if I have to wait until we get to Disney to buy the tickets.
Hi Dawn,
I’ve not heard from anyone that its happened to them, but I asked the gang on my facebook page to see if anyone had experienced this.
Here is the link: http://www.facebook.com/MIlitaryDisneyTips/posts/357881287620174?notif_t=share_comment
Do you have to go to the park that day or can you just attend that night?
It’s a totally separate ticket for the after hours party. So you don’t have to go to the park during the day, but you can and stay through if you want.
Thank you! That works perfect for us!
These tickets are like a half day park pass, so..
if you want an extra “day” at the parks, try this. On the day you have your MVMCP, explore downtown disney, or boardwalk, or hang out at your resort instead of using up a day of your regular tickets. Then go to MK at 4pm for the party.
Great ideas Brent
Personally, I got dd a DTD BBB reservation for 2 pm that day and then we will head to the magic kingdom with some possible resort hopping before the reservation to see decorations. The wilderness lodge is my favorite! This way we are my wasting any park time at the BBB in mk and she still gets the experience and to go into the park all done up!
Another great plan! We love WDW at Christmas. The WL is the best. The Grand Floridian with the life size gingerbread hours is great too.
So, you can get in at 4pm? Love your site, btw!
Thanks Jessica!
Yep you sure can, they start letting party guests in at 4pm.
Awesome, Thanks!!
Can you purchase tickets at the discounted rate for more than 1 Christmas party date? We would need 2 tickets for 1 night and 5 tickets for another night. Thanks!
Antoniette I’ve been told that this year Disney is using the same policies as the Armed Forces Salute for eligibility and that they are limiting people to 6. But I don’t know how 2 different nights would play into that. Buy your first two one day and the rest on another but be sure to ask if you can buy them again so soon. You might or might not get the fifth one at the mil rate.
Do you know if all guests need to have a military ID for the christmas party? my in laws want to go, and id like to get all the tickets at a discounted rate.
No Lisa, just the member or spouse buying the tickets needs the mil ID.
Have Fun!
Hi Steve,
Any idea if my husband and I can each buy the max amount of tickets for the first Christmas party night? We are travelling with family and feel bad telling half of them that we can’t get them discounted tickets, I wasn’t sure if Disney kept track of who had purchased them, or if they have ever been flexible with the number of tickets sold per family. Thanks!
Hi Denise,
As far as I know, Disney is using the same criteria for the Halloween and Christmas parties as they do for the Armed Forces Salute, which is a total of 6 tickets. THey track the AFS tickets by the member’s name and address. Never hurts to ask!
We are coming during the Christmas holidays and are we able to purchase tickets at a discounted rate or is it a blockout time?
Hi LaShaunda,
You can’t use Disney’s Armed Forces Salute tickets at all 24-31 December so if your dates fall within those you’ll need to use the regular military discounted tickets. you can get these from your Base Ticket Office or Shades of Green.
I read on a message board that disney will now let you order the party tickets online befor hand to ensure the party you want doesn’t sell out and will refund the price differance at will call or a ticket window. Is there any truth to this rumor? Thanks!
Hi Amy,
Some people did have success with this for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. I have also heard that they will allow military to purchase their discount tickets (for the dates with discounts) even if the date is sold out. But Disney Has no published policy and even though I queried them over three weeks ago about this and have not heard back.
I do know quite a few people were turned away at the gate for MNSSHP on 28 Sept when trying to get military tickets for a sold out date. I have not heard of anyone not being given a refund to the military rate on pre-purchased tickets. But either way you are taking your chances.
UPDATE: Amy I was just briefed by Disney officials that their policy will be: That military members will be sold MIlitary Discount Tickets to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas party (for dates that allow the discount) in person at a Magic Kingdom ticket booth or Downtown Disney Guest Relations, even if the event is sold out to the general public.
I’ve tried twice to buy military discounted tickets for a sold out date (Nov 9). I’ve been told by two different cast members (at downtown disney and at magic kingdom) that it’s not possible once it’s sold out. They said that it doesn’t make a difference if it’s a military discount or not.
Who did you speak to that contradicts what I’m being told?
I haven’t pressed the issue yet and asked to speak to a manager, but probably will in the next day or so.
Thanks!
I was just informed that Nov 9 is not included in the dates for the military discount.
Who knows what the truth is … I just wish everyone would get their stuff together because I’m tried of all of the running around between the military rates and Disney saying this is not true and I don’t know where you got your information from.
So I would not go with the hopes of there being a military discount on Nov 9th.
Hey Dulcie,
IDK… Both Allears and WDWinfo show the 9th as a military discount night too. My info is coming from WDW Media Relations. I was assured they would have it all in one bag this time. Tired of them making me look bad…
I just got off the phone with Guest Experience Services after an email I sent to Meg Crofton …. And was told that the dates did not include the 9th according to the email she just received this morning….
I’m just wishing they gave better resources because I was told to always depend on the Disney site for the current information….BUT It’s as clear as mud on there.
We will be there this weekend and I am NOT depending on a military discount and won’t go if we can’t get one for the 9th…It’s not worth $200.00 I’m sure.
We are a military family arriving Nov. 9 th and would like to go to MVMCP that night. Because it is sold out, I was excited that your update said we could purchase tickets at the gate, but when I called Disney to verify, they said no. Do you have an official email or contact person I could mention at the gate? I’m trying not to be turned away withthree disappointed kids.
Hi Meredith,
I’m working w/ Disney to get it straightened out. I’ll comment here and on facebook as soon as I hear.
We also tried getting the MVMCP tickets today and were turned away by several people. They all stated they didn’t know of anything in place to sell to military members on sold out dates.Hopefully things get straightened out by Disney and they hook us up like they said they would. Thanks Steve for checking on this.
Hi everyone, just got off the phone with WDW Media Relations and you need to go to the Magic Kingdom Guest Relations window (not a ticket window) to purchase your military tickets for the 9 Nov MVMCP. These castmembers are guaranteed to be up to speed on the new policy.
I was wondering about the following:
“These special tickets are an Advance Purchase Price and must be purchased prior to midnight the day prior to your desired date.”
I have gone the last 2 years and purchased my tickets at 4pm at the MK ticket booth and walked right in the same night. I live about an hour from WDW but don’t want to have to make the ride twice if I don’t have to. Have they changed this to only Advance Purchase??
Hi Dawn,
As far as I know this has always been part of the Christmas and Halloween Party rules. Although I did not specifically see it mentioned this year, I left this in so no one would miss out.
I did hear from one reader that he tried to purchase day of military tickets to MNSSHP this year and he reported the castmember could not find the rate in the computer for the date in question. A Disney Tickets castmember has told me that the advance purchase prices will drop out of the computer and are un-usable at midnight the day prior.
“UPDATE 1 Nov 2012: Disney Officials confirmed to me today that they will sell military discounted MVMCP tickets to military members (for the dates with a mil discount) even if the date is sold out to the general public. This alleviates the worry that your desired date will be sold out before you get there.”
THIS IS NOT TRUE!!! I read this was the case for Halloween and went to the park to get my tickets and was told that I could NOT get it because the event was sold out and there is NOT an exception for military. I even called the Disney info line to ask and was told that sold out is sold out, no exceptions.
Carrie,
This is the new policy and it started on 7 Nov. with some growing pains, just like during the Halloween party. This was supposed to be the policy back then, but WDW tickets screwed it up. I’m sorry that you experienced trouble when you tried to do this!
But quite a few people were able to buy military tickets for the 9 Nov sold out party.
Steve
Hi I am a military spouse and had a quick question! We are coming in November and want to purchase tickets to the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. I am getting conflicting answers to my question so figured you’d be the best place to ask! We are unable to obtain tickets until we get to disney, but by that time The event might be sold out for the date we want. I know they only offer certain dates at the military discount and we want November 17th which is one offered. So my question is, if that date is sold out to the general public are we able to still get into the event by purchasing a military ticket when we get down there? People from disney are giving me different answers. I know we cannot order them over the phone or online so I am afraid it is going to be sold out since we have to wait, but are we still going to be able to get tickets if it is sold out? Some say no and we have to purchase regular price and other had no clue and couldn’t help me! PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanks so much!
Hi Jessica,
Thanks for checking in.
You’ve just stated what was a huge problem with these tickets for the MNSSHP and the MVMCP.
Last year I brought this up with WDW and in mid offer they modified the policy to allow military members to purchase the tickets in person even if the event was sold out. But unfortunately there were some issues with training of Disney ticket workers and some military guests were turned away and in other cases I was able to intervene and get them their tickets.
My Disney contacts, earlier this summer, told me that they were planning to have the same procedure this year, but would confirm as we got closer.
I am awaiting an email back from my WDW Press Relations contact to confirm that this procedure will actually be in place this year and that all cast members will be trained. That’s why I haven’t posted yet about it.
I hope to hear early in the week (on Friday he told me he needed a little more time).
Watch the blog or Facebook next week for the post!!!
