Your Base’s Information Tickets and Travel (ITT) Office can be a fantastic resource for finding Military Discounts.

Not only can you purchase Military Discounted tickets for destinations such as Walt Disney World, Disneyland, the Universal Studios parks, and the Anheuser-Busch theme Parks (the SeaWorlds & Busch Gardens) at the ITT Office, but you also can find discounts on other local attractions as well as many regional hotels.

My base ITT Office just hosted a Travel Fair, at which representatives from many destinations set up booths to inform military members of their military discounts. There were representatives from some South Eastern towns, Orlando area hotels, and Orlando area attractions including: Universal Studios Orlando, Kennedy Space Center, Legoland Florida, Gatorland, and Boggy Creek Airboat Rides. Each had literature and information to pass out.

Some highlights were:

Universal Studios Orlando – Confirmed no plans to bring back a “Special Military Discount” like Disney’s Armed forces Salute. Universal’s last similar offer ended in March 2010. The only discount available is the roughly 10% at your ITT Office or Shades of Green. The Universal representative did confirm that the lack of a military discount was due to the volume of full price traffic driven by their new Harry potter themed attraction and merchandise. She also mentioned that they needed the cash flow to offset the cost of the remodel. So yhey are only offering their regular military discount through ITT and Shades of Green as well as their Military Room and Ticket packages.

Kennedy Space Center – Continues to offer discounted tickets through ITT Offices and Shades of Green, but the rep. said that as soon as next week she expected to be able to offer free admission to active and retired members as well as 50% off for their guests.

Legoland Florida – Offers a 10% Military Discount at the gate, but much better discounts through your ITT Office.

Many Orlando Area Hotels with Military Discounts – Many hotels had reps offering rates as low as $42.00 per night at locations near Disney World or Universal Studios, many with shuttle service to the theme parks. If you are interested in the lowest rates and don’t mind staying off Disney property drop by your ITT office as that is where these hotels offer the lowers rates.

Always compare the rates you find on all hotels.

Make sure you factor all costs associated with each option as you’ll have to pay for different things depending on where you stay.

• Parking (at your hotel, at the theme parks)
• Transportation (airport, to the theme parks)
• Resort fees and taxes

Careful preplanning will help you save quite a bit!
