About 6 months ago I attended Disney’s Heroes Work Here Career Expo at Walt Disney World. An event held there and at two other locations nationwide. They were part of Disney’s commitment to provide at least 1,000 career opportunities for veterans over the next three years through their recruitment outreach program and casting (hiring in Disney lingo) efforts for veterans.
The invitation only event was a huge opportunity for those who were able to attend. The highlights were a personal resume review by Disney Casting (Human Relations) specialists and three classes tailored towards the military professional entering the civilian job market.

DISNEY’S WEBSITE
Since the event Disney has continued to reach out online to veterans with a special Heroes Work Here website. The site provides information on the company, their commitment to veterans, and lots of useful information for the military job seeker. They’ve even posted the PowerPoint slides from the three training classes held at the Career Expos.
The best resource on the site though is the Career Areas page, where you can do a tailored search of current Disney job openings based upon your military experience with just one click. A few of examples are:
- Junior Level NCO or Officer with Troop Leading Time
- Operations or Military Police/Law Enforcement
- Quartermaster / Operation Logistics
- Signal Branch / Information Systems
After checking out this special Heroes Work Here site you can follow the program on your favorite social network: Facebook or Twitter (general account) or #heroesworkhere.
With the challenging financial times that we live in it is nice that Disney is making so many efforts to help our military/veteran community in so many ways.
Not only with the Heroes Work Here initiative, but also with their community outreach and military/veteran discounts.
DISNEY OUTREACH
Disney focuses support on four organizations which provide programs and services that assist veterans and their families.
These organizations are: Blue Star Families, The Mission Continues, USA Cares, and Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
Disney supports the USO to help comfort service members and their families by sending Operation Disney Care Packages to USO centers around the world. In addition, Disney VoluntEARS participate in a variety of global service projects and have helped to send over 100,000 Disney Operation Uplift postcards to service members worldwide. Through the VoluntEARS program, Disney employees also have the chance to participate in service projects with veterans’ organizations in communities around the country.
