Military Disney Tips was honored to be invited to the Pre-Opening Media Preview of Walt Disney World’s new Toy Story Land two days prior to its opening on 30 June.
The weather looked iffy, there was heavy rain on the radar all around WDW, but the rain kept breaking up and going around on both sides just like magic! Luckily there were just a couple of very light sprinkles during the event.
Though the cloudy skies were not that conducive to awesome pictures, I’ll be sharing quite a few of the best from the event so that you can get a feel for the new land.
The Green Army Men were on duty to protect Andy’s back yard, so you’ll see lots of pictures of them.
We’ll also take a look at the 2 new attractions, Woody’s Lunch Box, the new counter service restaurant and a few of the items offered there, and some of the merchandise offered for sale.
The new Toy Story Land is at the back-right corner of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, past the original entrance to Toy Story Mania (which is now relocated into Toy Story Land).
When you enter Toy Story Land you’ll be “shrunk down to the size of a toy” so that all the features (toys and such) will appear in the correct proportion to your new tiny stature.
Toy Story Land Attractions
There are 3 attractions in Toy Story Land, the original Toy Story Mania plus the Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers.
Your spaceship follows the alien’s saucer in alternating clockwise and counter-clockwise circles, whipping to the outside of the turn. For those familiar with Disneyland’s Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, it is just the same.
The Slinky Dog Dash coaster is my favorite ride in the new land!
It is similar to the Barnstormer at WDW’s Magic Kingdom as far as coaster aggressiveness, i.e. not that bad. It is a lot of fun!
Woody’s Lunch Box
Woody’s Lunch Box is the only restaurant in Toy Story Land. They offer a variety of items that you might find in a lunch box and kid’s favorites with an upscale twist.
My absolute favorite thing that I tried was the Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich – Melted Provolone and Cheddar Cheeses with a Cheddar Cream Cheese Spread on Garlic Buttered Grilled Artisan French Bread $8.99. Ours came with a side of the Tomato-basil Soup for dipping $3.69. Both were awesome!
Also very good on the Lunch/Dinner Menu was the Monte Cristo Sandwich – Thick-sliced Smoked Turkey Breast, Ham, Raspberry Marmalade, Dijon Mustard and Melted Swiss Cheese on Grilled Custard soaked Brioche $11.49.
I’m not much of a yogurt for breakfast person, but this breakfast item was delicious! Pineapple, Banana Split Yogurt Parfait – Strawberries and Banana between layers of Vanilla Yogurt and Honey topped with Granola and Dark Chocolate Chips $5.99.
Also very good on the breakfast menu was the S’more French Toast Sandwich – Marshmallow and Chocolate Ganache stuffed in Grilled Custard soaked Brioche encrusted with Graham Cracker Crumbs $7.99.
Woody has drinks for the moms and dads too. I tried both of the cocktails and they were good and quite refreshing in the heat. Not too sweet with the alcohol to cut the juice (I don’t like my drinks that sweet).
The Potato Barrels (AKA: Tater Tots) that are featured on the menus heavily were all very dry and would greatly benefit from the various toppings most come with.

Merchandise
On to the merchandise that will be available in Toy Story Land (and most every where else at WDW).
Lots of cool stuff! From hats and shirts to toys, something for everyone!
