Riverside<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Disney&#8217;s Moderate Resorts occupy the middle of Walt Disney World&#8217;s three traditional hotel categories, but thinking of them simply as the step between Value and Deluxe misses much of the point.<\/p>\n<p>You are paying more than you would at a Value Resort, but what you get for that extra money depends heavily on which Moderate you choose.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest differences aren&#8217;t necessarily inside the room. Better pools, more dining choices, attractive grounds, lounges, recreation, and\u2014in a couple of cases\u2014better transportation can make the resort itself a bigger part of your vacation.<\/p>\n<p>That can be worth paying for if you intend to use those things. If your room is mostly somewhere to sleep between long park days, a Value Resort can still make more sense.<\/p>\n<p>For military families, there is another comparison worth making. A Disney Moderate and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/shades-of-green-resort-at-walt-disney-world\/\">Shades of Green<\/a> solve the resort decision very differently, particularly when room size and Disney theming enter the equation.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Which_Disney_Resorts_Are_Moderates\"><\/span>Which Disney Resorts Are Moderates?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Walt Disney World currently has four Moderate Resorts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/walt-disney-world-resorts\/disneys-caribbean-beach-resort\/\"><strong>Disney&#8217;s Caribbean Beach Resort<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 A sprawling Caribbean-themed resort with the Disney Skyliner as its biggest transportation advantage<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/walt-disney-world-resorts\/disneys-coronado-springs-resort\/\"><strong>Disney&#8217;s Coronado Springs Resort<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 A large resort with extensive dining and convention facilities plus the very different Gran Destino Tower experience<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/walt-disney-world-resorts\/disneys-port-orleans-resort-riverside\/\"><strong>Disney&#8217;s Port Orleans Resort &#8211; Riverside<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 A large, beautifully landscaped resort divided between Alligator Bayou and Magnolia Bend, with boat service to Disney Springs<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/walt-disney-world-resorts\/disneys-port-orleans-resort-french-quarter\/\"><strong>Disney&#8217;s Port Orleans Resort &#8211; French Quarter<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 The smallest and most compact Moderate, with New Orleans theming and boat service to Disney Springs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Cabins at Disney&#8217;s Fort Wilderness Resort were once part of Disney&#8217;s Moderate category. It doesn&#8217;t tell you what staying at each resort will be like.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Caribbean_Beach_Choose_It_for_the_Skyliner\"><\/span>Caribbean Beach: Choose It for the Skyliner<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Caribbean Beach is large and spread out, but it has one transportation advantage the other Moderates cannot match: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/disney-resorts\/soaring-to-the-magic-a-look-at-the-disney-world-skyliner-resorts\/\">Disney Skyliner<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The resort is the hub of the Skyliner system, giving guests aerial gondola transportation to EPCOT and Disney&#8217;s Hollywood Studios. Buses handle the other theme parks and Disney Springs.<\/p>\n<p>That can materially change a vacation if EPCOT and Hollywood Studios are important to your plans. Instead of treating transportation as something you simply tolerate at the resort, the Skyliner can become a reason to choose it.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Coronado_Springs_The_Moderate_That_Can_Feel_Least_Like_a_Moderate\"><\/span>Coronado Springs: The Moderate That Can Feel Least Like a Moderate<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Coronado Springs is unusual because it combines a traditional sprawling Moderate Resort with Gran Destino Tower.<\/p>\n<p>The Village rooms in Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas retain the more familiar Moderate layout with resort buildings that have exterior room entry. Gran Destino is a multistory hotel with interior corridors, an impressive lobby, lounges, restaurants, and rooms that feel much closer to a conventional upscale hotel.<\/p>\n<p>Coronado also has the strongest overall dining and lounge lineup in the Moderate category.<\/p>\n<p>The tradeoff is transportation. Disney buses are the only complimentary transportation to the theme parks and Disney Springs, and the resort has multiple bus stops around its large campus.<\/p>\n<p>Gran Destino can therefore be a very appealing choice if the hotel and dining experience matter more to you than having a non-bus connection to a park.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Port_Orleans_%E2%80%93_Riverside_Beautiful_Relaxed_and_Very_Large\"><\/span>Port Orleans &#8211; Riverside: Beautiful, Relaxed, and Very Large<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Riverside is divided between the rustic Alligator Bayou buildings and the more formal Southern mansion buildings of Magnolia Bend.<\/p>\n<p>It is one of those resorts where the grounds themselves are part of the appeal. The Sassagoula River, mature landscaping, bridges, walking paths, and spread-out layout create a particularly relaxed atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>That same size can also be its disadvantage. Your room location can make a meaningful difference in how far you walk to dining, the main pool, and transportation.<\/p>\n<p>Riverside also offers boat transportation to Port Orleans &#8211; French Quarter and Disney Springs in addition to Disney buses.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Port_Orleans_%E2%80%93_French_Quarter_The_Compact_Moderate\"><\/span>Port Orleans &#8211; French Quarter: The Compact Moderate<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>French Quarter is the outlier in the category.<\/p>\n<p>It is much smaller than Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, and Riverside.
