href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/shades-of-green-resort-at-walt-disney-world\/\">Shades of Green<\/a> is a DoD Owned and Operated Resort on Walt Disney World property. It&#8217;s a former Disney Owned Deluxe Resort that maintains what I call a Deluxe minus or Moderate Plus level of amenities at a price level between the Values and Moderates. A single factor might be the most important for you and control your decision. You have to have enough beds for everyone to sleep!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As you go up in the number of people, \u00a0room price (room class) increases and category (Value, Moderate, Deluxe, DVC) elevates.<\/p>\n<p>Below, each resort is listed with the number of people in their rooms will sleep. Naturally, if a room sleeps 6, it can fit 4 or 5 as well. A 2 indicates a solo King bed room. Suites naturally come with a significant price bump. Many suite options have a king-size bed in the master. The Disney Vacation Club Resorts, which are also deluxe, can also be booked just like regular Resort Rooms.<\/p>\n<p>As Disney&#8217;s resort categories go up, so does the price and amenities offered.<\/p>\n<p>Each Resort has multiple room types at various price points.<\/p>\n<p>Prices vary by date at all Disney resorts! The more popular times of the year to vacation (when kids are out of school) are more expensive.<\/p>\n<p>All prices are based on double occupancy. Kids under 18 are free. Each additional adult adds an additional $10 at Values, $15 at Moderates, and $25 at Deluxes<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Value_Resorts\"><\/span>Value Resorts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There are five different Value Resorts on Walt Disney World Property. These are the lowest priced of Disney\u2019s resorts and, understandably have the lowest level of amenities.<\/p>\n<p>Non-discounted prices here start at just over a hundred dollars and go up to almost six hundred for some suites.<\/p>\n<p>Being entry level resorts, Values have entry level amenities such as: Quick Service food courts, pizza delivery, an arcade, playground, heated pools, basic pool bar, luggage service, in room safe, iron and board, and coffee makers.<\/p>\n<p>These resorts are very large is size, containing from 1600 to about 3000 rooms each. Due to the lower price, younger families, children\u2019s athletic teams participating in competitions at Disney\u2019s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, and South American vacationers mostly frequent them. The cabins at Fort Wilderness top out at almost eight hundred. The Coronado Springs Resort has a convention center and caters to conventioneers, this is the only non-Deluxe Resort to have Club Level rooms. Suites here can top out over two thousand dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Disney Moderate rooms are somewhat larger than the Value rooms (on average 315 square feet compared to 260). They offer a small table and two chairs, dresser, TV, and small fridge. The bathroom proper is separated from the double sink vanity area, while the vanity area can be separated from the room with a curtain or door. This is to give you a quick sense of what the resort is near. There are five resort areas they are Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, ESPN Wide World of Sports, and Disney Springs Resort Areas.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Magic Kingdom Area<\/b> has four Deluxe Resorts and a campground with campsites and moderate-level Cabins. They are the Contemporary Resort, Grand Floridian Resort &amp; Spa, Polynesian Village Resort, Wilderness Lodge, and Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. All of these, except the Campground, have a colocated Disney Vacation Club (DVC) property.<\/p>\n<p>As you would imagine, the Magic Kingdom Resorts are closest to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/walt-disney-world-theme-parks\/magic-kingdom\/\">Magic Kingdom<\/a>. The two original resorts (Contemporary and Polynesian) as well as the newer Grand Floridian, are \u201cMonorail Resorts.\u201d They are located on the Magic Kingdom <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/disney-transportation-overview\/soaring-above-the-magic-the-enchanting-world-of-disneys-monorails\/\">monorail<\/a> line, which makes the transit to the park a snap. They are also some of the most expensive rooms on property because of this. All Magic Kingdom Resorts have boat service to the Magic Kingdom as well, and bus service to the remainder of the property. The Contemporary and Grand Floridian are close enough to walk to the Magic Kingdom!<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Polynesian has a bit longer walk.<\/p>\n<p>The Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness are located nearby on Bay Lake. As mentioned, they have boat service to the Magic Kingdom as well and bus service property wide.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Epcot Area<\/b> has three Deluxe Resorts, one DVC Resort, and one Moderate. They are the Yacht Club, Beach Club, BoardWalk Inn, the new Riviera, and the Caribbean Beach Resort. The first three, all Deluxes, are located adjacent to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/walt-disney-world-theme-parks\/epcot\/\">Epcot<\/a> and offer boat service to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/walt-disney-world-theme-parks\/epcot-international-gateway\/\">Epcot International Gateway<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/walt-disney-world-theme-parks\/disneys-hollywood-studios\/\">Disney Hollywood Studios<\/a> entrances. You can also easily walk to Epcot, while the Studios is a bit longer walk. The Riviera, the DVC, and the Caribbean Beach, the Moderate are located across a major street from Epcot, so no walking, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/walt-disney-worlds-skyliner\/\">Skyliner<\/a> gondola service is available to Epcot and Hollywood Studios as well as bus service to all other WDW destinations.<\/p>\n<p>From Epcot\u2019s International Gateway, guests of the Yacht Club, Beach Club, and BoardWalk Inn may enter the rear section of EPCOT or board the new Skyliner gondola system.<\/p>\n<p>Walt Disney World\u2019s Skyliner provides service between Epcot\u2019s International Gateway and Hollywood Studios as well as the Riviera, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, and Art of Animation Resorts.<\/p>\n<p>In this Resort Area only the BoardWalk and Beach Club have co-located DVC properties. The Riviera Resort is a stand-alone DVC property.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Animal Kingdom Area<\/b> has one Deluxe, one Moderate, and three Value Resorts. They are in order, the Animal Kingdom Lodge, Coronado Springs, and the three All-Star Resorts (Movies, Music, and Sports). The only transportation method available for all of these resorts is the WDW bus system. The Animal Kingdom Lodge has a colocated DVC property.<\/p>\n<p><b>The ESPN Wide World of Sports Area<\/b> has two Value Resorts. They are the Pop Century and the Art of Animation Resorts. These two Values are the newest of the Disney Value Resorts, with Animation being the newest. Skyliner gondola service is available to Disney Hollywood Studios and Epcot\u2019s International Gateway as well as the Riviera and Caribbean Beach Resorts. Bus service is available to all other WDW destinations.<\/p>\n<p><b>Disney Springs Resort Area<\/b> has two Moderate Resorts and two stand-alone DVC properties. The Moderates are the Port Orleans &#8211; Riverside and the Port Orleans &#8211; French Quarter. \u00a0The DVC Resorts are the Saratoga Springs and Old Key West Resorts. These resorts have boat service between each other and Disney Springs, as well as bus service to all WDW destinations.<\/p>\n<p>The Port Orleans Resorts were originally separate resorts named the Dixie Landings Resort and the Port Orleans Resort. In 2001 they were both combined under the Port Orleans umbrella with the hyphenated names and a change to Riverside from Dixie Landings. The convenience of the monorail is amazing.<\/p>\n<p>Walking can be a big timesaver during peak travel times. It&#8217;s a 5-minute walk from the Contemporary and 10 minutes from the Grand Floridian. These resorts are just steps away from Epcot&#8217;s International Gateway, where you can enter Epcot or catch the Skyliner to Hollywood Studios. Walking times are 5-10 minutes. Boat service is also available to the International Gateway.<\/p>\n<p>Being at EPCOT&#8217;s back door gives you access to the huge number of dining opportunities in the park as well as all the options in the resorts. The Skyliner puts the Riviera&#8217;s Restaurants nearby as well as Hollywood Studios&#8217; dining locations.<\/p>\n<p>I love attending the various Festivals at EPCOT; the Beach Club is my go for these times of year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Moderate &#8211;<\/strong> The Caribbean Beach Resort is my Moderate pick with its Skyliner access to EPCOT&#8217;s International Gateway.<\/p>\n<p>Skyliner lines can get long prior to the 2 parks during park opening, so plan accordingly!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Value &#8211;<\/strong> The Values most convenient to EPCOT are Pop Century and Art of Animation, which share a Skyliner Station.<\/p>\n<p>An important consideration here is that you&#8217;ll have to wait in line at the Skyliner station here, then when you get to the Caribbean Beach Station, you&#8217;ll have to wait in another long line for the next leg of your Skyliner journey during peak commute times. Skyliner and Boat service are available to Hollywood Studios and it is possible to walk as well. Walking distance is 1 to 1.25 miles from the resorts to the Studios.<\/p>\n<p>The longer walk also prompts us to add in the Riviera which has Skyliner access to Hollywood Studios, equalizing the convenience. While the Animal Kingdom Lodge is about a mile away, there are no special methods of transportation to the park, like a monorail, boat, or Skyliner. There is also no way to walk. Your only option is to take the Disney Bus System.<\/p>\n<p>For this park, we honestly have no preference on Resort!<\/p>\n<p>The Animal Kingdom Lodge and Villas is closest, and the All-Stars are next closest at 2 to 2.75 miles away. Discounting wait time, these resorts are a 5 to 10 minute drive away, putting them 5 to 10 minutes closer than other resorts by Disney bus.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ambience\"><\/span>Ambience<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Those who plan to spend little time in their room or at their Resort because they will be in the parks as much as possible understandably often opt for the cheaper end of the spectrum. Single travelers or those who just don&#8217;t care much about the amenities do this as well.<\/p>\n<p>But maybe you want the whole experience of enjoying a beautiful room, perhaps with a view, or having more entertainment options at your resort, or better dining options.<\/p>\n<p>Well here I&#8217;ll describe what you can expect at each level of resort and make some recommendations.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Value_Resorts-2\"><\/span>Value Resorts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The Value Resorts are each decorated in a big way based on the theme they represent, with large exterior icons decorating the buildings, themed pools, and bright color schemes throughout.<\/p>\n<p>The Value rooms have a small price (by Disney standards) and are small in size too. Standard size rooms offer 2 double beds, which sleep four (a crib may be requested for children under 3), a small table and two chairs, dresser, TV, and small fridge. The bathroom proper is separated from the single sink vanity area. Set a few suitcases out and it gets \u201cvery cozy\u201d in these rooms. The theme of the resort is straight out of some of Disney\u2019s most famous animated movies: <i>Cars, The Lion King, Finding Nemo, <\/i>and<i> The Little Mermaid<\/i>. Each movie has its own section with big icons from the movies and buildings painted to match.<\/p>\n<p><em>Trivia: The location of the Art of Animation was originally to be the other half of Pop Century, featuring the 00s through the 40s, but the downturn in the travel industry after 9\/11 caused its construction, which had just started, to cease for many years. Pop Century\u2019s opening was delayed for years even though its first half had been finished. Construction on the second half was later restarted as the new Art of Animation Resort. One section of this Pop Century second half had basic building construction finished when construction paused. This is now the Little Mermaid section, featuring 4-person rooms and exterior doors like Pop Century. When construction resumed, the new building was built as 6-person suites with interior halls and room doors.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Moderate_Resorts-2\"><\/span>Moderate Resorts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The Moderate Resorts are each decorated in various facets of an overall resort theme. For example, the Port Orleans Riverside Resort has two different sections, Magnolia Bend and Alligator Bayou. Each is themed differently, both inside and out. Magnolia Bend has large three-story buildings, which look like New Orleans-style mansions with elegant interiors, while Alligator Bayou has a more rustic feel with smaller tin-roofed, wood-sided, two-story buildings with simulated roughhewn interiors.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Disney Moderate rooms are somewhat larger than the Value rooms (on average 315 square feet compared to 260). They offer a small table and two chairs, dresser, TV, and small fridge. The bathroom proper is separated from the double sink vanity area, while the vanity area can be separated from the room with a curtain or door. Even with your suitcases out, you\u2019ll still have room to move around.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>These are mid-level resorts and as you expect have mid-level amenities such as: Table Service dining (except French Quarter), Quick Service food court, pizza delivery, room service at Coronado, an arcade, playground, heated pools, hot tub, a gym at Coronado, Indoor and pool bars, luggage service, in room safe, iron and board, and coffee makers.<\/p>\n<p>These resorts, except for French Quarter, are very large and spread out; they have from 1000 to over 2100 rooms each. The Moderates all have a lake or river where you can rent various watercraft and even fish. Due to this, the clientele tends to be weighted more towards the adult side of the age spectrum, and the atmosphere is a little more laid back.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Club-level rooms with a club lounge and other upgrades are offered at the Coronado.<\/p>\n<p>The theme at the Coronado is Southwestern, with three different themed groups of buildings. Casitas is modeled after a Southwestern urban area, Rancheros, which are themed on Southwest cattle ranches, and Cabanas, which represent Mexican coastal villages.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, a new 15-story tower adjacent to the resort\u2019s old main building was added. These suites, which resemble log cabins on the outside, are situated along winding roads running through the piney woods.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Deluxe_Resorts_DVC_Resorts\"><\/span>Deluxe Resorts &amp; DVC Resorts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Disney Deluxe rooms are larger than the Moderate rooms and fall into 3 size groupings: 400 square feet plus (Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian), 370-380 square feet (BoardWalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club), and 344 square feet (Wilderness and Animal Kingdom Lodges). Just a stone\u2019s throw away from the MK\u2019s Tomorrowland, the look and feel of the Contemporary used to fit right in with the original theme of Tomorrowland.<\/p>\n<p>The look and feel of Tomorrowland has since moved on to a more 50s retro Sci-Fi look, leaving the Contemporary as the sole version of the classic look that it once shared with Tomorrowland.<\/p>\n<p>The Contemporary is divided into two buildings, the huge main A-frame Tower building and the Garden Wing, a two-story outbuilding.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Tower has guest rooms on the west and east sides, all with views of the Seven Seas Lagoon and the Magic Kingdom to the west or Bay Lake to the east. You can spend lots of time doing this if getting to the parks isn&#8217;t a priority.<\/p>\n<p>Both pools on property are great and fun to spend time relaxing around.<\/p>\n<p>This deluxe, along with the Wilderness Lodge, is cheaper than most Deluxes!<\/p>\n<p>Detractors are that this resort is somewhat isolated, a bus ride is required to go anywhere, and most dining options have a heavy African influence, which might not be for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve stayed here 3 time total and have really enjoyed it each time. Twice we used the Disney Armed Forces Salute discount at Jambo House, and once rented DVC points to stay at Kidani.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Disney&#8217;s Beach Club Resort, as I mentioned above. You can dine at the Beach Club, Yacht Club, BoardWalk, Epcot&#8217;s many other options, or even hop on the Skyliner to dine at the Riviera.<\/p>\n<p>Stormalong Bay, the Beach Club&#8217;s shared pool area with the Yacht Club, is awesome! This meandering pool has sandy beaches, sand-bottom walk in sections, a lazy river, volleyball, and more! The food court is much less crazy at breakfast than at the other Moderates and Values due to the smaller size.<\/p>\n<p>The New Orleans architecture is beautiful. And there is a nice pool to relax by.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a single bus stop, alleviating the multiple stops at the bigger Moderates before you can start heading to your destination.<\/p>\n<p>Boat service is offered to Port Orleans &#8211; Riverside, Saratoga Springs, and Disney Springs<\/p>\n<p>A detractor is that this resort is the only Moderate resort without a Table Service Restaurant, but other dining options, especially at Disney Springs, are just a boat ride away.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Value Resorts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All the Values have big, in-your-face decorating!
