This construction and the new 4-lane roadway would permanently cut off pedestrian access between Shades of Green and the rest of Walt Disney World via the Polynesian Village Resort that had existed back to the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>At the time the military community was outraged by the closure and received no feedback to complaints from Disney and little from Shades of Green other than it was a done deal.<\/p>\n<p>See our post from the time: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/shades-of-green\/big-change-at-shades-of-green-transportation\/\">Big Change at Shades of Green \u2013 Transportation<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The pedestrian walkway from Shades of Green to the Polynesian Village Resort had many fans!<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18012\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18012\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18012\" src=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Shades-of-Green-Polynesian-Walk-5.jpg\" alt=\"Walk from Shades of Green to Disney's Polynesian Village Resort\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Shades-of-Green-Polynesian-Walk-5.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Shades-of-Green-Polynesian-Walk-5-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Shades-of-Green-Polynesian-Walk-5-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Shades-of-Green-Polynesian-Walk-5-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18012\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Old Crosswalk on Floridian Way from Shades of Green<\/p><\/div>\n<p>People liked to use the walkway for many reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To dine or Shop at the Polynesian<\/li>\n<li>To catch the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/disney-transportation-overview\/soaring-above-the-magic-the-enchanting-world-of-disneys-monorails\/\">monorail<\/a> to the Magic Kingdom or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/disney-transportation-overview\/walt-disney-worlds-transportation-and-ticket-center\/\">Transportation and Ticket Center<\/a> (and on to EPCOT)\n<ul>\n<li>Thus missing the huge security lines from the parking lots at the TTC (where Shades buses drop their guests)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>To take the boat service to the magic Kingdom<\/li>\n<li>To continue the walk all the way to the Magic Kingdom via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/transportation\/walk-between-disneys-polynesian-village-resort-and-disneys-grand-floridian-resort-and-spa\/\">Poly-Grand Floridian<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/transportation\/walk-between-disneys-grand-floridian-resort-and-spa-and-the-magic-kingdom\/\">GF-MK<\/a> walks<\/li>\n<li>Many with scooters took this route vs waiting on a bus (that can only take 2 scooters at a time)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Board\"><\/span>The Board<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is the new local quasi-government in control of the land upon which Walt Disney World is built.<\/p>\n<p>Florida Governor DeSantis replaced the Disney-aligned Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) and its board with \u00a0the new governing body in February 2023, ending an arrangement that allowed Disney to effectively self-govern its Central Florida property since 1967.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District voted to approve a settlement deal with Disney on March 27th. The settlement ended the two-year litigation battle over control of the formally titled Reedy Creek Improvement District that encompasses the Walt Disney World Resort.<\/p>\n<p>The settlement officially invalidated Disney\u2019s previous shifty attempts to retain governing control over the district via the RCID Board granting Disney powers just prior to stepping down for a period that would last until 21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III of England.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement also ended all pending litigation by Disney in Florida state court.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Central_Florida_Tourism_Oversight_District_News\"><\/span>Central Florida Tourism Oversight District News<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_28201\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28201\" class=\"size-full wp-image-28201\" src=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Disney-Springs-Bridge.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Disney-Springs-Bridge.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Disney-Springs-Bridge-300x195.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-28201\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pedestrian Bridges Disney Built for the Disney Springs Hotels<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The recent agreement with Disney frees the new board to move forward as it chooses in administering the district.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent (December 2023) meeting, the board raised a potential of a project for a pedestrian bridge for the Shades of Green Resort, that one of the board\u2019s hired lawyers says was blocked by Disney. That bridge would make it easier for guests at Shades of Green to access other areas of Disney property as mentioned above.<\/p>\n<p>The board has placed this issue on their short term list to evaluate the district constructing a bridge or providing some way for guests of Shades of Green to cross the road.<\/p>\n<p>This is promising news, though should it come to fruition, will only come to be in the future. Disney&#8217;s construction project outside Shades of Green&#8217;s property is scheduled for completion in 2027.
