Seven Seas Lagoon on one of the large ferryboats, travel between Magic Kingdom and four nearby resorts by water launch, or use Bay Lake boats to move between several of the resorts near the park.<\/p>\n<p>The system is not difficult once you understand it, but it is easy to make the wrong assumption.<\/p>\n<p>Not every resort with a boat dock has direct boat service to Magic Kingdom. Fort Wilderness uses different routes depending on where you are going. The Polynesian and Grand Floridian share a route with a specific stop order. And the boats serving Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, and Fort Wilderness operate differently from the boats going to Magic Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>This guide covers the water transportation around Magic Kingdom, Seven Seas Lagoon, and Bay Lake from a guest-planning perspective: where the boats go, which one to use, and when another form of transportation may make more sense.<\/p>\n<p>Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake are actually connected. A guest leaving the Polynesian for Magic Kingdom is not taking a direct trip.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Wilderness_Lodge_Red_Launch\"><\/span>Wilderness Lodge: Red Launch<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Disney&#8217;s Wilderness Lodge has direct boat service to Magic Kingdom on the Red Launch.<\/p>\n<p>For Wilderness Lodge guests, this is not just a scenic alternative. It is one of the resort&#8217;s primary Magic Kingdom transportation options.<\/p>\n<p>Wilderness Lodge does not have monorail service, and there is no walking path to Magic Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>The boat provides a direct connection between the resort dock and the park.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of the transportation advantages of staying at Wilderness Lodge: instead of transferring somewhere else, you can walk down to the dock and travel directly to Magic Kingdom by water.<\/p>\n<p>Wilderness Lodge also participates in the separate Blue Launch service on Bay Lake, so pay attention to the signs and Cast Members at the dock. Think of it as a dining and resort-hopping route, not a Magic Kingdom route.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Magic-Kingdom-Boat-Service-When-Is-the-Boat-Actually-the-Best-Choice.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42439 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Magic-Kingdom-Boat-Service-When-Is-the-Boat-Actually-the-Best-Choice.jpg\" alt=\"Magic Kingdom water transportation decision guide\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Magic-Kingdom-Boat-Service-When-Is-the-Boat-Actually-the-Best-Choice.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Magic-Kingdom-Boat-Service-When-Is-the-Boat-Actually-the-Best-Choice-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Magic-Kingdom-Boat-Service-When-Is-the-Boat-Actually-the-Best-Choice-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Wheelchairs_ECVs_and_Strollers_on_Disney_Boats\"><\/span>Wheelchairs, ECVs, and Strollers on Disney Boats<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Disney&#8217;s different Magic Kingdom-area watercraft are not all identical, so mobility-device boarding can vary by the vessel being used and conditions at the dock.<\/p>\n<p>The large TTC ferryboats provide the most straightforward boarding environment.<\/p>\n<p>For the smaller water launches, water level, boat type, and operating conditions can affect how wheelchairs and ECVs are handled.<\/p>\n<p>If accessible boarding is important to your transportation plan, ask the Cast Member at the dock before committing to that route.<\/p>\n<p>Disney also requires standard strollers to be folded and stored out of the aisle on its watercraft.<\/p>\n<p>Medical strollers used by guests with disabilities are treated as wheelchairs.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Weather_Can_Change_the_Plan\"><\/span>Weather Can Change the Plan<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Boat transportation is vulnerable to weather, unlike a bus or monorail.<\/p>\n<p>Disney notes that watercraft operating hours and service are subject to water and weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Lightning, high winds, and other operational conditions can temporarily interrupt service.<\/p>\n<p>That is why I would never build an important dining plan with no backup transportation option.<\/p>\n<p>If you are traveling to a reservation at Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, or Contemporary, know what you will do if the boat is temporarily unavailable.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Little_History_Boats_Have_Always_Been_Part_of_Magic_Kingdom_Transportation\"><\/span>A Little History: Boats Have Always Been Part of Magic Kingdom Transportation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Water transportation is not something Disney added later because guests thought boat rides were fun.<\/p>\n<p>Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake were part of Walt Disney World&#8217;s transportation system from the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>When Walt Disney World opened in 1971, guests were already using watercraft to move around the Magic Kingdom resort area.<\/p>\n<p>The waterways also once carried guests to attractions that no longer exist.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_Discovery_Island_Was_a_Destination\"><\/span>When Discovery Island Was a Destination<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>One of the islands you can still see in Bay Lake was once a Walt Disney World attraction.<\/p>\n<p>Treasure Island opened in 1974 and was later renamed Discovery Island.<\/p>\n<p>The 11.5-acre island became a wildlife and nature attraction with exotic birds, animals, a walk-through aviary, and other exhibits.<\/p>\n<p>Guests did not reach Discovery Island by bridge or bus.<\/p>\n<p>They went by boat.<\/p>\n<p>At various times, launches carried guests from Magic Kingdom and the surrounding resorts to the island. Disney also operated sightseeing cruises around Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon that reflected how important the waterways were to the original resort experience.<\/p>\n<p>Discovery Island closed in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>Today, you can still see the island while traveling around Bay Lake, but most guests passing it on a boat probably have no idea that Disney once sold admission tickets to go there.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Magic_Kingdom_Ferryboats\"><\/span>The Magic Kingdom Ferryboats<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The three familiar ferryboats crossing Seven Seas Lagoon today are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Admiral Joe Fowler<\/li>\n<li>General Joe Potter<\/li>\n<li>Richard F. Irvine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Disney renamed the vessels in 1997 to honor three men who played important roles in the development of Walt Disney World.<\/p>\n<p>For decades, those three ferries have carried enormous numbers of guests between the TTC and Magic Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>And for the first time in half a century, another one is joining them.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_Coming_Next_on_the_Water\"><\/span>What&#8217;s Coming Next on the Water<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Two significant additions are coming to the Magic Kingdom-area water transportation system in 2027.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Disneys_Lakeshore_Lodge\"><\/span>Disney&#8217;s Lakeshore Lodge<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Disney&#8217;s Lakeshore Lodge, a Disney Vacation Club Resort, is scheduled to open on Bay Lake on July 1, 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Disney has already confirmed that the resort will have water-taxi service between Lakeshore Lodge and Magic Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>The resort sits in the former River Country area between Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness, adding another destination to the Bay Lake transportation system when it opens.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Meg_Gilbert_Crofton_Ferryboat\"><\/span>The Meg Gilbert Crofton Ferryboat<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Disney is also adding a fourth Magic Kingdom ferryboat in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Meg Gilbert Crofton<\/strong> will be the first new ferryboat added to the Magic Kingdom fleet since 1976.<\/p>\n<p>Disney says the new vessel will be approximately 120 feet long and will have a look, feel, and passenger capacity similar to the three existing ferries.<\/p>\n<p>The name continues Disney&#8217;s tradition of honoring people who played important roles in Walt Disney World&#8217;s history.<\/p>\n<p>Meg Crofton served as President of Walt Disney World Resort beginning in 2006 and, in 2011, became President, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Operations, U.S. and France, while continuing to lead Walt Disney World until 2013.<\/p>\n<p>This one is particularly meaningful to me.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #eef5fa; border-left: 6px solid #2f6f9f; padding: 16px; margin: 20px 0;\"><strong>STEVE SAYS:<\/strong> Seeing Meg Crofton&#8217;s name on a Magic Kingdom ferry will be particularly meaningful to me. When I knew Meg, she was President, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Operations, U.S. and France, and she was a strong supporter of the military community. She helped open doors that led to Military Disney Tips working directly with Walt Disney World Media Relations on military-family issues for several years.
