Some do have special themed rooms, which cost extra, such as Princess or Pirate Rooms. Note the Caribbean Beach Resort has a higher price and demand than the other moderates due to its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/walt-disney-worlds-skyliner\/\">Disney Skyliner<\/a> access and also is not eligible for the Disney Armed Forces Salute discount in 2022. The Coronado Springs has both comparable and much higher rates due to its wide variety of room locations and types.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shades of Green<\/strong> includes amenities such as full-service restaurants, quick-service dining options, limited room service, luggage service, swimming pools, and hot tub, an Army-Air Force Exchange Store, discounted ticket sales, and bus transportation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is a comparison between the lowest cost room at each resort, a standard view at the Port Orleans &#8211; Riverside and a Standard Room at Shades.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Port Orleans &#8211; Riverside&#8217;s room in this review is representative of all the other Disney Moderate resorts.<\/p>\n<p>Disney\u2019s Moderates offer upgraded rooms for from $25 to $115 per night (not including suites or concierge). They are &#8220;up to&#8221; 35%, meaning that depending on your dates you might receive a lower discount amount; the only way to know what your price will be is to call (or have your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/ears-of-experience\/\">Travel Agent<\/a> do it for you).<\/p>\n<p>For this comparison I&#8217;ll be using the maximum 35% Disney Armed Forces Salute discount. Disney adds various sales and resort taxes to their room rates, at Port Orleans &#8211; Riverside the rate is 12.5%.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll show the prices for Standard Rooms at both resorts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shades of Green &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Shades of Green has 3 price categories for the standard room based on your rank\/status:<\/p>\n<p>1 October 2024 &#8211; 30 September 2025:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Category 1 &#8211; $179.00 per night<\/li>\n<li>Category 3 &#8211; $229.00 per night<\/li>\n<li>Category 3 &#8211; $239.00 per night<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1 October 2025 &#8211; 30 September 2026:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Category 1 &#8211; $184.00 per night<\/li>\n<li>Category 3 &#8211; $237.00 per night<\/li>\n<li>Category 3 &#8211; $257.00 per night<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Category #1\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; E-1 thru E-6 and Cadets<\/p>\n<p><strong>Category #2<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; E-7 thru E-9, O-1 thru O-3, WO-1 to CW-3, Widows, Medal of Honor Recipients, 100% Disabled Veterans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Category #3<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; O-4 thru O-10, CW-4, CW-5, Active and Retired DoD Civilians.<\/p>\n<p>There is no tax added to these charges. While Shades of Green offers five-person occupancy per room.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Shades of Green &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>At 514 square feet the Shades of Green room is the winner on size, hands down. This includes a large bedroom with 2 queen beds, a single sleeper sofa, entry hall, seating area with a small table and 2 chairs, a closet, and large vanity area separate from the shower\/toilet area. All Shades rooms have an inside hall, room entrance and a balcony\/patio with a table and chairs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Port Orleans &#8211; Riverside Resort\u00a0&#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0The Port Orleans &#8211; Riverside room measured in at 314 square feet with a bedroom with vanity, which contains the clothes hanging area and shelf. Riverside<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Room_%E2%80%93_Amenities\"><\/span>Room &#8211;\u00a0Amenities<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Amenities at both resorts were very similar.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each has complimentary wifi (Shades of Green&#8217;s is not very strong or dependable in the guest rooms), flat screen TV\u2019s, mini fridge, coffee maker that uses <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/46K6aL0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coffee pods<\/a>, a safe, iron and ironing board, toiletries, hair dryer, and luggage rack.<\/p>\n<p>Both resorts had receptacles for recycling.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Room_%E2%80%93_Decor\"><\/span>Room &#8211;\u00a0Decor<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The biggest difference between staying at Shades of Green and a Disney resort is themeing. Shades is decorated like any civilian hotel and could be placed anywhere, worldwide and fit in.<\/p>\n<p>At the Disney resorts, you definitely know that you are at Disney. Some of their decorating is subdued, and some definitely isn\u2019t depending on which resort you are staying in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shades of Green &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0Many worry that staying at Shades of Green will be like staying in billeting on base, but it definitely is not, the rooms are top notch. The rooms are decorated in greens (to tie into the resort name) with pictures of scenery and plants. The furniture is all good quality. It should be noted that, before the Army MWR purchased the resort from WDW, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/shades-of-green\/the-history-of-the-shades-of-green-resort-at-walt-disney-world\/\">it was a deluxe Disney resort<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Port Orleans &#8211; Riverside &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0Port Orleans &#8211; Riverside<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0standard room&#8217;s are decorated in several themes based on location, either southern mansion or bayou cabin. At the Garden Gallery\u00a0much of the buffet food comes off the Sysco truck pre made and is served as is. The food quality and service at Manginos is sub-par to what you&#8217;ll find at a Disney table service restaurant. And the food at Evergreens is microwaved and only recommended if there is no other option.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Garden Gallery can be very busy in the mornings<\/strong> when everyone is trying to get going to the theme parks at the same time. MDT recommends a coffee and pastry at the Java Caf\u00e9 or the Express Caf\u00e9 to have while waiting on the theme park bus instead. Or do the same on arrival at one of the theme parks.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll find no food court here as you will at a Disney Moderate! There isn&#8217;t the volume of people to make that necessary.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarydisneytips.com\/blog\/shades-of-green\/dining-options-at-shades-of-green-disney-worlds-military-resort\/\">More on Shades of Green Dining<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Port Orleans &#8211; Riverside &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There are several dining options at Port Orleans &#8211; Riverside, Boatwright&#8217;s Dining Hall (Table Service), Riverside Mill (Food Court), and the River Roost Lounge are all near the main building lobby, while the Muddy Rivers Bar is the pool bar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Disney Resort food courts are set up with several stations at which you can a get a wide variety of menu items. In the morning they offer standard\u00a0breakfast fare and then switch over to their rest of the day menus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The food courts can be loud and hectic in the mornings, when everyone is trying to get going to the theme parks at the same time. Get there by 7am for a less hectic experience. And the Magnolia Pool which is the quiet pool featuring zero entry, walk in access and a hot tub. Shades of Green has an arcade. There are two lighted tennis courts and the resorts sits in the middle of two of Disney&#8217;s golf courses. The clubhouse shares a parking lot with Shades of Green.
