…Pixar Pier! That’s right folks, the Disney California Adventure Park (DCA) located in Anaheim, California will be going through an extensive renovation this year.
This transformation will take place in the Paradise Pier section of the park and bring in four Pixar-themed “neighborhoods” which will feature new attractions, rides, shops, and games!
Featuring new experiences from Pixar favorites including The Incredibles, Inside Out, Toy Story, and more!
Pixar Pier is scheduled to open in April 2018 along the southern shore of Paradise Bay, and will replace Paradise Pier.
The first themed neighborhood will focus on The Incredibles in celebration of the new sequel to be released June 15, 2018. California Screamin’ will permanently close on January 8, 2018, to make way for the transition to Incredicoaster. The original track of this coaster will not change; only appearance updates will be made.
The Incredicoaster will feature a mid-century modern loading dock inspired by the Parr family home as seen in the upcoming movie The Incredibles 2. Other updates will include new character moments, a new look for the coaster itself, and updated ride vehicles. This ride will also include a brand new incredible soundtrack!
Toy Story Midway Mania! will be the anchor of the second themed neighborhood – a section of DCA dedicated solely to the beloved Toy Story series. King Triton’s Carousel will be updated to include your favorite Toy Story characters.
An Inside Out neighborhood will occupy the west side of Paradise Bay and will include a new family-friendly attraction that is scheduled to open at a later date. This new ride will not be opening with the rest of Pixar Pier.
The fourth themed neighborhood will be a kind of catchall for the rest of your favorite Pixar characters. Each of the 24 gondolas on Mickey’s Fun Wheel will feature a different Pixar star. The iconic Mickey Mouse face will continue to smile happily over Paradise Bay.
The Games of the Boardwalk will close on January 8, 2018, to make way for new games, each featuring a different Pixar character. There is no word yet on whether the games themselves will change, or whether they will simply be getting an appearance update. These new games will feature characters and experiences from A Bug’s Life, WALL-E, and the Pixar short film, La Luna.
Ariel’s Grotto and the Cove Bar are also scheduled to close on January 8, 2018, to be transformed into a new bar and grill with fantastic views of Paradise Bay and the new Pixar Pier. There is no word yet on what Pixar characters will be featured here if any. The Cove Bar will open again briefly in April before closing again for its permanent transformation.
The remaining area of the boardwalk that currently features the Paradise Gardens, Silly Symphony Swings, Jumpin’ Jellyfish, Goofy’s Sky School, Golden Zephyr, and The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure will remain largely unchanged, but will be given a new name: Paradise Park.
Pixar Pier is scheduled to open during the first ever Pixar Fest which will begin on April 13th, 2018.
This celebration will debut a new fireworks spectacular, Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular in the Disneyland Park. During this fantastic show, guests will get to see Buzz Lightyear take flight over the Sleeping Beauty Castle for the first time ever!
The festival will also feature the return of the Pixar Play Parade and Paint the Night Parade; however, these parades will be switching parks. The Pixar Play Parade will premier in the Disneyland Park and feature new characters including the iconic Pixar Ball & Lamp and favorites from Up and Inside Out. The Paint the Night Parade will have a new home inside DCA for the duration of Pixar Fest.
Also in DCA during Pixar Fest: the Sunset Showcase Theater in Hollywood Land will feature favorite Disney/Pixar shorts including For the Birds and Lava throughout most of the celebration.
