Shades of Green, the Military Only Resort on Walt Disney World property sets their room rates by pay-grade.
You’ll find Shades of Green has reasonable room rates when compared to many of the Disney World Resorts and other hotels in the local area. Rates are based upon your pay grade or status, with junior members paying much less to help them afford a Disney vacation.
Shades of Green’s rates are constant all year long, except for various specials, which they run from time to time.
The Disney resorts on the other hand have numerous price seasons throughout the year as well as having their prices fluctuate based on the day of the week (Friday and Saturday nights are often more expensive). The price for a specific Disney resort room can vary anywhere from 1.4 to over 2 times the cheapest price for that room depending on the time of year.

All rooms include refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and in-room safe. Due to fire codes, any additional cooking appliances (such as microwaves) are not allowed in guest rooms.

Update October 2020: Shades of Green has posted their fiscal year 2022 rates and for the second year in a row it is a Very Big Increase (by Shades of Green historical standards). All room types were increased a minimum of $15. This and last year’s are the biggest increases ever for Shades of Green.
The suite prices have increased even more in recent years. They used to increase at the same rate as the standard and Pool View rooms, but recently have had huge increases. Over the last 2 years suites have increased from $45 to $100 per night!
These comes on top of 2 parking rate increases in 2019, which disproportionately shifted a larger portion of the resort’s profits to those who drive.

Parking Fees – From 2002 to 2004 Shades of Green closed for a total remodel and the addition of a new wing plus a parking garage which was built where one of the 2 original parking lots was located. From the time it opened in 2004 until 2006, parking was free. Then in 2006 Shades of Green began charging guests to park in the parking structure. Price increases were minor and rare at first, but in recent years increases have become more frequent. Especially for a structure that was paid for at least a decade ago. MDT’s position is that it is unconscionable to charge those who drive extra in order to make budget, rather than adding a dollar or two to all rooms rates so that everyone shares the cost!
- June 2022 – $17
- November 2021 – $15

James Crawford says
I am retired E-7 and would like information on room rates for summer 2020.
Hi James, please see: https://www.militarydisneytips.com/blog/ears-of-experience/
Fred Barth says
I work for general dynamics and have a did clearance can I stay there
No sir, sorry.
A clearance has nothing to do with eligibility.
Jan E Holbrook says
Are taxes and fees in addition to the prices you posted?
There are no taxes or fees at Shades of Green. Except parking of $13 per day if you drive there.
Raven Fowler says
In your experience do more dates open up as you get closer? I’m look at booking for September and the month is almost completely unavailable but all of August is free. I’ve stay before and did not have any trouble finding availability in 2019.
Shades of Green is hosting a big event in September which is blocking lots of rooms.
They can work you a discounted rate at the Disney Springs Hotels if they are full on your dates. They call this an overflow rate.
Linda Smith says
I am retired with 100 percent service connected disability. What is available for me and my family. During 2022-2023. Can I or am I eligible for 2 rooms/suites?
Are you 100% DAVPRM or DAVTMP?
100% Permanent are eligible for all Disney discounts that same as current or retired military. You would have a military ID that has DAVPRM on it.
If you are Temporary then see:
Mark and Anita Neal says
Just to be sure, I am a Honorable discharged Navy veteran do I qualify to stay there with my family and what proof do you need.
Hi there Mark,
Without any other qualifiers, just serving, you are qualified to stay at Shades of Green in January and September.
There are other qualifiers that you might have, such as a service connected disability, see:
Pat Johnson says
Do you accept Florida licenses with Veteran written on it as proof. I had to show my DD214 to the DMV in order to prove I am a veteran.
You are a little confused. This is an informational website run by a military retiree.
But, to answer your question, it depends.
If you fall under the John McCain Veteran’s Equal Access Act they will accept:
• DoD common access card
• Real ID compliant driver’s license
• Real ID compliant non-driver’s license
• Enhanced driver’s license
• US passport or passport card
• Foreign passport bearing an unexpired immigrant or non-immigrant visa or entry stamp
• Federal personal identity verification card
• Transportation Worker Identification card
If you do not and are just staying in Sept or Jan as a Veteran, only a DD-214 is accepted, per their website.
