Pueblo Esperanza: Disney’s New Tropical Americas Land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Pueblo Esperanza is an all-new themed land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, transforming the former DinoLand U.S.A. area into a richly immersive region inspired by the cultures, landscapes, and wildlife of the Tropical Americas. Drawing influence from Central America and northern South America, this land blends Disney storytelling with the park’s core mission of conservation, culture, and adventure.
What Is Pueblo Esperanza?
Pueblo Esperanza translates roughly to “Village of Hope,” and Disney Imagineering is designing the land to feel like a real, living community with a long and layered history. Much like Harambe in Africa or Anandapur in Asia, Pueblo Esperanza is meant to feel authentic, weathered, and full of stories—rather than like a traditional “ride land.”
Imagineers have researched some of the most biodiverse regions on Earth, focusing on areas just north and south of the equator in the Western Hemisphere. The result is a lush environment filled with water features, hand-crafted architecture, and gathering spaces that feel organic and lived-in.
Atmosphere & Land Design
At the heart of Pueblo Esperanza will be a large central fountain where villagers gather to tell stories and celebrate their community. The land is designed to be expansive and walkable, with shaded pathways, layered sightlines, and architectural details that reward guests who slow down and explore.
One of the centerpiece attractions will be a hand-carved carousel created by a local woodcarver, featuring animals inspired by Disney stories. This attraction is expected to be especially popular with younger families and adds a classic Disney touch to the land’s cultural storytelling.
Signature Attractions in Pueblo Esperanza
Pueblo Esperanza will debut with two major attractions, both rooted in exploration, storytelling, and connection to the natural world.
Indiana Jones Adventure – In this all-new story, Indiana Jones has uncovered a perfectly preserved Maya temple deep in the Tropical Americas. Rumors of a mythical creature lurking within draw Indy—and guests—into an intense, action-filled expedition. This attraction will replace DINOSAUR and will use similar ride vehicles, though the storyline will be entirely new.
Encanto Attraction – The first-ever Encanto-themed ride-through attraction will invite guests inside the magical Casita of the Madrigal family. The story centers on Antonio’s gift—his ability to communicate with animals—as his room transforms into a lush rainforest. Expect a whimsical, family-friendly experience filled with surprises and familiar characters.
Dining in Pueblo Esperanza
A massive hacienda-style quick-service restaurant will anchor the land’s dining options, making it one of the largest counter-service locations at Walt Disney World. While menus have not yet been announced, Disney has emphasized that the restaurant will feel integral to the village rather than like a traditional theme park eatery.
Additional food and beverage locations are expected to be woven naturally into the land, supporting its role as a functioning village rather than a collection of standalone venues.
Where Pueblo Esperanza Fits in Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Pueblo Esperanza occupies the former DinoLand U.S.A. footprint and sits between Discovery Island and Asia when moving clockwise around the park.
Opening Timeline
Disney has confirmed that construction on Pueblo Esperanza began in 2025, with a phased opening planned. The full land is currently expected to debut in 2027, with individual elements potentially coming online at different times.
Wrap-Up
Pueblo Esperanza represents a major evolution for Disney’s Animal Kingdom, replacing DinoLand U.S.A. with a land that feels more aligned with the park’s original vision. By combining immersive worldbuilding, meaningful cultural inspiration, and beloved storytelling from Encanto and Indiana Jones, this new Tropical Americas land has the potential to become one of the park’s most compelling areas.
As construction progresses and Disney releases additional details, this page will continue to be updated with confirmed information, attraction specifics, dining details, and opening timelines.
