The Magic Kingdom’s Mad Tea Party

 One of the most iconic Disney rides is of course the Mad Tea Party.

📍 Magic Kingdom | Fantasyland

These spinning cups have made their way into almost every Disney commercial for the last 50 years, making them the face of Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom.

The Mad Tea Party, or simply “The Teacups” as they are known, is a family-friendly ride, which means that there is no height requirement. However, note that these spinning cups of doom have earned their reputation for being one of the most nauseating rides in the Disney parks for a reason! Don’t let the sweet, playful music fool you; these cups can spin fast!

The Ride

As we mentioned, these innocent-looking teacups can spin fast, but note that you have a lot of control in this ride. The cups slowly rotate through and around the teapot in the middle of the attraction, but the large disk located in each tea cup is what controls the spinning of the actual cup.

If you are worried about getting nauseous or really don’t like spinning, you can just sit back and relax and enjoy the teacup… However, when you ride with friends or family, make sure you trust your passengers. Sure, you can control the teacup and whether or not spin like crazy, but you can’t control the other passengers in the cup from going to town on that disk!

Overall, the Mad Tea Party is a really fun interactive family ride. Everyone from Grandpa down to the baby can find something to enjoy.

The Teacup

While this is a family-friendly attraction, there could be some complications for those with physical handicaps. Guests in wheelchairs or ECVs must switch out before boarding, and the cup has a bit of a lip/ledge to step over before getting in. It is also quite a narrow and awkward opening that those with coordination issues may struggle with.

The Teacup vehicle is very generously sized to accommodate groups and families. A family of 4 should have no problem going together in one teacup. That’s how you make core memories.

The Queue

Since the Mad Tea Party attraction is outdoors, of course, the queue is as well, but never fear! The whole area is covered by a large awning and there is a lot of natural shade from area shrubs and trees. On a hot day, the area in and around the Mad Tea Party is a great place to take a break and eat a snack.

The queue line is a tight corral, so once again, there can be some difficulties for those with mobility issues. Should you have any concerns, just speak to a Cast Member and they would be glad to help you.

Mad Tea Party may be an iconic ride, but it is not one that tends to have a very long wait time. Seeing a wait time exceeding 35 minutes is a sign that maybe you should stay away from Fantasyland that day, or Magic Kingdom altogether. The busiest time of day for this attraction is the 10:00 – 2:00 time frame where Fantasyland as a whole tends to be more busy. The Mad Tea Party is a Lightning Lane Multi Pass attraction, but not usually worth reserving with the service due to the low wait times.

Fun Fact: If you want a faster spin, have 3 people or less in the teacup!

Height Requirement

There is no height requirement for Mad Tea Party, making it a whimsical ride for guests of all ages!

Rider Swap

Rider Swap is not available for this attraction. Its fun, spinning teacups are perfect for families to enjoy together. However, many may not want to take part in this spinning, dizzying ride and there is lots of seating on the low brick walls under the shady trees surrounding the ride.

Accessibility

Guests using wheelchairs or ECVs must transfer to the ride vehicle to experience Mad Tea Party. The queue is accessible, and Cast Members are available to assist with boarding if needed.
