The Magic Kingdom Layout
Fantasyland is the fourth land to the left (moving clockwise) off of the hub (it’s straight ahead) at the end of Main Street U.S.A. (Main Street runs north/south).
Fantasyland is connected to:
- Main Street U.S.A. via a the castle
- Liberty Square at its west end and via a path (Sleepy Hollow to the rear of the castle)
- Tomorrowland at its east end and via 2 paths (Cosmic Rays to the rear of the castle & TRON Lightcycle / Run to Fantasyland’s Storybook Circus area)
Fantasyland underwent a huge expansion between 2010 and 2014, greatly expanding the area and number of attractions.
After the expansion the original land now has 3 subsections:
- Fantasyland – A portion of the former land that stretches from the Liberty Square/Main Street U.S.A. entrances to just east of the Carrousel. The boundary on the east is the diagonal line formed by the large walls with arches and parapets that stretches from Pinocchio’s Village Haus to Storybook Treats.
- Fantasyland Forest – outside the walls lies the forest, which extends around both sides of the mountain that houses the Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train.
- Storybook Circus – Begins where the 2 paths through Fantasyland Forest come together on the far side of Mine Train.
The History of Fantasyland and Mickey’s Birthdayland
In June of 1988 the Magic Kingdom opened a new land, Mickey’s Birthdayland to commemorate Mickey’s 60th birthday. This land was initially planned to be temporary (for just the birthday celebration period), with no real permanent buildings. There were 3 large structures with sidewalls and vinyl tent roofs that housed meet and greets, a live show, and merch shop.
The land was run as an extension of Tomorrowland as far as food and merchandise departments were concerned.
Attractions Included:
- Mickey’s House – Walkthrough
- Minnie’s House – Walkthrough
- Donald’s Boat – Splash Area
- Grandmas Duck Farm – A petting farm with live animals including Minnie Moo (a black and white cow with a natural black Mickey Head on her side)
The new Mickey’s Birthdayland Train Station was built, and the Walt Disney World Railroad became Mickey’s Birthday Express, with a music track onboard and huge wrapped presents along the train track leading to the land.
The only food service in the land was a cart that sold birthday cupcakes (chocolate and vanilla, that Steve ordered as part of his job at WDW).
Name Changes
Having decided not to close the temporary land, the name of the land was changed to Mickey’s Starland in May 1990. In late 1995 the name was changed to Mickey’s Toyland, which was then closed in early 1996 for an extensive refurbishment. Then on October 1, 1996, it reopened as Mickey’s Toontown Fair for the park’s 25th anniversary.
There were many changes over the years, with some attractions closing and new ones opening. The biggest addition was the Barnstormer at Goofy’s Wiseacre Farm.
The land existed under this incarnation until it closed in February 2011 to be swooped up into the “New Fantasyland” expansion. Its current incarnation is the Storybook Circus section of Fantasyland.
Storybook Circus
Storybook Circus is a subsection of Fantasyland. It is themed as if it was a traveling circus stopped along a railroad route just outside of the Fantasyland Forest.
The land’s main attractions include:
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant
- The Barnstormer
- Casey Jr. Splash ‘n’ Soak Station
- Pete’s Silly Sideshow
- Walt Disney World Railroad
Fantasyland Forest
Fantasyland Forest is another subsection of Fantasyland.
The subsection’s main attractions include:
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
- Mad Tea Party

- Enchanted Tales with Belle
- Ariel’s Grotto
Dining options in this subsection are:
