Disney offers what they call Virtual Queues for specific time frames for their newest very high-demand attractions.
Virtual Queues are complementary.
Attractions that offer virtual queues do not typically offer standby (that is walk up) entrance. You must have a reservation, either a Virtual Queue Boarding Group or Lightning Lane Single Pass.
Virtual Queues must be reserved at specific times of the day in order to get one. A Virtual Queue is a sequentially numbered, one-hour block of time (or Boarding Group) in which you may go to the attraction in question and experience it. You will be notified by the My Disney Experience app when your Boarding Group is called. You can also track the numerical progress of the groups throughout the day in the app.
On each day of your visit, you may have the opportunity to join the virtual queue at daily distribution times, which are subject to change or cancellation as availability allows. Distribution schedules will be available in the My Disney Experience app but are typically 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Virtual queue Boarding Groups for the day are typically all gone by 7:01 a.m. More are released at 1 p.m. based on how the day has gone so far with using up the initial reservations.
Valid theme park admission is required to reserve a Boarding Group and all military tickets also require a theme park reservation.
To try to secure a Virtual Queue Boarding Group in the morning round, someone in your party needs to be awake prior to 7 a.m. and use the app to try to secure a Group at exactly 7! You can do this from anywhere, you do not need to be in the park. If you don’t get one then you can try again at 1 p.m. You must be in the park in question to do so at 1.
Once your attraction virtual queue is redeemed, you can try to join another attraction virtual queue, if available.
After Hours Party events may offer queues during their operating hours.
NOTE: Disneyland’s times vary from what is stated above (see below).
Virtual Queues Are Not a Cut-the-Line Service
Because Virtual Queues are Free, they are highly popular and highly used. That’s why all Boarding Groups are all taken within seconds of opening for reservations at 7.
You will still experience lines and wait times using Virtual Queues, the Boarding Group is just a time to get in line not a cut-the-line service! For example on my last trip from the time I got in line with my Virtual Queue Boarding Group for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind till the time I rode was one hour!
However, with the paid Lightning Lane Single Pass service you will cut the Virtual Queue or standby line and experience shorter waits!
NOTE: you can have a Virtual Queue Boarding Group and a Lightning Lane Single Pass for the same attraction!

Haunted Mansion Holiday – Operated like Disney World above, but the times are 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. (noon).
Other Disney Line Bypass Products
Besides Virtual Queues, Disney offers 2 paid line bypass products, Lightning Lane Single Pass and Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
Lightning Lane Single Pass allows you to pay to reserve a ride time for the most popular attraction in each Disney theme park.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows you to pay to have a full day of line bypass ability for most theme park attractions.
Multi Pass prices vary for each product vary by both park and day. Single Pass prices vary by attraction and day.
