The wait is over! After years of building and all of the roadblocks to opening, TRON Lightcycle / Run has finally opened in the Magic Kingdom!

Tron Lightcycle / Run is the newest addition to Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom, and it is already making a huge impression on visitors. The ride is based on the futuristic world of Tron, a popular science fiction movie released in 1982 and its 2010 sequel. This new attraction is located in Tomorrowland and has become a must-see for fans of the movies, as well as thrill-seekers looking for a unique and exciting ride.

What is TRON Lightcycle / Run

The ride itself is a roller coaster-style experience, featuring twists, turns, and high speeds. The track is filled with neon lights that illuminate the ride, adding to the overall experience. The ride also features a unique launch system that propels riders forward at high speeds, making the experience even more thrilling.

Ride Vehicles on TRON Lightcycle / Run

One of the most impressive features of the Tron Lightcycle / Run is its ride vehicles, which are modeled after the lightcycles from the movies. These vehicles are designed to look like sleek and futuristic motorcycles, with riders sitting in a single-file line. The ride vehicle’s unique design adds an extra level of immersion, as it makes riders feel like they are truly part of the Tron universe.

Beware that these unique ride vehicles are very tight and might be very uncomfortable for some guests, especially those with unique mobility issues.

Be sure to use the test seat on the mockup outside before entering the queue to see if you will be comfortable enough to ride.

The ride vehicles have a very small storage compartment suitable for cell phones and other small items. Disney requires that you store larger items like backpacks, bags, hats, etc. in the free lockers provided in the queue.

TRON Lightcycle / Run Lockers

Before boarding TRON Lightcycle / Run, all loose items must be stored in the attraction’s free lockers. Disney built the locker system directly into the queue, and once you know how it works, it’s very simple.

The lockers are located just before the loading area and are two-sided. You place your items in before the ride and retrieve them from the opposite side after you exit. Look for any locker with a glowing light, which means it’s available.

To open a locker, tap your MagicBand or physical park ticket card against the scanner. The door will unlock automatically. Place your items inside and close the door. It locks on its own, and you’ll use the same band or card to reopen it after the ride.

One important thing to know: MagicMobile on your phone or Apple Watch does not work with the lockers. If you entered the park using MagicMobile only, simply ask a Cast Member for a temporary locker card. They usually have plenty available, and the process only takes a few seconds. After your ride, you can drop the temporary card into the return bin.

The lockers are large enough for most standard backpacks and small bags, but oversized items may not fit. If needed, Cast Members can direct you to a nearby storage area for larger items. This area is not locked or monitored, but it is the only option for oversized belongings.

If you forget your locker number after the ride, don’t worry. Disney added touchscreens on the exit side where you can tap your MagicBand or ticket card to quickly pull up your locker number.

Height Requirement for TRON Lightcycle / Run

One of the most important factors to consider when planning a visit to the Tron Lightcycle / Run is the height requirement. To ride, guests must be at least 48 inches tall. This height requirement ensures that riders are safe and able to handle the high speeds and intensity of the ride.

Launch Area

TRON Lightcycle / Run is one of only 2 rides in Walt Disney World that have this high of a height requirement. The other attraction is Rock n Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Rider Swap

Rider Swap is available for TRON Lightcycle / Run. Just speak to a Cast Member at the entrance, and they’ll help set it up so everyone in your party who meets the height requirement can experience this exhilarating high-speed journey through the Grid.

Accessibility

Guests using wheelchairs or ECVs must transfer to the ride vehicle to experience TRON Lightcycle / Run. Those with mobility issues will ride in special cars at the rear of some trains, seated normally in an upright position. Only some of the trains have these special cars. The queue is accessible, and Cast Members are available to assist with boarding as needed.

Ride Experience

Despite the high speeds and twists and turns, the Tron Lightcycle / Run is still accessible to many visitors. The ride is not overly intense or scary, making it a great choice for families with older children or adults looking for a fun and exciting experience.

How to Ride TRON Lightcycle / Run

While the ride is new and the demand is high Disney will utilize the Virtual Queue system. During this time, there will be no standby line.

There are 2 ways to ride TRON Lightcycle / Run, using the Virtual Queue and getting a Virtual Boarding Group or purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane.

How to Get a Virtual Boarding Group

Virtual Boarding Groups open promptly at 7:00 a.m. and will be completely gone in seconds. This the free method to ride, but obviously isn’t guaranteed. A second chance to grab a virtual queue opens at 1:00 p.m.

Be sure that you have your Magic Kingdom park reservation already set up and at 7:00 open your app and press the “Join Virtual Queue” button. Good luck!

Individual Lightning Lane Single Pass

If it is really important that you ride TRON Lightcycle / Run then you should consider budgeting for is a Lightning Lane Single Pass. This is the pay-per-single-ride offering where you can pay to skip the line at Walt Disney World’s most popular attractions.

Overall, the Tron Lightcycle / Run is an exciting and innovative addition to the Magic Kingdom. With its unique ride vehicles, impressive lighting, and thrilling track, this ride is a must-see for fans of Tron and anyone looking for a fun and exciting experience. Visitors should be sure to check the height requirements before planning their visit, and be prepared for a ride that is sure to get their adrenaline pumping.
