Travel Back in Time to a Drive-In Theater Experience at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant

Location
📍Hollywood Studios | Commissary Lane
The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant is uniquely situated in the heart of Commissary Lane where it meets Grand Avenue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This one-of-a-kind dining experience is just steps away from the Muppet*Vision 3D and the ABC Commissary, nestled between some of the park’s most popular attractions. As you approach, you’re greeted by a classic 1950s-style marquee, setting the stage for a nostalgic trip back to the heyday of drive-in theaters. The location adds to the allure, offering a cool retreat from the Florida sun and a perfect spot to relax after exploring the park.
Ambiance
The ambiance at Sci-Fi Dine-In is nothing short of magical. As you step inside, you’re transported to a Hollywood Set designed to look like an outdoor drive-in theater under a starry night sky.
Guests dine in classic 1950s-style cars, complete with headlights and speakers, all facing a massive screen playing clips of vintage sci-fi movies and quirky commercials.
The atmosphere is both immersive and fun, making it a hit with families and movie buffs alike. The dim lighting, twinkling stars, and the hum of movie dialogue create an intimate and nostalgic experience that makes you feel like you’re part of a retro film set.
Seating
Guests have several options for seating and you can state your preference when checking in. But it will depend on how busy they are as to whether they can accommodate you.
The majority of seating is in the simulated autos lined up to view the movie screen. These “cars” have 2 or 3 bench seats and can seat up to 9 people, 3 in each row if some passengers are small. Typically 2 passengers are seated per row. Multiple parties will be seated together by row (you will not be in the same row with someone from another party).
Larger parties have long tables set in an open area between a front and rear section of a car.
And finally if you have a smaller party and do not want to sit in one of the cars, you can ask to snag one of the picnic tables in the back by the Snack Bar.
Menu
Sci-Fi Dine-In offers a menu filled with American comfort food that’s as timeless as the drive-in experience itself. From classic burgers and fries to BBQ ribs and chicken, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The restaurant is known for its thick, creamy milkshakes, which are a must-try, especially the Oreo Cookie Shake, which has gained a bit of a cult following online.
For dessert, options like the Hot Fudge Sundae and Sci-Fi Specialty Donuts provide the perfect sweet ending to your meal. The menu also includes a selection of beers, wines, and specialty cocktails, so adults can kick back and enjoy a drink while they watch the screen.
Note, the shelf tables in the cars are pretty dim and it can be hard to see your food, or get photos of it…
Reservations
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater is one of the most popular Table Service dining experiences at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and advance dining reservations are highly recommended. Due to its unique setting and nostalgic appeal, tables (or cars!) fill up quickly, especially during peak times and holidays. If this retro experience is on your to-do list, be sure to book as early as possible. While walk-ins may sometimes be accommodated, the odds are slim, so planning ahead is your best bet for securing a spot.
Wrap-Up
Dining at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant is more than just a meal; it’s an immersive experience that takes you back in time to the golden age of drive-in movies.
