It’s hard enough to get a date night when you have kids! But if you’re a military family, then it can feel darn near impossible!
Between deployments, TDYs, training schedules and schools, it’s hard to find time for each other, and more than likely, you have moved to fill the needs of the military and no longer have family support. What I would give to have Grandma down the road to take the kids so my soldier and I could get a nice date night. But… That’s just not in the cards.
Did any of that feel relatable? Well, what if I told you you could have a date night, or even a full date day, while in Walt Disney World?!
Kids Nite Out
Seriously! Kids Nite Out is an in-room babysitting service in Orlando that can accommodate any schedule. Basically, you reserve a date and a time for the sitter to be there, along with information about your kids, and you and your spouse can just… go!
I know exactly what you’re thinking… How can you trust perfect strangers? Kids Nite Out was founded in 1998 and has a glowing reputation. They have strict requirements on all of their sitters and well-established clientele. In fact, Kids Nite Out is actually endorsed by both Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Orlando!
Both resorts used to have their own drop off kids club so parents could get away, but they started veering away from that system and contracting it out to Kids Nite Out. These days neither resort has reopened their kids clubs and instead recommends you try out the service in your own hotel room or timeshare.
Our Experience
We have children in almost every age bracket, from teenager down to toddler, and we have been so happy with our experience! We were able to sign a waiver excusing the teenager from being listed as a child that had to be cared for, so we didn’t have to pay for him, and the sitter came ready and prepared to play with the younger two!
We have personally used Kids Nite Out 4 separate times and have nothing but great things to say about their sitters. They bring toys, crafts, and sticker books. They have taken our children on picnics, hours of play time, or just calm cartoons and snuggles.
Pricing
Kids Nite Out starts at $30 per hour for 1 child, and increases by $3 per hour for each additional child. Stay with me here! I know that price tag hurts, but consider this…
You and your husband can spend a whole day together from 12:00 – 10:00, go to the parks and ride attractions regardless of their height requirements, enjoy a meal together without complaints, and even stay up late for the fireworks without fear of a meltdown, all for around $300.
For a regular babysitter, that’s insane, but if you’re like most military families that average 1 date night per year, then this is totally worth it. Not just for your sanity and fun, but for your marriage!
Date Day Ideas!
When you’re not used to freedom you can feel a little overwhelmed with “what do I do now”?? It’s like who were we before kids? We tend to go to Disney as part of our post-deployment and pre-deployment time, so we can share quality time in a happy place. Here’s what we have done on our getaway days in the past!
Date 1: My soldier and I went to EPCOT and leisurely ate and drank around the Flower and Garden festival. It was so much fun, not to mention delicious. Food is a great way to reconnect, too, because you can learn a lot about their tastes or how adventurous they are. My husband actually ate escargot and you couldn’t pay me to eat bugs.
Date 2: Sometimes a simple date night of dinner and a stroll is just enough to charge your batteries. We took a nice evening down at Disney Springs. Don’t feel compelled to come back too early! You have to have a minimum 4 hours for the service. Twist my arm, I guess I’ll have to have another cocktail at Jock Lindsey’s.
Date 3: We did it! We did the 4 park challenge! Not every vacation has to be relaxing, sometimes you just need to have fun! We started at Animal Kingdom, then park hopped to Hollywood Studios, rode almost everything in the Magic Kingdom, and then finished the night with EPCOT’s Harmonious nighttime show.
Date 4: This was the latest that we stayed out because we went to Halloween Horror Nights! We left at midday and came home after 3:00 AM… Like a couple of teenagers! It was so fun and freeing being out that late and felt so funny essentially sneaking into our room so we didn’t wake the kids. It was so much fun. I don’t even care that we were surviving off of Monster the next day. Worth it.

Try Kids Nite Out!
These 4 dates were moments with my husband. These were memories. These were days filled with fun where I had a first name. Next time you’re in Orlando, give the service a try and take a day at the parks with your spouse. You need that together time. You need fun!
