Whenever you book a Disney vacation you may recall being asked if you would like to buy travel insurance through Disney.
Most people scoff at the thought of paying even more money for their vacation, but if you’re a military family, specifically active duty, you may want to consider vacation insurance.
What Is Vacation Insurance?
Travel Insurance covers your vacation and travel expenses in the case of having to cancel your trip. Disney is a very expensive (but worth it!) vacation, so what happens if the military gets in the way of your vacation?
Personal Experience
What military family hasn’t had an abrupt change of plans because of the military, because I know it cannot just be my family! We have had vacations canceled and altered due to last minute training exercises, detail, TDY, change of leadership, etc. etc. We have learned our lesson! We never book a vacation without the trip insurance!
If you have to change or cancel your vacation at the last minute, your travel insurance through Disney will cover your park tickets, hotel and package costs, and even your airline tickets, (if applicable). It also will cover lost bags or even bag delays, rental car damage, and personal injury up to $25,000.
Think about this: You’re planning a wonderful, magical homecoming Disney trip for your family to have reunification time after a long deployment and the worst thing happens – The homecoming gets delayed 2 weeks! If you have the insurance, you can simply shift the vacation to the right. Easy peasy.
How Much Does It Cost?
Disney offers their own travel insurance, but know that you can purchase a policy through any other company for your Disney Vacation. We Googled “Travel Insurance” and there were literally hundreds of options. All of these options will be cheaper than the insurance through Disney.
Even knowing this, we still purchase directly through Disney. Why? Because we know that they’re good for it. There are a lot of scammy companies out there, and who knows if that super cheap company would actually pay out on the claim? At least with the insurance through Disney we know that they have a reputation to protect, so the insurance will be legit.
The standard flat rate for travel insurance through Disney is $82.50 per adult and $6 per child. Note that children are considered 3-9, and 10 years and up are considered an adult. Insurance must be purchased for everyone included in the party.
How Do You Get It?
Disney Travel insurance can be added to your vacation package at any time until the final payment is made. Ears of Experience, Military Disney Tips Recommend Military Family Specializing Travel Agent can add it for you when making your reservation.
