If you’re traveling with younger kids or simply love classic Pixar storytelling, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! is one of the most charming dark rides at Disney California Adventure.

This family-friendly attraction brings the world of Monsters, Inc. to life as guests help Mike and Sulley return Boo safely home through the streets of Monstropolis.

It’s a gentle ride with no height requirement, no big drops, and no intense motion — making it a perfect break between thrill rides or a go-to option for families with toddlers, preschoolers, and sensitive riders. Despite its simplicity, the attraction delivers strong animatronics, colorful sets, and plenty of recognizable characters from the movie.

Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! is due to close permanently in early 2026. The popular attraction, located in Hollywood Land, is being removed to make way for a new, immersive Avatar-themed destination. While an exact date has not been released, it is expected to close around February or March 2026.

Location

Disney California Adventure | Hollywood Land

Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! is located in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure Park. The attraction sits near the main pathway connecting Hollywood Land with the entrance corridor toward Avengers Campus, making it an easy stop as you move through the front half of the park.

Because of its convenient placement and family-friendly appeal, this ride often draws steady crowds throughout the day. It’s a popular first attraction for families entering the park in the morning and a reliable filler ride when wait times spike elsewhere.

The Queue

The queue winds through the Monstropolis cityscape, setting the stage for your rescue mission. Bright signage, industrial textures, and familiar Monsters, Inc. details help establish the environment before boarding.

Convenient Snack Machines in the Queue

Most of the queue is outdoors with limited shade, so lines can feel warmer during hot days. Because this is a popular family ride, wait times can build steadily throughout the day — especially in the late morning and afternoon when younger guests are most active.

This attraction is available via Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Disneyland Resort, which can significantly reduce standby waits on busy days.

The Ride

Guests board their taxi cab and immediately jump into the chaos of evacuating Monstropolis after Boo has been discovered. Mike and Sulley enlist your help to sneak Boo past CDA agents and return her safely to her door.

The ride moves slowly through a series of detailed scenes filled with audio-animatronics, screens, lighting effects, and familiar characters like Roz, Celia, Randall, and more. The storytelling follows the emotional arc of the movie while keeping everything lighthearted and playful.

There are no drops, fast turns, or scary moments — just colorful scenes, gentle motion, and lots of visual detail that younger riders can easily enjoy.

The Ride Vehicle

Ride vehicles are themed taxi cabs that seat multiple riders per row. Bench seating allows families to sit together, and boarding is easy for most guests.

The vehicles move continuously through the loading area, but Cast Members can slow or stop the belt as needed to assist with boarding.

Rider Swap

Rider Swap is technically available, but because this attraction has no height requirement and very gentle motion, most families ride together without needing to use Rider Swap.

If needed, Cast Members at the entrance can assist.

Accessibility

Guests using wheelchairs or ECVs must transfer to the ride vehicle. The attraction is not wheelchair accessible during the ride itself.

Because the ride is slow-moving and gentle, it is generally well tolerated by guests with motion sensitivity. Service animals are not permitted on the ride.

Guests with accessibility questions should consult a Cast Member or Guest Relations for personalized guidance.

Height Requirement

There is no height requirement for Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!.

This makes it an excellent option for all ages, including infants and toddlers.

Wrap-Up

Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! is a wonderful example of classic Disney dark ride storytelling. It’s colorful, approachable, and full of heart — making it a reliable favorite for families and Pixar fans alike.

If your group includes young children or anyone who prefers gentle attractions, this ride should absolutely be on your Disney California Adventure must-do list.

Have you ridden Monsters, Inc. at DCA before? Is it a family favorite or more of a “nice bonus” ride for your crew? Let me know in the comments!

I love this ride. It’s so cute. However it will be closing for good probably in the next few months. Hoping to get on it one last time in April if it hasn’t closed yet. No official date yet just early this year. They are going to be getting an Avatar land evidently and it includes that area. I hope they can put it in somewhere else though. Maybe the new MI area at Hollywood Studios? Haven’t heard anything like that happening, but I can hope.
