Race through Ornament Valley with Lightning McQueen and Mater on one of the best attractions at Disneyland Resort.
If you ask Disney fans to name the best attraction at Disney California Adventure, Radiator Springs Racers is almost always near the top of the list. Located deep inside the incredibly themed Cars Land, this attraction combines a dark ride, scenic outdoor ride, and high-speed race finale into one unforgettable experience.
Even if you are not a huge fan of Pixar’s Cars movies, the level of detail here is incredible. From the neon signs of Radiator Springs to the sweeping rockwork of Ornament Valley, Disney Imagineers created an attraction that feels like stepping directly into the film.
For many guests, this is the headliner attraction at Disney California Adventure and one of the top rides at all of Disneyland Resort.
Location
📍 Disney California Adventure | Cars Land
You’ll find Radiator Springs Racers at the back of Cars Land in Disney California Adventure. The massive Cadillac Range mountains towering over the attraction make it almost impossible to miss as you enter the land.
The main entrance is located near Flo’s V8 Cafe and Ramone’s House of Body Art. At night, the neon lighting throughout Cars Land makes this entire area one of the most visually impressive spots in Disneyland Resort.
Radiator Springs Racers is also one of the most popular rope-drop attractions at Disney California Adventure, with many guests heading here immediately at park opening.
The Queue
The queue for Radiator Springs Racers is one of the most immersive in all of Disney Parks. The outdoor sections wind through Cadillac Range and Ornament Valley, giving you amazing views of Cars Land and the rockwork inspired by the American Southwest.
Inside, the queue transitions into Radiator Springs itself, complete with themed details and appearances from characters like Doc Hudson, Lightning McQueen, and Mater.
This queue is especially beautiful at night when Cars Land lights up in neon.
Wait times here are often among the longest at Disneyland Resort, frequently exceeding 90–120 minutes during busy periods. Because of that, many guests choose to use the Single Rider line or purchase Lightning Lane Single Pass access.
The Ride
Radiator Springs Racers begins as a relaxing scenic drive through Ornament Valley before transitioning into Radiator Springs. Along the way, you’ll encounter several characters from the Cars films, including Mater, Sally, Luigi, Guido, Ramone, and Doc Hudson.
Before the big race, your car stops either for a “paint job” at Ramone’s or new tires from Luigi.
Then it’s time to race.
The final outdoor racing section launches two ride vehicles side-by-side through banked turns, hills, and sweeping curves before one car narrowly wins the race. The race outcome is randomized, so the experience can feel slightly different each time you ride.
This attraction combines storytelling, Audio-Animatronics, scenery, and thrills better than almost any attraction at Disneyland Resort.
Ride Video
Here’s our full ride experience video from That Disney Family so you can see exactly what to expect on Radiator Springs Racers.
The Ride Vehicle
Guests ride in six-passenger cars designed to look like characters from the Cars universe. Each vehicle has two rows of three guests.
The vehicles are constantly moving through most of the attraction, though there are several slower scenes before the race portion begins.
During the race sequence, the ride reaches speeds of approximately 40 MPH, making this one of the faster attractions at Disneyland Resort.
Lightning Lane Single Pass
Radiator Springs Racers is not included with Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Instead, it uses Lightning Lane Single Pass, which is purchased separately.
Pricing varies by date and crowd levels, but this can be a very worthwhile purchase if standby wait times are extremely long.
Radiator Springs Racers is also included with Lightning Lane Premier Pass.
Single Rider Line
Radiator Springs Racers offers a Single Rider line, and it can save a tremendous amount of time.
Because the ride vehicles seat six guests, Disney frequently uses the Single Rider line to fill empty seats. The downside is that your party will almost certainly be separated.
If your group does not mind riding apart, this is often the best free strategy for experiencing the attraction with shorter waits.
Rider Switch
Radiator Springs Racers participates in Disneyland’s Rider Switch program.
This allows one adult to wait with a child who does not meet the height requirement or does not want to ride while the rest of the group rides first. Then the waiting adult can ride afterward without having to wait through the full queue again.
To use Rider Switch, speak with a Cast Member at the attraction entrance before entering the queue.
Accessibility
Guests must transfer from a wheelchair or ECV into the ride vehicle.
The attraction includes sudden turns, fast movement, darkness, loud sounds, and outdoor racing elements that may be intense for some guests.
Disney also notes that the attraction includes small drops and thrill ride elements.
Height Requirement
Guests must be at least 40 inches tall to ride Radiator Springs Racers.
This is one of the most popular attractions at Disney California Adventure for kids who finally reach the 40-inch mark.
Steve Says
Radiator Springs Racers is not just the best attraction at Disney California Adventure — it is legitimately one of the best Disney attractions in the world.
The combination of storytelling, scenery, thrills, music, and emotional nostalgia is outstanding. Cars Land itself is incredible, especially at night, and this attraction is the centerpiece that makes the entire land work.
If you only ride one attraction at Disney California Adventure, this should probably be it.
My biggest recommendation? Try to experience it twice — once during the day and once after dark. The atmosphere in Cars Land at night is absolutely magical.
