Happy New Year, Readers!
Just like the Disney California Adventure Park (DCA), Disneyland itself is scheduled for a few refurbishments this year; however, unlike the large Pixar Pier update in DCA (learn more about this update by reading our DCA Changes 2018 post), Disneyland’s renovations will be predominately small-scale.
See updated photos at the bottom of this post.
Beginning January 8, 2018, the tracks on Main Street, U.S.A. will be replaced entirely, which will result in the temporary shutdown of all Main Street Vehicles.
While the Main Street, U.S.A. tracks have been replaced before in sections, this is the first complete makeover that the beloved boulevard will experience. This update will feature new brickwork that will enhance the beauty of this classic turn-of-the-century American lane. Original Main Street, U.S.A. track pieces will be kept and preserved, while previously updated track pieces will be recycled.
Disneyland’s popular Fantasyland ride, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, will also be getting a makeover beginning January 8, 2018. This renovation will include a more easily accessible ride queue and an overhead shade structure for guest comfort. This new-and-improved classic attraction will also make its reopening debut in a shiny new coat of paint!
The aforementioned attractions (Main Street Vehicles, Dumbo the Flying Elephant) are tentatively scheduled to reopen in late winter/early spring, 2018.
Also, when planning a trip to The Happiest Place On Earth, make sure to check the Disneyland daily park hours page for any minor attraction refurbishments that may be scheduled during your visit. These refurbishments are subject to change daily.
Meanwhile, Disneyland will continue to make progress on the new Star Wars land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. This highly anticipated attraction is scheduled to debut in 2019 and will bring massive crowds to the park. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will feature a never-before-seen planet, remote trading post, and one of the last stops before entering primitive space. You might even be able to take the controls of the Millenium Falcon in one of the signature attractions!
What do you think of these upcoming changes? Are you excited to see a brand new Main Street, U.S.A.?
