The Queue
As you approach the entrance to It’s Tough to be a Bug, you’ll find yourself at the base of the iconic Tree of Life, the majestic centerpiece of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
The queue winds around the tree, giving you an up-close view of its intricate carvings that depict a variety of animals, each one more impressive than the last. The pathway is shaded by the sprawling branches of the Tree of Life, providing a cool and comfortable wait as you marvel at the artistry around you.
As you descend into the tree’s roots, the atmosphere becomes more cavernous and intimate, with dim lighting and the sounds of insects filling the air. The queue’s theming gradually immerses you into the insect world, setting the stage for the show you’re about to experience.
The Show
It’s Tough to be a Bug is a 4D show that combines humor, special effects, and a touch of the unexpected to give you a bug’s-eye view of the world. Hosted by Flik, the friendly ant from Disney-Pixar’s A Bug’s Life, the show takes place in a darkened theater inside the Tree of Life.
As the curtains rise, you’ll be treated to a variety of entertaining and educational segments featuring different insects, each showcasing their unique abilities and challenges. The show is packed with surprises, including animatronics, in-theater effects like puffs of air and spritzes of water, and 3D visuals that make it feel as though bugs are flying right out of the screen. Be prepared for a few startling moments, especially for younger guests, as the show includes some creepy-crawly effects that make the experience truly immersive. Note: many littles don’t care for these effects and might get upset!

Boarding and exiting the theater are easy, with wide aisles and gradual steps.
