Island Mercantile at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Convenient Discovery Island shopping with character gear, park souvenirs, and Tree of Life views.

Right in the heart of Discovery Island, Island Mercantile is one of those shops you’ll naturally pass by throughout your day. It’s a convenient, easy stop for picking up souvenirs or taking a quick break from the crowds without going too far out of your way.

Location

Animal Kingdom | Discovery Island

Island Mercantile is located on Discovery Island, just across the bridge from The Oasis, in front of the Tree of Life, and along the main pathways connecting the park’s lands. It sits between Creature Comforts (Starbucks) and the bridges leading toward Africa and Asia, making it one of the most centrally located shops in Animal Kingdom.

Because of its position, it’s an easy stop no matter where you’re headed—and a convenient place to browse while moving between lands.

Just across the walkway to The Oasis sits the other big merchandise shop in Animal Kingdom, the Riverside Depot (the largest Merch Shop in Animal Kingdom).

Atmosphere

Island Mercantile continues Animal Kingdom’s theme of immersive, nature-inspired design, with a look that blends into the lush surroundings of Discovery Island. The exterior feels like a rustic trading outpost, while the interior features warm wood tones and open, airy spaces.

The shop is smaller and more straightforward than Riverside Depot, but it’s typically a little less crowded, especially earlier in the day. Its location near the Tree of Life also gives it a unique sense of place right in the heart of the park.

Merchandise

Island Mercantile offers a solid selection of core Disney merchandise, making it a great quick-stop shop if you don’t want to head all the way back to Riverside Depot.

You’ll typically find:

• Animal Kingdom–branded apparel and souvenirs
• Classic Disney character merchandise (Mickey, Minnie, and friends)
• Plush toys and kids’ items
• Drinkware, pins, and small collectibles
• Seasonal and limited-time items
• Disney Artwork

While it doesn’t have quite the same depth of inventory as Riverside Depot, it often carries many of the same popular items in a more compact setting.

Tips for Visiting

Island Mercantile works best as a quick, convenient shopping stop as you move through the park. It’s not as large as Riverside Depot, but that can actually be an advantage depending on your timing.

• Stop in while transitioning between lands—it’s perfectly placed for it
• Visit earlier in the day for a calmer shopping experience
• Use it as a backup location if Riverside Depot is too crowded
• Grab smaller souvenirs here to avoid a longer stop later

Wrap-Up

Island Mercantile may not be the largest store in Animal Kingdom, but its central location and solid selection make it one of the most convenient. If you’re looking for a quick souvenir stop without the crowds—or just happen to be passing by—it’s well worth stepping inside.
