A refreshing oasis in Harambe serving iconic pineapple soft serve and frozen treats perfect for cooling off in Africa.
When the Florida heat hits hard in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, few snack stops are as reliable — or as beloved — as Tamu Tamu Refreshments. Tucked into the Africa section of the park, this small outdoor counter specializes in icy, fruit-forward treats that offer fast relief from the sun and crowds.
Whether you’re rope-dropping Kilimanjaro Safaris, escaping the midday heat, or simply craving something light and refreshing, Tamu Tamu delivers simple, satisfying snacks that keep you moving without a heavy meal slowdown.
It’s not flashy, it’s not complicated — but sometimes a cold pineapple soft-serve is exactly what the day needs.
Location
Tamu Tamu Refreshments is located in the Harambe village area of Africa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. You’ll find it on a corner along the main walkway in the Harambe Market area. Continuing on into Africa leads you to Kilimanjaro Safaris, going the other direction leads to Asia.
The stand sits across from the shaded seating area by the Dawa Bar and Tusker House Restaurant, making it a convenient, quick stop before or after safari rides. Its location also makes it an easy grab-and-go snack while moving deeper into Africa, over to Asia, or heading back toward Discovery Island.
Because it’s outdoors and relatively small, lines tend to move quickly — especially compared to larger counter-service restaurants nearby.
Ambiance
Tamu Tamu blends naturally into the Harambe village atmosphere with colorful signage, weathered textures, and a casual open-air feel that fits the African marketplace theme. It feels less like a traditional snack stand and more like a local refreshment kiosk you might stumble upon while exploring a village street.
You won’t find indoor seating or air conditioning here, but the nearby shaded tables offer just enough relief to pause, cool down, and enjoy your treat before continuing your park adventure. It’s a great people-watching spot and a natural mid-day breather during long park touring days.
Menu
Tamu Tamu Refreshments keeps its menu focused and refreshingly simple, which is part of its charm. The star of the menu is its pineapple soft-serve, along with a few frozen variations that rotate seasonally.
Typical offerings may include:
- Pineapple Dole Whip – A smooth, dairy-free pineapple treat that’s light, refreshing, and easy to enjoy even in extreme heat.
- Pineapple Dole Whip Float – Pineapple soft-serve served in pineapple juice for extra tropical flavor and hydration.
- Seasonal or Specialty Floats – Occasionally available variations, sometimes featuring adult beverage options depending on availability and park policies.
Because the menu is limited, this isn’t a stop for a full snack spread — but it’s ideal when you want something cold, quick, and not overly filling. It’s also a solid option for guests with dairy sensitivities.
Menus and specialty items can change seasonally, so it’s always worth checking the My Disney Experience app for the latest offerings on the day of your visit.
Mobile Order
Mobile Order is not currently available at Tamu Tamu Refreshments.
Orders are placed directly at the walk-up window. Lines typically move quickly, especially outside peak afternoon hours, but waits can increase on very hot days when frozen treats are in high demand.
Why Military Families Love This Stop
For military families touring Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Tamu Tamu Refreshments checks several practical boxes:
- Fast service keeps kids moving without long waits.
- Cooling treats help manage Florida heat fatigue, especially for younger kids and grandparents.
- Simple menu makes ordering easy for families juggling strollers, backpacks, and water bottles.
- Budget-friendly snack option compared to full counter-service meals.
It’s also an easy win for families staying at Shades of Green or using Military Salute tickets who are often maximizing long park days and appreciate quick refreshment breaks that don’t derail touring plans or budgets.
Wrap-Up
Tamu Tamu Refreshments may be small, but it plays an outsized role in keeping Disney’s Animal Kingdom days comfortable and enjoyable. When the sun is high, and energy is fading, this little Africa snack stand delivers exactly what it promises — fast, cold, refreshing treats that help you recharge and keep exploring.
If pineapple soft-serve is your kind of Disney snack, this one belongs firmly on your must-try list.
