A fresh retelling of Ariel’s story, filled with music, magic, and a splash of nostalgia.
Location
Hollywood Studios | Animation Courtyard
You’ll find The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure in the Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This show takes place in the same indoor theater that previously housed Voyage of the Little Mermaid, which closed in 2020. The refreshed venue offers a more modern take on Ariel’s world, with brand-new effects and updated staging that bring the undersea kingdom to life in a vibrant new way.
The Queue
Guests queue outside the theater in a partially shaded area. There’s limited protection from the elements, so keep an umbrella or poncho handy during rainy weather. This space doesn’t offer a preshow or major interactive elements, but Cast Members keep the line moving smoothly. Arriving 15–25 minutes before showtime is usually enough to secure a seat, though you may want to come earlier on busy days.
The Show
The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure is a stage show adaptation of the beloved animated film. This reimagined production uses a mix of live performers, puppetry, projection mapping, and special effects to retell the story of Ariel’s journey from sea to shore.
Many of the original songs return—“Part of Your World,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” “Under the Sea,” and more—alongside refreshed staging and new visual surprises. Ursula is a scene-stealer as always, and Ariel’s transformation is a crowd-pleaser with the help of new lighting and water effects.
The tone is upbeat and family-friendly, with just the right mix of humor, heart, and spectacle. Running around 20 minutes, it’s a great choice for families, especially those with younger kids or anyone who grew up loving Ariel and her world.
Seating and Theater
The theater is fully indoors and air-conditioned, providing a welcome break from Florida’s heat. Guests are seated in rows with padded backs and unobstructed views of the stage.
The upgraded venue includes modernized sound and lighting systems, making the musical numbers and storytelling feel fresh and immersive. There are designated spaces for wheelchairs and ECVs, along with companion seating. Try to sit near the center for the best view of the projection and lighting effects.
Rider Swap
This show does not offer Rider Swap, since it is not a ride-based attraction.
Accessibility
- Fully accessible for guests using wheelchairs or ECVs
- Assistive listening devices available
- Sign Language interpretation offered on select days (check with Guest Relations or Disney’s website)
- Theater is dark during some scenes and uses fog, lighting effects, and moderate sound levels
- Indoor venue with comfortable, climate-controlled seating
Height Requirement
There is no height requirement for this show. It’s open to all ages.
Single Rider Line
This attraction does not offer a Single Rider Line, as it’s a seated live performance.
Replacing Voyage of the Little Mermaid
If the location feels familiar, it’s because The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure has replaced the long-running Voyage of the Little Mermaid, which debuted in 1999 and officially closed in 2020. This new show retains the heart of the original while introducing more modern effects, brighter visuals, and a streamlined story. Fans of Ariel will appreciate the updates—and newcomers will fall in love with the undersea magic.
