The Astro Orbiter is a ride high above the Magic Kingdom in Tomorrowland, and you have probably walked by a bunch of times without even noticing!
📍 Magic Kingdom | Tomorrowland
Located next to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover in Tomorrowland, the Astro Orbiter is only accessible via the Astro Orbiter Elevator.
Don’t rush through Tomorrowland! It is a land filled with details, historical Disney facts, and nostalgia! Astro Orbiter is a happy ride that is sure to make you smile! And the best part is that the entire family can ride!
The Queue
There is no Lightning Lane for the Astro Orbiter, and the Standby wait times fluctuate between 15 – 40 minutes throughout the day. This ride will close if there is lightning reported in the area.
The double elevator that takes you up to the ride can only fit a couple parties at a time, and then there is very little queue space at the top of the elevator, so most of the queue line is outside on the ground level. Because of the low rider capacity, this attraction takes longer to get through the line.
The Ride
Astro Orbiter is actually the EXACT same ride system as Dumbo! We have seen it in Magic Carpets of Aladdin, and also Triceratop Spin. Even though it is essentially the same ride, it feels so much more exciting and intense because you are so high off the ground! You can see all of the Magic Kingdom!
Just like the classic Dumbo, Astro Orbiter has no height requirements!
The Ride Vehicle
The ride vehicles are miniature rocket ships with levers that can make the ships go up and down. These rocket ships are SMALL. Two adults should split and get separate rocket ships. Sure, they can fit, but you better be comfortable being very cozy. Legs wrapped around the person in front of you cozy.
We’re not sure where Disney thinks 2-3 people per rocket are going to fit, but we’re here to tell that that’s a bit of a stretch.
Height Requirement
There is no height requirement for Astro Orbiter, making it a thrilling experience for guests of all ages who want to soar above Tomorrowland!
Rider Swap
Rider Swap is not available for this attraction. With its high-flying, circular motion, it’s a fun ride for families to enjoy together.
Accessibility
Guests using wheelchairs or ECVs must transfer to the ride vehicle to experience Astro Orbiter. The queue is accessible, and Cast Members are available to assist with boarding if needed, especially as an elevator is used to reach the attraction’s loading platform
PRO-TIP
Astro Orbiter is a must ride at night! You can see all of the Magic Kingdom from your little rocket, now imagine seeing all of the Magic Kingdom lit up! If you are incredibly lucky and great at time organization, ride Astro Orbiter during the fireworks! Fireworks in the sky are great. Fireworks while in the sky are better!
