Changes to Genie+ at Walt Disney World for 2022 and 2023

Walt Disney World will no longer sell Genie Plus as part of a ticket.

Disney has announced that starting 8 June 2022 at Walt Disney World Disney Genie+ will only be purchasable via the My Disney Experience App on the day of use! That means that you will no longer be able to purchase Genie+ as a ticket add-on. Any previously sold tickets that have the Genie+ add-on will be honored for 2022. This is for WDW only and does not affect Disneyland tickets.

This is not necessarily a bad thing as I’m on record saying that you do not need Genie+ on every park day of your trip!

It is not known at this time how this change will affect WDW Disney Armed Forces Salute Tickets. It may be that Military Resellers (Base Ticket Offices) will stop selling the Genie+ add on starting 8 June or at some date further into the year, or they may continue to sell them through the end of the 2022 offer period as they are part of the contract with Disney.

I’m assuming that WDW is making this change due to the lack of perceived value of the service as it has been struggling under peak attendance periods. Disney says that those purchasing Genie+ will continue to enter 2-3 attractions or experiences each day using the Lightning Lane entrance, something they have said all along, but wasn’t always the case during peak periods.
