Yesterday many Base Ticket Offices and Shades of Green began selling Walt Disney World admission tickets again.
10 July 2020- Note some Base Ticket Offices may not have started selling yet. If your hasn’t see Buying Tickets Long distance
This includes:
This is good news for the military community.
Here is What You Need to Know
Available Tickets
Ticket options are limited at this time (compared to normal), due to the suspension of Park Hopping at Walt Disney World.
This is a big deal for the military community that we will get into more in just a bit!
The available tickets are:

Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way Tickets

Applicable Dates and Limits
Disney Armed Forces Salute Tickets may be purchased through 18 December 2020 and are valid through 26 September 2021.
Disney HAS NOT increased the maximum purchase limit as they have in the past for Salute Offers that were extended as they have twice in the past.
The Salute Ticket purchase limit remains at 6 per eligible member for a 21 month period!
Disney should increase the ticket limit to 12 for this extended timeframe, as they did in 2010-2012 when the fiscal year 2011 Salute was extended to 24 months, and in 2015 when the fiscal year 2015 Salute was extended by 3 months in order to switch to calendar year Salutes.
Disney discourages repeat visits by keeping the limit at 6 for a 21 month timeframe!
Walt Disney World has not yet published any Blockout dates for the 2020 Salute Tickets. Traditionally Christmas and Spring Break are blocked from use.

Prices on all of these tickets have not changed.

Park Hopping
So here is the issue with what Disney has announced.
There is currently No Park Hopping at Walt Disney World!
Disney has advised Military Ticket Offices that, “There will be no compensation to the guest for not being able to use the Hopper entitlement portion of any ticket. This applies to all ticket products that have the Park Hopper option.”
Why is this a bad for the military? Because Disney has refunded the difference between Hopper and Base tickets to the general public that purchased their tickets through Disney with their rooms.
Disney must feel that since the Salute Tickets are highly discounted they don’t need to give military families anything off for the lack of park hopping and that you’ll still be getting a pretty good discount.
The 4-Day Salute Hopper is $265, while the 4-Day MYW Military Base is $399.25. That’s still a $134.25 savings.
But here is what you would save under normal times: a 4-Day Regular MYW Military Hopper is $482.75, making your savings on the Salute Hopper $217.75!
But when you bought your Park Hopper Salute Ticket you paid for park hopping!
The General Public is getting refunds for not being able to park hop! Why not the military?
What Disney Should do!
In past years WDW offered the Salute tickets in Base plus Park Hopper, Base plus Water Park, and Base plus Hopping and Water Park. The price to add the Water Park or Hopping options to a ticket that was already purchased with the opposite option was always always the same amount.
The 2020 Salute ticket price difference between the Hopper and Hopper Plus is $50. This is what Disney should be refunding to military guests per Salute Ticket during the period that they do not allow park hopping! They can do this at Ticket and Guest Relations locations. Just offer up a Disney Gift Card, which will be spent at WDW anyway…
I recommend going to a Guest Relations location if you visit during the timeframe when Park Hopping is not allowed and ask for some sort of compensation. Be insistent and they will probably offer something to compensate you.
2021 Disney Armed Forces Salute
I’ve received many questions regarding when a 2021 Disney Armed Forces Salute will be announced.
As I keep saying these are unprecedented times!
In normal years (since 2016 and the FY/CY switch) the upcoming years Disney Armed Forces Salute in not announced until late-September. This date is based in internal Disney income projection meetings that are on a set schedule.
With all that’s going on, the 2020 ticket extension with its extension of the same prices through September 2021 and how poorly Disney has treated the military community during the last 4 months, who knows?
Of note is the 18 Dec 2020 ticket purchase cut off. If the Salutes are to continue (this has never been guaranteed), something will have to be done for those who, 1. decide to go to Disney World after 18 December 2020 and or 2. want to go after 26 Sept 2021.
If Disney decides to offer a 2021 Salute I expect the 2021 tickets will go on sale on 19 December and a new increased price. So if you plan to go in the first 9 months of 2021 you’ll need to get your tickets prior to18 Dec 2020.
It is unknown what Disney would do with the ticket limit if there were 2020 and 2021 tickets that were available for use at the same time. Would you be elegibel for 6 tickets from each offer?

Hello,
I just wanted to point out the savings are better than the scenario you presented since there is no 3-Day park hopper ticket for WDW. You used the price for a 4-Day park hopper military salute ticket and compared it to a 3-Day MYW ticket. But I still agree that if park hopping is not available we shouldn’t have to pay for it either just like the general public even if the MS tickets are already discounted to a great price. Thanks for the info!
Ops, thanks Samantha
Yep, somehow I mixed apples and oranges (3 & 4). I fixed it.
While there currently is no 4-day hopper, it is what the 4-day Disney Armed Forces Salute compares to.
I love Disney! As retired military family
We try to go every year if not every other year!! I think they should give the opportunity for military families to have the 12 tickets. We are in unprecedented times because we would definitely be the first ones to buy six tickets now and six more tickets to bring our families with us. How great would that be to celebrate as a family in surviving this pandemic.
Your posts over the last two days have had a very harsh tone over the perceived poor treatment of military members and their families. I think it’s fair to point out that Disney is not obligated to offer any discounts to military families. The discounts they give are very generous and as you said yourself, these are unprecedented times. Disney is clearly trying to do what they can to get things up and running safely and there is an awfully difficult amount of red tape involved in that process. I, for one, am grateful that they continue to give the discounts. Let’s not forget that.
Thanks Fina,
I am very frustrated with the way Disney has handled our community. And you are correct, they are under no obligation to offer anything.
The discounts are something to be very thankful for.
But Disney offered these discounts when they needed bodies in the parks (post 9/11 and the 2008/9 and on recession) and we came in droves to plus up their attendance.
I think what frustrates me the most is the lack of the collaborative relationship that Disney had with me in the past. There was a time when they would have reached out to me via my designated media relations contact to get input on what our community needed.
Their lack of interest over the last 5 years and the way that have ignored us these last 4 months, even though I kept reaching out with issues is worrisome.
Thanks again Fina,
I’ve toned it down some. The discounts are still nothing to disregard.
I used 4 of my 202 Salute 6 days already and my expiration hasn’t updated. Any idea on if we’ll still be able to use those last 2 days past 12/18/2020. I have an October trip booked but I highly doubt I’ll be comfortable going.
Yes you absolutely should Kari.
Call the Disney Internet Help Desk at 800-848-6413, option #3 to see if they can assist with the exp dates.
Why don’t they offer a Military. Salute Magic Your Way ticket, with no hopper as an option. I know they did have that back in 2010, but, discontinued it in favor of the hopper option..
Trust me, we’re all thankful for this ticket, but to offer that or at least compensate us for the difference would be the right thing to do right now..
Thank you Steve for everything you do for us fellow retirees. I am also retired from the USAF. I was wondering if you have heard of any updates on Disneyland tickets when and if they will start selling them. I plan on being in that are in the middle of OCT>
Hey Frank,
Thanks so much!
No, Disneyland announced their opening date to coincide with the historical timeline and then politics caused them to back up and postpone opening indefinitely.
They will need to have an opening day first, and then would (I assume) o through the arduous steps WDW went through in re-opening to get to the point we reached yesterday when tickets went back on sale.
BTW, we had almost no notice of WDW tickets going back on sale.
I have the extended dates on my WDW tickets but my frustration is over my Universal Orlando 5-day Salute to Military tickets. I have 5 of them and we will not be able to use them. I can not get any info from Shades of Green since they keep postponing their opening and there is no way to contact them. I don’t want a refund just an extension. Steve I remember once you posted that we would be able to change them to the 2021 year tickets by just paying the increae in price. Do you know if this is still true.
Hi Ruth,
Sorry for the delay in posting, I’ve been continuously poking those in the know.
I keep asking trusted sources and the answer is not at this time!
Though the thought is that they will.
I’m not sure if they are still doing it but I messaged Universal over Facebook, gave them all my ticket numbers and they gave me a new order number that I take to Guest Services with my old tickets and exchange them for new ones of the same type. No expiration date. I did this back in March though.
That’s awesome Taniesha.
Thanks for the intel!
I am.just curious how things will work with the extension and a new salute offer. We have been offered a once in a lifetime chance to go to Disney twice in the same year- if we can afford it. The first trip would be be August 2021 (am I correct- would buy our needed 4 Salute tickets now and expiration would be September 2021) but then I would need another 4 for the November 2021 trip. The only way we can make this work is with the heavily discounted tickets. But we have no idea if Disney will end up extending the 2020 dates through the end of 2021 (making us only eligible to purchase the last 2 tickets) or adding a new offer which would give us the opportunity to get all 6, correct?
Hi Julia,
Yes, correct. We are in the dark right now. Disney has not communicated anything that they have done so far for our community ahead of time, so there is no way to know what they will do moving forward.
We don’t know if Disney will offer a separate 2021 Salute that runs concurrently (unlikely) with its own ticket limit. We don’t know if Disney will raise the ticket limit for the 2020 tickets. We don’t know the fate of 27 Sept through Christmas 2021.
We’ll just have to wait and see.
Hello! Just found this website yesterday, makes planning a trip so much easier. Question though: We live in California and are trying to go the week of August 10th. I read the post about buying tickets long distance by emailing Shades of Green, but I got an automated message about their ticket offices being closed. I noticed they don’t actually open till August 12th. Is there a way to purchase tickets another way through them? We tried calling as well and still got an automated message. None of the bases in our area are open for ticket sales atm either.
Hi Rebecca,
As far as I know, they are teleworking. But if you don’t hear from them try some of the others mentioned on this page: https://www.militarydisneytips.com/blog/disney-military-discounts/buy-military-discounted-disney-tickets-by-phone/
HI, So if I am understanding things correctly, since I bought (4) 2020 Salute tickets in November 2019 I can only purchase (2) more Salute tickets from then to August 2021 (21monhs)? I am I reading that right? I need (3) tickets for January 2021. Is the smart move to buy (2) now and (1) after December 19th?
Hi Jospeh,
This is an unusual situation because of the closures this year.
You are allowed 6 tickets for the 2020 Salute (unless Disney increases this). The 2020 Salute ticket timeframe has been extended through 26 September 2021. The ticket limit has not been increased.
So with what we know today (this could change as we are very early in the process), having used 4, you are eligible for 2 more 2020 Salute tickets in Jan 21.
We don’t know if Disney will offer a separate 2021 Salute that runs concurrently (unlikely) with its own ticket limit. We don’t know if Disney will raise the ticket limit for the 2020 tickets. We don’t know the fate of 27 Sept through Christmas 2021.
If there are no changes by your Jan trip, the 3rd ticket will need to be an Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way Tickets, see https://www.militarydisneytips.com/blog/military-discount-theme-park-tickets/regular-military-discounted-magic-your-way-tickets/
Sounds like there is no good way to go at this time. Unfortunately, you cannot make park reservations without a valid ticket so the longer we wait to get the tickets for the non-passholders, the less likely it will be that we will all be able to visit the same parks on the same day. It’s a tough choice but maybe the “safe” option is to just get the two Salutes and one MYW tickets now to ensure we all get the same parks on the same day.
That could be Jospeh.
I’m in the same boat in reverse. My pass expires before my Nov trip and I’m too far out to renew it. The expiration will be extended through lete-Dec/early-Jan due to the closure, but they haven’t done it yet.
I’ve made park reservations for the rest of my party and I’m hoping I can join them once my pass exp date lets me…
We have made reservations to a resort off site and purchased tickets to other parks in the Orlando area, intending to purchase Disney Tickets just about the time everything was shut down. I paid thousands of dollars for reserved place and tickets so far because it was for a family of 14. The time is at the end of this ,month and I hesitate to spend one more dollar even though of course our excitement was to include Disney during this trip. We are to leave on the 25th of this month. I just heard that there may be a decision to close Disney again and if that happens others will close as well. Is this true I can’t find anything stating that?
Hi Regina,
I haven’t heard that yet but I would not be surprised the way this year is going. The uproar over reported cases increasing (as expected after the shutdown and with expanded testing) for a disease that is 99.996% non lethal to the non-nursing home/non- prison population is ridiculous and yet expected.
So I spoke with a cast member yesterday about already having salute tickets for 2020, but also a trip planned in 2021. She connected us with a ticket person and they both were extremely confident I should be able to buy 6 for 2020 and 6 more for 2021… but your post says this is not true. Frustrating to have so much conflicting information but I appreciate your research.
Hi Andrea,
My post says they have not put anything in writing regarding the ticket limit either online or to the ITT system.
I believe that eventually we will get there, but we just don’t know at this point.
I caution you about 100% believing something you are told by a cast member (phone, email, text, chat). Sadly they often put out bad information, you can read about the problem here: https://www.militarydisneytips.com/blog/disney-military-discounts/disney-parks-call-center-should-you-trust-them-about-military-discounts/
Any word on when (or if) military discounts on resort rooms For 2021 will be available? I called Disney today to update our reservations but was told that as of now no military discounts were available for resorts in 2021. Thanks.
Hi there Judy,
During normal times (sadly, this year is not normal) the upcoming year’s Disney Armed Forces Salute is not announced until late-September. You can’t the military room discount for the next year until Disney announces they have decided to offer a Salute.
As to whether Disney will announce on time, early, late, or at all this year I just can’t say.
I’m not seeing any general public discounts in 2021, they are currently all Aug-Sept 2020. We’ll have to watch what they do for the general public to give an indication of our getting an offer.
First time Disney World traveler. Thanks so much for all your information. I have not purchased any tickets yet as we only decided to go a couple of months ago. I am hesitant to purchase Disney tickets due to the spike in cases and for fear of them closing back down. Our trip would be the final days allowed before the blackout, December 13-18. Are any of the ticket options refundable? (Shades of Green, MWR, Disney site) Or is what I am understanding if we cannot use them by Dec ‘20 the expiration will be extended into ‘21? Thanks for any clarifications!
Hi Kimberlee,
The 2020 Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets have all been extended through 26 Sept 2021, so you’ll have until then to use them.
Disney does not refund under normal circumstances, which Disney has returned to (as far as ticket refunds).
I had a Disney trip planned in April which was cancelled. We were refunded the money for hotel rooms at shades of Green but were left hanging about our tickets. I finally talked to someone today at Shades ticket office. I asked for a refund and was told if I got a refund I could not buy military tickets until after September 2021. This was fine with me considering we will not be going anytime soon. I had to send an email to the shades ticket office requesting a refund and stating we would not be coming to Disney anytime this year or before September 2021. They said they would refund our money and it would take about 30 days and they would mail us a check. After all the fiascos I went through with them in the beginning of this crisis, I was very happy with the outcome today. Now, if they will just refund my money with no problems I will be ecstatic.
Thanks for sharing your experience Aimee!
Steve, I have a question: I have 2 Park Hopper passes that I purchased for my husband and me to use for our anniversary trip in November. I have reservations at the Port Orleans – French Quarter, which I smartly booked right before the Parks shut down. However, many of the extras my husband and I were going there to enjoy are most likely not going to be offered, which makes me want to re-book at a later date. I tried to reserve a moderately priced property sometime in 2021 but had no luck finding anything up through the extended ticket deadline (26 Sep), My question is, would I possibly have the option of swapping my tickets for 2022 tickets so that we can postpone our trip until things are relatively back to normal and we have the opportunity of enjoying some of the amenities we’ll miss out on this year?
Hi there Cathy,
I just did a quick search of 2021. I picked 1 or 2 random weeks in each month and the Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs had availability on every date I checked. These are the 2 moderate resorts that are open (CBR) or have an opening date (CS). There is no availability at both of the Port Orleans Resorts. You won’t see availability for them until they have a scheduled re-opening date. And that will be done based on need i.e. volume of people who want to go, They have to come near filling what’s available before opening more rooms.
Or did you mean you couldn’t find a military discount on moderate rooms in 2021? A military discount offer has not yet been announced for 2021. In normal years that is done in late Sept. No guess as to if or when this odd year!
So I am still confused regarding December 2020. Are the salute tickets not valid after December 18th? We just decided to go Dec 22-28. I would like to purchase tickets soon but not if they won’t be valid then. Thanks!
Hi Kristin,
The Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets have definitely been extended through 26 Sept 2021!
The only question in my mind is whether there are Christmas blockouts.
I am here at WDW now and Disney is confused about it too! I’ve received multiple different answers to the question.
Disney Springs Guest Relations said “Yes they are blocked 19 Dec – 2 Jan”, Magic Kingdom Guest Relations said “We don’t even show the tickets valid after 18 Dec” Epcot and Animal Kingdom Guest Relations shrugged.
The one I think I trust the most is from Shades of Green’s ticket office that said, Their Disney rep has said there are none. But they will check back and post on their site (next week?) if there are any. So I’ll post if something comes up.
Hi Steve,
I have a trip planned for 27 Dec – 2 Jan. My travel agent sent me a screenshot from Disney’s website that states of Military Salute tickets “Purchase By December 18, 2020, Valid Admission Dates January 1, 2020 through September 26, 2021 (no blockout dates)”.
I’ll feel better when we see that Shades has not posted any updates on Christmas blockouts after checking with their rep.
If we see nothing by next week I think we are good.
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/special-offers/military-multi-day-tickets-2020/details/
Disney site states “Valid January 1, 2020 through September 26, 2021 (no blockout dates)”
Thanks Missi,
Yes I know that, but see what I said above. The Disneyland website does have Christmas blockouts posted.
The Disney World website is not always updated in a timely manner or properly.
Disney is awful with communicating with the military community, and it’s only been worse this year with all the turmoil.
I’m wondering why Shades of Green has nothing available after September 7, 2021? Any idea why instead of the posted no check in or check out date they actually have an X on some dates on the reservation calendar (they are scattered throughout the calendar from now through September 8 2021). Since this isn’t Disney and is the actual SOG website maybe you have some insight 🙂
Hi Vicki,
On Shades’ online booking system the Xs are nights that they are at capacity and have no vacancy.
I have two thoughts, first that I do not know if they are operating at full capacity at this time. They could have a reduced staff and thus reduced number of rooms that are available. BUt probably not. It’s common to see some to most of the days of the month fill up the closer you get to the time in question.
But as far as Sept 2021, that’s a stumper. Either something is going on (a technical glitch) with their reservation system for that timeframe, or they may have a big function during that time that is taking up a big chunk of rooms.
I’d call to ask, Reservations (888) 593-2242
The Armed Forces salute tickets are a very generous discount. I want to take exception, Steve, to your suggestion that we show persistence at Guest Relations to try to get a $50.00 credit out of WDW. This is something like expecting a military discount at stores and restaurants and getting openly agitated when told a discount is not available. My concern is that discounts could go away altogether if military members whine too much. We are not entitled to the generous deal Disney gives us. Yes, it is a little different as we plan a second grandchild trip to WDW in February (of course, things could change) with the understanding we can’t move back and forth between parks. However, when we were last there almost 3 years ago, we did one park per day for 5 days and then Epcot and Magic Kingdom on the last as that was what the grandchild wanted. Prior planning will change the way we execute our trip, but we are still grateful to be going at the prices we are charged vice the “going rate” charged the general public. God Bless the work you are doing.
Hi there Robert,
Thanks for your thoughtful comment.
I have been so discouraged by the way that Disney has treated the military throughout this, that I too fear for the continuation of any military discounts. But not because we ask for what we were promised and paid for, rather because of the total disregard we have been shown this year. There are people who have lost hundreds to thousands of dollars in tickets that 1. Some Bases won’t refund because of Disney’s no refund clause in the Disney-MWR contract and 2. Disney won’t refund either! Plus the total lack of communication to our community.
With the low crowds it is totally possible to do everything that you’d like in a park in one day, but that’s not the point. What’s right is right. They refunded all the general public tickets to the base (non-hopper) ticket price.
I hope that you have a wonderful trip with the grand kids!
What are my options if we went FEB of 2020 and we have our next resort reservations for FEB of 2021? We used our six in FEB but were hoping for 2021 tickets. I am guessing they will not renew the contract since they have extended their ticket length to SEPT of 2021. THOUGHTS?
Hi Rebecca,
What I’m thinking is, Disney is going to be in a bad way as long as this covid hysteria is prevalent in the general public. They will need bodies to come to their parks and resorts. Their proven way to do that is discounts.
In the last 2 travel crises (post 9/11 & post 2009 recession) they have started to offer the Salute discounts as a loss leader to get military bodies on property, making not only that sales amount on tickets and rooms, but also food, merch, and other items on top of it.
I think that they will do this!
They are going to have to address the post 18 Dec 2020 timeframe for rooms and post 26 Sept 2021 for tickets, as well as the ticket limit for the military community. They are just trying to get by in crisis mode right now, thinking just as far ahead as they need to (which as of 1 day ago is currently 17 April 2021 for the general public room discounts).
The salute ticket extension through the end of Disney’s fiscal year 2021 was a quick snap decision with little thought to address their utter failure to think about the military community as this all evolved (probably prompted by my letter to their CEO). They just kicked that particular can down the road so they wouldn’t have to think about it. They gave it so little thought that they did tot realize that without increasing the ticket limit to 12 (as they have for all past extensions of salute offers past 12 months) they were excluding a group (of regular guests) from their incentive to come.
I’ve reached out to Disney to try to get them to address this.
I feel that they will, but they just don’t think that deep about this on their own…
I don’t foresee them needing to think about the 4th quarter of calendar 2021 (for anyone) till early summer. With the first quarter of 2022 following that, with a probable back on the normal scheduled release of the next year’s salute in late Sept 2021
My concern is my trip next year. Back in January I bought 4 Salute tickets and had our Spring trip cancelled. We are now scheduled for Christmas. We normally schedule a trip in June with other family members. If I use my 2020 tickets this Christmas and they have extended them to SEP2021, and considering they offer 2021 Salute tickets, will these 4 count against my 6 for 2021? it’s the overlap in timing that I’m interested to see, “what will they do?”
Hi Shawn,
We certainly are in unknown territory and receiving zero to awful communication from Disney.
But here are my thoughts.
The ticket limit is per individual offer period, not a calendar timeframe. The 6 ticket limit for the 2020 Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets now extends through 26 Sept ’21. If a separate offer is made for some or all of 2021 it would have it’s own individual limit.
I’ve reached out to Disney to remind that that the 2 times they have extended a Salute past 12 months they have increased the offer ticket limit to 12.
Steve – do you have any hints/ideas if they will offer any ticket offers that are good past 26 Sep 2021? We have 2 trips planned in Oct & Dec .. but frustrated that right now the only thing available past 26 Sep is full-price tickets (I’m regretting not buying my children their annual passes last summer, never expected them to keep things turned off this long). Any insights, thoughts? BTW – love all your tips and info you put out!
Hi there Dan,
Thanks so much and thanks for the question. I recently did a post on this topic, check out https://www.militarydisneytips.com/blog/disney-armed-forces-salute/2021-disney-armed-forces-salute-what-about-tickets/
Then let me know if you have any questions. I know it’s so frustrating!!!
I hope we hear something in the next week or so…
Thanks Steve – I did a search before I posted but somehow didn’t see that blog. Appreciate the info. Will actually be at WDW starting Feb 15th, so it they do announce a new offer I might just have to make a visit over to Shades of Green! Otherwise I think I’m close to having to purchase other less-heavily discounted tickets so we can make park reservations for the rest of the family.
Thanks again for all the info!
