You may have earned your Expert Marksman badge on the range, but those skills will only take you so far on a Disney shooter attraction.
You will need not only marksman-like skill, you also need some insider information on the top scoring targets. Follow our tips to flex your sharpshooter skills on your fam at your next Disney World vacation!
Walt Disney World is home to 2 different interactive game attractions – Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in the Magic Kingdom and Toy Story Mania in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. These ride-on game attractions put the guests into the game to compete with other members in their car.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
This Tomorrowland attraction puts guests into the video game that our pal Rex was absolutely obsessed with, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, only this time you can beat Zurg!
The ride vehicle is equipped with 2 laser guns and guests have to shoot the Zurg “Z” targets to rack up points. These targets are tricky, and it’s hard to tell if you actually hit the target.
The goal is to collect as many points as possible. The higher the points, the higher the rank earned. The ranks are:
0 – 1,000 Star Cadet
1,001 – 10,000 Space Scout
10,001 – 100,000 Ranger 1st Class
100,001 – 300,000 Planetary Pilot
300,001 – 600,000 Space Ace
600,001 – 999,998 Cosmic Commander
999,999 Galactic Hero
SECRET: If you earn the highest rank of Galactic Hero be sure to visit the Cast Member in the gift shop right outside of the ride for your FREE Galactic Hero sticker! This is a coveted free Disney souvenir that can only be earned!
Tips:
Zero in your weapon, I mean Laser Gun! Before the fun begins, you will pass through a dark tunnel. Use this time to shoot at the black wall to determine if your red dot is a little off center.
Hint – It will absolutely be off center, but this way you can determine which direction it is off so you can compensate.
Giant Red Robot: In the first room there is a moving robot. He has multiple targets on him, but you should aim for the inner moving arm, close to the body. This target is worth 100,000 points AND you can hit it multiple times!
Volcano: Ignore the little alien guys and shoot the volcano to rack up 25,000 points and make the volcano erupt.
Ooooooo, The Claaaaawwwww : This one will take some skill, for sure. As you pass the claw, spin your car and aim for the target on the underside of the moving claw. This is worth 100,000 points!
Zurg’s Ship : There is a difficult target at the bottom of Zurg’s orange spaceship that is worth 25,000. This one is so tricky that it might be better to focus on getting as many 10,000 point targets instead of trying for this small potatoes target.
Hyperspace: Just when everyone has let their guard down you are going to focus on the exit and find the large spaceship. Aim for the black dot. If you nail this shot it is another 100,000 points!
Toy Story Mania
Funny enough, the other interactive game attraction in Walt Disney World is another Toy Story themed one. Where Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin places you in the video game, Toy Story Mania makes you an honorary toy, and you’re just one of the gang!
This attraction combines moving ride vehicles with 3D technology to create a fun, and very accurate, game set-up. In place of a gun, you will have a ball on a pull string to use to play the different games. Your forearms will get a work out!
In this ride, you not only compete with the person next to you, but also the people behind you sharing the same ride vehicle. Toy Story Mania definitely brings out the competitiveness in people!
Tips:
- Don’t waste your energy on the practice round. There are no points to earn here, and you’ll just tire yourself out.
- Go for the moving targets! Any target that is moving will be worth the most. Also shoot for the targets way in the back of the screen. The ones right in front of you will be the lowest point targets.
Game 1: Hamm and Eggs – Look to the lower side of the screen for a hen house. Shoot the fox off to send chickens running all over your screen for non-stop point action for the rest of the game!

Game 2: Dino Darts – Fire darts at the skinny balloons below the volcano. Once you pop all of the skinny balloons the volcano will erupt with 500pt balloons!

Game 3: Army Men Plate Toss – This tip is counterproductive if you are competing with your partner here, but if you each smash your 2,000 plate at the same time, you will be sent more higher point value plates. Once you smash all of those you receive a tank full of plates.
Game 4: Buzz’s Flying Tossers – Toss rings over all of the aliens sitting in the rocket ship in the center of the screen for it to blast off revealing a robot. This robot will then give you the opportunity for 100 pt, then 200 pts, 500 pts, 1,000 pts, and finally 2,000 pts.
Game 5: Woody’s Shootin’ Gallery – DON’T SLOW DOWN! You’re at the final part of the game and Woody reveals a target for a bonus round that you can hit as many times as possible in an allotted time. Everytime you hit it the target will be worth more points, so work through the pain!
