If you have been to Walt Disney World before you may be looking to spice up your next trip. There’s no better way than to complete a Disney World Challenge!
Disney World Challenges are unofficial fan-created tasks to add an extra element to the fun of Disney. These are great for groups, adult trips, or trips for people who have been to the parks many times.
What is the Mountain Challenge?
The Mountain Challenge takes place in the Magic Kingdom where guests challenge themselves to ride all 3 mountain rides. The NEW Mountain Challenge includes riding Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train all in the same day.
The old Mountain Challenge used to include Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, and Splash Mountain, hence the name “Mountain Challenge”.
Why Did The Mountain Challenge Change?
In 2021 the Disney Company announced that they were going to retire all of the Splash Mountain attractions through all Disney parks. The Disney company has decided that the theming of “Song of the South” no longer matched the views of the company.
Splash Mountain closed in early 2023 and is being completely refurbished into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, It is due to reopen in 2024.
How to Tackle the Mountain Challenge
The Mountain Challenge is totally doable! Like anything in Disney World, a little planning goes a long way!
Using Genie+ to Complete the Mountain Challenge!
The easiest way to complete the Mountain Challenge in Disney World is to use Genie+. Genie+ is a paid for service from Disney that allows you the ability to skip the lines.
You can combine the use of Lightning Lanes for Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and an Individual Lightning Lane for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Luckily, none of these Lightning Lanes sell out easily during the day.
Difference Between Lightning Lanes and Individual Lightning Lanes
Genie+ can be confusing, and Disney didn’t help by making the names so similar! So here’s a simple breakdown:
Lightning Lanes:
Lightning Lanes are similar to the old days of Fastpass, only now it is a paid for service. The price varies between $15 – $29 per person per day based on the demand of the day.
Dozens of attractions are available to skip the lines with Lightning Lanes through Genie+.
Individual Lightning Lanes:
Individual Lightning Lanes are like a “pay per ride” line skipping service. This includes the most popular attractions in Walt Disney World, like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Avatar Flight of Passage.
Costs of Individual Lightning Lanes vary based on demand.
Completing the Mountain Challenge WITHOUT Genie+
It is totally possible to complete the Mountain Challenge without the use of Genie+! If you Rope Drop Magic Kingdom and head right to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, you will have no problem completing the rest of your challenge.
PRO-TIP: You can get in line for attraction up until park close. So, if the park closes at 9:00 and you enter a queue, no matter how long it is a 8:59, you still get to ride! Often times you will find shorter ride times
Celebrate Your Victory!
Show off your accomplishment with a Disney Celebration pin! You can visit any Guest Relations stand in the parks, (the people with blue umbrellas) to a Disney Celebration pin. These are completely free and can be customized to include whatever it is that you’re celebrating!
