Long days touring Disney World’s Magic Kingdom can take a toll on both people and electronics!
During Busy seasons the Magic Kingdom can be open for over 16 hours a day. If you find yourself spending most of one of these long days in the park, not only will your feet be tired, but your modern electronic devices will be running out of juice too.
What to do?
Well, Disney has the answer, a shady place to take a load off your feet and charge up your smart phone or other devices at the same time.
This area was created as part of the big Fantasyland Expansion a few years ago. Walt Disney World expanded Fantasyland to offer more attractions and dining experiences. It was been a very big project with most of it it taking place towards the rear to the rear right corner of the park.
The Charging Area however is to the left side of Fantacyland, almost into Liberty Square. This whole area was refurbished early in the expansion. New larger bathrooms were added, plus a shortcut to the Haunted Mansion and Repunzel’s Tower.
Nestled between the old way to Liberty Square and the new bathrooms sits the quite charging area. This whole area used to house the skyway to Tomorrowland station during the early days of the Magic Kingdom.
In the charging area there are tables and half barrel/log stools where you can take a load off. The highlight however are the “Tree Stumps” that have access doors which open up to reveal electric wall sockets for your chargers to plug into.

We checked out this area on our trip two weeks ago and it was perfect for re-charging a phone. It was shaded, restful and quiet! (Compared to the rest of Fantasyland, of course)! The only downside I could see was that there were not enough sockets to handle a large volume of “rechargers”, which could be an issue as word gets out about this area and more and more people rely on MDX.
I would love to see more areas like this throughout all the parks. And probably in time, there will be. On the first day of our trip (which was also my first day of using the “My Disney Experience” app, the app drained my phone battery by 8:30 that evening (while we were still in the park). We were in Epcot that day and unfortunately no where near a charging station long enough to re-charge.
Usually my phone holds a charge for at least a day and a half, so I must admit that I was surprised by the huge drain this app created. And part of it was that I was learning to work with it that first day. After that, I was able to make it through the parks each day without re-charging until back in the hotel each evening.
Hey there Linda,
Thanks for the great comment! I too expect these charging spots to eventually make appearances in other parks/places as renovations take place. Charge up on Pandora…
This is also a welcome reversal of the trend at WDW to do away with all of the quiet spots in favor of retail and character greeting areas (Tiana’s comes to mind).
Next time try fully quitting MDE when you are not using it, or turning off the GPS function (except when you need it), that should help the battery
Thanks, Steve, for the great suggestions on conserving my battery in the future while using MDX. I’ll keep that in mind for next time!
I went to Epcot in early November during the food and wine festival and chase bank is a huge sponsor and I have the chase Disney card. Chase provided a private location (next to America pavilion) on the 2nd floor with free soda, water etc and charging stations for all electronics. What a great break and so relaxing. My kids loved it. The workers told me that it was only for the festival because chase was a sponsor. Let’s hope they become more permanent.
I did see the line of people queued up to enter during the F&W Tracey and I think I saw some pics on AllEars. As time goes on, we’ll see more of these charging areas.
It’s a shame you don’t have a donate button! I’d most certainly donate to this brilliant blog!
I suppose for now i’ll settle for bookmarking and adding your RSS feed to my Google account. I look forward to new updates and will share this site with my Facebook group. Chat soon!
