History of EPCOT: Walt’s Original Vision That Never Came to Be

Walt Disney’s Utopian Vision

Walt Disney saw EPCOT as a living laboratory, an opportunity to showcase and test the latest advancements in urban planning, transportation, and infrastructure. It was to be a city that evolved with time, adopting new technologies and innovations to enhance the quality of life for its residents.

Walt’s Original EPCOT Film

In 1966, Walt Disney himself presented his vision for EPCOT during Wonderful World of Disney, which aired on television on Sunday evening. People would flock to their television to see what new creations the magical company was cooking up for their theme park. He introduced the world to a city where innovation and progress were at the core of daily life. The film showed a city that prioritized public transportation, reduced traffic congestion, and utilized innovative architecture and technologies to create a better environment for its citizens.

Walt’s enthusiasm for EPCOT was evident in every frame, as he detailed his vision for a city where “people would live a life they can’t find anywhere else in the world.”

EPCOT: Walt Disney’s Final Bow

In the final days of his remarkable life, Walt Disney’s dedication to his dream of EPCOT remained unyielding, even as he battled illness.
