Disney’s Old Key West Resort is the oldest Disney Vacation Club property!

This resort dates back to the beginning of the DVC concept. It opened in 1991 as the first and only  Disney Vacation Club Resort. At the time, it was called The Vacation Club Resort, it was renamed to Old Key West in January 1996, just before the BoardWalk Villas opened in July of that year.

Old Key West is a very large, spread-out resort, with many sections quite a distance from the lobby and main area.

Guest Rooms

You will find 4 room types at Old Key West.

Deluxe Studio – $488 – $825 – Room Size: 390 square feet

Studios at Disney’s Old Key West Resort feature 2 queen-sized beds, a nightstand, a small round table with 2 chairs, a ceiling fan, a TV, a closet, a small patio/balcony, and a kitchenette. The kitchenette comes with a microwave, toaster, a 12-cup coffee maker, a sink, and a mini-refrigerator. The patio/balcony features 2 chairs and a small table. The Studios are the only Disney Vacation Club studios that feature 2 beds rather than a bed and pull-out couch. Views of Water, Woodlands, or Fairways.

Studio – note: blinds are 2″-3″ out from the door windows. They let in massive morning light, and also even at nighttime.

One Bedroom Villas – $664 – $1172 – Room Size, 1,005 square feet

One One-bedroom villas feature a large great room with a couch, a love seat, a large plush chair that opens into a twin bed, a flat-panel TV, a 4-person dining room table, and a fully equipped kitchen. The master bedroom features a king-sized bed, a chair with an ottoman, and a large closet. In the master bath, there is a two-person jacuzzi tub, 2 sinks, and a stand-up shower. Two Bedroom Villas – $951 – $1834 – Room Size, 1,410 square feet

A two-bedroom villa is the same as a one-bedroom plus an additional bedroom off the living room, which is almost 100% comparable to a Studio. The only exception is that in some of the two two-bedroom villas, there is an additional walk-in closet in place of the studio entrance door and an additional sink in place of the kitchenette. Views of Water, Woodlands, or Fairways.

Three Bedroom Grand Villas – $2033 – $3285 – Room Size, 2,375 square feet

The Grand Villas sleeps 12 people and features 1 king bed, 2 queen beds, 2 double beds, and 1 queen sleeper sofa. They have 4 bathrooms and a very large living room area with all of the amenities contained in the one and two Bedroom Villas. Grand Villas are the least expensive Grand Villas compared to the other Disney Vacation Club Resorts. Views of Water, Woodlands, or Fairways.

Transportation

Bus transportation is available to all Disney World guest areas and within the resort. There are 5 bus stops located around the resort.

Boat Transportation to Disney Springs with connecting service to Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort at Disney Springs.

It is possible to walk to Disney Springs via a circuitous route, but it’s a haul. It’s 1 mile from property edge to property edge, and OKW is a large resort; you might walk a mile within the resort itself first.

Overnight Parking is free at the Disney World Deluxes.

Valet service is offered at Disney Deluxe and Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts. Upon your arrival, please check with the Security Host for parking options. Valet service is $42 per night (plus tax).

Disney’s Old Key West Resort Review

MDT Tested

This Disney Resort Hotel is a Military Disney Tips Tested Resort!

Old Key West’s Hospitality House Area, consisting of the lobby, restaurants, bar, and main pool, like the actual Key West, has a relaxed feel. It feels isolated from the rest of Disney World, and it is.

But as mentioned, a very large portion of the resort is a long walk from the Hospitality House, so you’ll probably want to use the bus. Just jump on any bus, no matter the destination, as the Hospitality House is the last stop before going off-property. Getting back to your building may require multiple stops. We’ve found this to be a big turnoff for Key West for us!

Unless you want to spend lots of time chilling in the main area of the resort, I might recommend staying elsewhere.

We do love Olivias! Always great food and service!

Let’s face it, Old Key West is a moderate resort for a deluxe price. While it has its die-hard fans (owners) in the DVC community, it is big and spread way out like the moderates; room entry doors are external, and you have the parking lot and road right out your door. The food service options are lacking (in level and variety) when compared with the other deluxes. Oliveia’s is fantastic, but the tiny counter service location with no seating and the 3 seat bar are frankly sad.

We also have a huge issue with the drapes and blinds in the Old Key West rooms. If you like a dark room to sleep in, this resort is not for you! The cloth-covered blinds on the balcony/patio doors are 2 to 3 inches away from the glass with large gaps on all sides, letting all light right around the top, sides, and bottom. The pull chain to lower and raise them is awful. When you give as a long pull as you can on the very short chain, the blind moves an inch, and it seems like it takes several minutes to get each one up or down, it seems like 35 pulls on the chain for each blind!

The front window drapes are also too far out from the wall/window, allowing the lights from the outside area in front of your room and the bright parking lot lights to shine over the top.

Then we get to the bathroom, which has an oval, uncovered window high up on the wall over the toilet. This allows the aforementioned front entry and parking lot lights to fully illuminate the bathroom, through the kitchenette, and into the bedroom. You have to close the bathroom door to shut out the light.

Lastly, the peephole in the entry door is huge, it’s about the size of a quarter. We’ve never seen one this big! It also allows the lights in the entryway to beam into the room. We always find a tissue or toilet paper stuffed in it to stop the light or put it there ourselves.
