Under the Sea – Journey of The Little Mermaid

Attention all Little Mermaid fans! Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid is a classic Disney dark ride.

📍 Magic Kingdom | Fantasyland

This Fantasyland ride which is for the whole family, retells the story of The Little Mermaid with music, colors, and audio-animatronics. Get ready to dive under the sea to face the sea witch, win over the heart of Prince Eric, and live happily ever after.

Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid is located in the Magic Kingdom in the New Fantasyland area. This attraction was a part of the newly expanded area that opened in 2012.

The Ride

This Little Mermaid inspired attraction is perfect for guests of all ages. It has no height requirement and is slow and easy. Grab a clamshell vehicle and let’s go on an under the sea adventure to become part of her world.

The clamshell vehicles are the same ride system as the Haunted Mansion. This omnimover, (meaning the ride system moves continuously), features a roomy ride vehicle that has only a lap bar, making it accessible to most guests.

Guests with limited mobility can speak to a Cast Member about slowing down the ride for guests to board safely.

The Queue

Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid’s queue is mainly indoors. It starts you on the beach and as you walk through the caves you will notice the colors getting darker and more blues and greens signaling that you are going further and further underwater.

PSA- The queue for this attraction is very tight and at times dark.

Because New Fantasyland is out of the way of a lot of big attractions, the wait times for this area stays pretty low. While Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid is a Lightning Lane Multi Pass attraction, it is a great “filler” attraction to go to between your other Lightning Lane reservations.

Genie+ Lightning Lane is available for Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid, but really not necessary to ride. The highest wait time on a typical day is about 30 minutes.

Fun Fact: Walt Disney World’s most intricate Hidden Mickey is actually in the queue of Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid! Imagineers shaped a partial Mickey in the roof area of the queue, and on Mickey’s birthday, a full Mickey shadow will appear on the back wall!

At 12:00 PM EST on November 18th crowds will gather to see this magnificent feat of imagineering.

Height Requirement

There is no height requirement for Under the Sea – Journey of The Little Mermaid, making it a delightful option for guests of all ages!

Rider Swap

Rider Swap is not offered for this attraction. However, its gentle pace and enchanting scenes make it a wonderful experience for families to enjoy together.

Accessibility

Guests using wheelchairs or ECVs must transfer to the ride vehicle to experience Under the Sea – Journey of The Little Mermaid. The queue is accessible, and Cast Members are available to assist with boarding if needed.
