Disney’s advertised Armed Forces Salute room discount is the maximum you could receive—not the discount Disney promises for every reservation.
2026 Armed Forces Salute Room Discount Update
The Disney Armed Forces Salute Room Discount continues in 2026, and Disney’s variable “up to” discount model remains in place.
Instead of receiving one fixed percentage based only on your resort category, the actual discount offered can vary according to:
- Your travel dates
- The Disney Resort
- The room type
- How much discounted inventory remains when you book
The percentage can decrease as discounted rooms are reserved. Eventually, the military discount can disappear completely for a specific resort, room type, or date.
Disney publishes two maximum discount windows for 2026:
- Most eligible dates: Up to 25% off Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts, 20% off Moderate Resorts, and 15% off Value Resorts
- June 1 through August 31, 2026: Up to 30% off Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts, 25% off Moderate Resorts, and 20% off Value Resorts
Many premium room types, including Club Level rooms, suites, Bungalows, and Grand Villas, are excluded from the offer.
New for 2026: Disney confirms that the Armed Forces Salute room discount can be combined with the Kids Free Dining Plan offer when booked as part of a qualifying Walt Disney Travel Company package. Packages have different pre-payment and cancellation policies from Room Only reservations!
One of the most confusing parts of the Disney Armed Forces Salute is that two military families can ask for the exact same dates, Disney Resort, and room type—and receive dramatically different discounts.
The family that books shortly after the new Salute offer is announced in November could receive the full 30% summer Deluxe Resort discount.
Another family calling in January or February for the same dates, resort, and room type could be quoted only 8% off because much of Disney’s discounted military inventory for that combination has already been reserved.
Neither quote is necessarily wrong.
Disney is changing the percentage offered as its remaining room inventory changes.
REALITY CHECK: Think of Disney’s published “up to” percentage as the ceiling—not a promise. You could receive the full maximum, a much smaller discount, or no Armed Forces Salute room discount at all for the resort and room type you request.
Why Didn’t I Receive the Full Disney Military Room Discount?
If Disney advertises savings of up to 30%, but your quote shows only 8%, 15%, or 22% off, it is natural to wonder whether something went wrong.
You may think:
- The Disney Cast Member applied the wrong discount
- Your travel agent missed a better rate
- The Disney website or reservation system is incorrect
- You are not receiving the military offer Disney advertised
The lower percentage is the result of Disney’s variable inventory-based discount system.
The highest discount percentages are offered when Disney has more rooms it wants to fill. As reservations increase, Disney can reduce the discount on the remaining rooms. Once the discounted inventory is gone, the Salute rate disappears for that resort, room type, or date.
EXPECTATION MANAGEMENT: The maximum percentage tells you the best possible discount for that offer window. It does not tell you what percentage will still be available when you call.
How the Disney Armed Forces Salute Room Discount Changed
2009 Through 2017: Fixed Discount Percentages
From the beginning of the Disney Armed Forces Salute in 2009 through the 2017 offer, the room discounts used a fixed percentage structure.
If the military discount was available for your desired resort, room type, and dates, you received:
- 30% off at Disney Value Resorts
- 35% off at Disney Moderate Resorts
- 40% off at Disney Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts
Availability was still limited.
A Standard room at Pop Century could be unavailable while a Preferred room remained available. Pop Century could be unavailable while All-Star Movies had discounted rooms. You might also need to change dates to find an eligible room.
But when an eligible room was available, the percentage itself was the advertised amount.
2018: Disney Introduced Variable Discounts Without Explaining Them
The 2018 Disney Armed Forces Salute brought the first major change to the military room discount structure. Disney no longer posted the discount percentages on their site, just that there was a discount.
Military families began reporting discount percentages lower than the familiar 30%, 35%, and 40% structure. Some were receiving discounts 5 to 10 percentage points lower. Others received even smaller discounts.
At the time, Disney did not clearly explain the new variable model.
Military families, travel agents, and Military Disney Tips readers had to compare quotes and reservation experiences to determine what had changed.
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE: It took a couple of weeks for my friends and me at The Mouse Experts to figure out what was happening. We realized that under this new, nontransparent system, the discount percentage was variable and decreased as discounted inventory filled.
2026: Variable Discounts Continue, but Disney Provides More Transparency
The variable model remains in place for 2026.
The important improvement is that Disney now publishes separate eligible stay windows and the maximum discount available in each window.
That still does not tell you the exact percentage you will receive, but it gives military families more information than they had when the variable model began.
For 2026, Disney clearly identifies:
- The eligible travel windows
- The maximum discount by resort category
- The stronger summer maximums
- The room types excluded from the offer
STEVE SAYS: This is a bit of an improvement from the last few years; at least we now know when the highest discounts are possible, in the summer, when it’s hottest.
How the 2026 Armed Forces Salute Room Discounts Work
Disney publishes a maximum percentage for each resort category and travel window.
When you request a reservation, Disney’s system checks the remaining military-discounted inventory for:
- Your dates
- Your selected resort
- Your selected room type
- The number of rooms already reserved
If discounted inventory remains, Disney offers a percentage up to the published maximum.
As availability tightens, the percentage decreases. Once the military inventory is exhausted, the discount disappears for that specific set of variables (dates, resort, room type).

2026 Eligible Stay Windows and Maximum Savings
Most Eligible 2026 Dates
January 1 through March 28, April 12 through May 31, September 1 through November 21, and November 29 through December 18, 2026
- Up to 25% off Disney Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts
- Up to 20% off Disney Moderate Resorts
- Up to 15% off Disney Value Resorts
Summer 2026 Window
June 1 through August 31, 2026
- Up to 30% off Disney Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts
- Up to 25% off Disney Moderate Resorts
- Up to 20% off Disney Value Resorts
Most families don’t realize: A higher published summer maximum does not mean every summer reservation receives that percentage. The actual offer still depends on the remaining military inventory when you book. You could receive anything from the maximum discount for your resort category down to no discount at all.
2026 Kids Free Dining Plan Combination
Disney is offering a Kids Free Dining Plan promotion on select qualifying 2026 packages.
Disney confirms that the Armed Forces Salute room discount can be combined with this dining offer when the reservation is booked as a qualifying Walt Disney Travel Company package and a dining plan is added for guests ages 10 and older.
Why Booking Earlier Can Matter
The variable discount model makes booking timing much more important than it was under the old fixed-percentage system.
Consider two military families requesting a Disney Armed Forces Salute discount for:
- The same Disney Resort
- The same room type
- The same travel dates
The family that calls shortly after Disney announces the offer could receive the full maximum discount.
The family that calls several months later could receive a much smaller percentage because the most deeply discounted inventory has already been reserved.
The second family has not necessarily missed the Salute offer completely. Disney may still offer a room—but at a reduced discount.
PRACTICAL LESSON: Under the variable model, waiting does not just risk losing the room; it can also mean receiving a substantially smaller discount on the same room.
What Can You Do If the Discount Is Lower Than Expected?
A disappointing quote does not always mean you should give up.
Try Another Room Type
A Standard room might have little or no military discount, while a Preferred, Water View, or another room category still has stronger discounted inventory.
Be careful, however. A larger percentage on a more expensive room does not automatically produce the lowest total cost.
Try Another Resort
A Disney Resort in the same category—or even a different category—could have a better military rate.
For example, one Disney Moderate Resort may have very little discounted inventory, while another Moderate still offers the full maximum.
Adjust Your Dates
Moving your arrival or departure by a few days or even a day can change availability and the discount offered.
This works best for military families with flexible leave or travel schedules.
Check Again Later
Discounted inventory can return when another guest modifies or cancels a reservation.
There is no guarantee a better rate will appear, but checking again can be worthwhile.
Compare a General Public Disney Offer
A general public Disney room discount can sometimes beat the Armed Forces Salute rate, especially when Disney offers only a reduced military percentage for your dates.
Check Disney General Public Room Discounts.
Compare Shades of Green
Shades of Green uses pay-grade-based room rates rather than Disney’s variable room-discount model.
Depending on your eligibility category, dates, and the Disney quote you receive, Shades of Green could provide a better overall value.
REALITY CHECK: The Armed Forces Salute label does not automatically make a Disney room the least expensive option. Compare the final price, including tax, against Shades of Green and current general public offers.

Use a Military-Specializing Travel Agent
A knowledgeable travel agent can check multiple resorts, room types, and date combinations without requiring you to repeatedly call Disney.
A travel agent can also continue watching for better availability or a stronger discount after the initial reservation is booked.
So skip the hold music and let our recommended Disney travel agent work their magic for you.

What’s Included and Excluded in 2026
The Armed Forces Salute room discount applies to eligible rooms at Disney Value, Moderate, Deluxe, and Deluxe Villa Resorts.
Disney excludes certain premium room types, including:
- Cabins at Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
- Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows
- 1-Bedroom and 2-Bedroom Villas at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows
- Penthouses at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows
- Suites at Moderate, Deluxe, and Deluxe Villa Resorts
- Club Level rooms
- 3-Bedroom Grand Villas
Confirm the current exclusions and availability when booking.
Important Armed Forces Salute Room Discount Rules
- Availability is limited and dynamic. The discount may not be available for your resort, room type, or dates
- The advertised percentage is a maximum. Your actual discount can be lower than the published “up to” amount
- Eligibility and military ID are required. The eligible service member or spouse must stay in the room, and valid military ID is checked at check-in
- Premium room types are excluded. Club Level rooms, suites, Bungalows, Grand Villas, and other listed premium accommodations do not qualify
- The offer can be booked as a package. Tickets and a dining plan can be added
- The Kids Free Dining Plan can be combined in 2026. The reservation must meet Disney’s package requirements
- Disney room discounts do not otherwise stack. Compare the Armed Forces Salute against current general public discounts and use the better eligible offer
Understanding Disney Vacation Packages
A Room Only reservation includes just your Disney Resort room.
A Disney vacation package is created by adding another eligible component to your room reservation. Depending on the promotion, that could include:
- A Disney Dining Plan
- Disney theme park tickets
- Both dining and tickets
- Occasionally another qualifying Disney package offer
Some Disney promotions, including the 2026 Kids Free Dining Plan offer, require your reservation to be booked as a qualifying Disney vacation package.
STEVE SAYS: First, understand what creates a Disney vacation package. A Room Only reservation includes just your resort room. A Disney vacation package is created by adding another qualifying component, such as a Disney Dining Plan, Disney theme park tickets, or another eligible package offer.
If you’re eligible for Disney military tickets, I do not recommend adding Disney’s regular theme park tickets to a Disney vacation package. Disney packages use Disney’s regular-priced tickets, while eligible military families can purchase Disney Armed Forces Salute Tickets or Disney Military Theme Park Tickets separately for significantly less.
If you’re taking advantage of the 2026 Kids Free Dining Plan promotion, add the dining offer—but buy your military-discounted theme park tickets separately. That approach results in the lowest overall vacation cost for eligible military families.

What to Expect When the New Salute Offer Is Announced
The first day of a new Disney Armed Forces Salute room offer can involve long phone waits, heavy demand, and limited availability at the most popular resorts.
Read What to Expect the Day Disney Announces the Disney Armed Forces Salute before calling.
STEVE EXPERIENCE: The sooner that you call (and get through) after Disney announces the Disney Armed Forces Salute, the better your chance of getting the best discount possible for your dates, resort, and room type. You can call yourself if you have the time to spend on hold, or coordinate ahead of time and let my recommended travel agent, The Mouse Experts, do it for you.
Bottom Line: How Disney’s Military Room Discount Really Works
The Disney Armed Forces Salute room discount is no longer a simple fixed percentage.
The published percentage is the highest discount Disney can offer during that travel window. Your actual discount depends on the remaining discounted inventory for your dates, resort, and room type when you book.
Two families can request the same vacation and receive dramatically different discounts simply because they booked at different times.
The best strategy is to:
- Book early
- Remain flexible about resorts and room types
- Check alternative dates
- Compare the final price against general public Disney offers
- Compare Disney against Shades of Green
- Keep checking if your first quote is disappointing
REALITY-FIRST GUIDANCE: Do not judge the offer only by Disney’s advertised maximum. Judge it by the actual price you are quoted and whether that price is the best available option for your family.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Disney guarantee the maximum Armed Forces Salute room discount?
No. Disney’s published percentage is the maximum discount available for that resort category and travel window. The actual discount can be lower depending on the remaining inventory for your dates, resort, and room type.
Why did someone else receive a better discount for the same room and dates?
The other guest may have booked when more deeply discounted military inventory was available. As reservations increase, Disney can reduce the percentage offered on the remaining rooms.
Can the military room discount disappear completely?
Yes. Once Disney’s discounted military inventory is exhausted for a resort, room type, or date, the Armed Forces Salute room discount is no longer offered for that selection.
Should I book as soon as the new Armed Forces Salute is announced?
Booking early provides the best opportunity to find your preferred resort, room type, and the strongest available discount. Availability is never guaranteed.
Can I change resorts to get a better military discount?
Yes. Another Disney Resort or room type may have more discounted inventory and a stronger percentage for the same dates.
Can a general public Disney discount beat the Armed Forces Salute?
Yes. A general public offer can produce a lower total price when Disney offers only a reduced Armed Forces Salute percentage for your dates or resort.
Can the 2026 military room discount be combined with Kids Free Dining?
Yes. Disney confirms that the 2026 Armed Forces Salute room discount can be combined with the Kids Free Dining Plan offer when booked as part of a qualifying Walt Disney Travel Company package.
Can other Disney room discounts be stacked with the Armed Forces Salute?
No. Disney room discounts do not otherwise stack. Compare the available offers and use the single eligible discount that produces the best price.

Steve,
Readers might find this helpful. I was quoted 30% off list price for Art of Animation Family Suite, 30% off for Fort Wilderness Cabins and 25% off Beach Club Standard Room today when I called an October 2021 booking.
Thanks for all the great info
Hi there Holly,
Thanks for sharing the intel!
I was able to book a Copper Creek Studio for less than a Garden Wing room the Contemporary due to the different discounts being offered at each resort. I was looking for the absolute lowest price that I could find on a Magic Kingdom area room based on initial rack rates. If looking for a good price, explore outside what might seem obvious. There might just be a deal lurking.
Wow Sarah,
That’s awesome!
Thanks for sharing the great advise.
I for one am thankful to Disney for discounting anything. Especially when they did not have to. If I get any discount this is money Disney at the end of the day is letting me keep. So you will NEVER hear me complain about any discount by Disney. Ever! Thank you Disney for all you do for the Military families.
Hi Steve,
I was hoping to plan a get-away for my daughter and I in November. After chatting with a cast member and putting in several dates at different resorts, I asked what the rate of the discount was. Evidently, it’s a standard 15% on value, 20% on moderate and 25% for deluxe – then decreases from there, depending on availability. I asked if she was certain about the rates because I could be flexible with both my resort selection and travel dates, but after checking with her manager she assured me that those were the top discounts being offered for the Salute program.
I was slightly disappointed when I heard this. Normally it’s a substantial savings but at the moment, they’re offering the same 20% discount to the general public. If anyone has gotten a better discount this year, please let me know how you did it….
Hi Christy,
Thanks so much for sending in the intel! I always urge people to be extremely cautious in taking anything Disney’s cast relates to them about the company’s military discounts as they are often wrong. They receive zero training, as evidenced by their having to put their heads together to figure out an explanation.
It may very well be that currently (or for Nov) those are the max percentages, but that could be driven by how full they are already, not an actual max.
Since Disney switched to the variable percentage in 2012, percentages have been all over the place. Some folks (very few) have even received better than the old 30,35,40%. Personally I’ve received 45%. It just depends on how booked they are already.
But sadly, sometimes the general public discount might be the better choice, if available.
I just booked for November this year and comparing the military discount vs booking it myself, I only got $80 discount for a 7 nights stay at POR. I was expecting more – like what we used to get. I was advised to keep an eye on their website for discounts though and I can call them anytime, and they will apply it to our room.
Hi Anne,
It’s a roll of the dice anymore as to the military discount amount on your dates.
Do watch for general public discounts for your dates to come out later in the year!
