  1. would this apply to my husband who did his 3 years in Navy? or does it have to be full 20 year retirement?

        • Hi Antonio,

Volume. There are 20 million living veterans vs only 4.2 million current and retired military. I don’t know the percentage of the 20 million that Universal thinks might go there, but it must be too large a population for their profit and loss calculations..

  2. I called the ITT office at NAS Jax to purchase tickets for 2017. Universal Studios Orlando still has not provided them the means to issue the tickets. Does anyone know where I can purchase the tickets right now? Shades of green…do they have the same buy 1 get 3 days? I’m just confused because gate prices are not 179.99… TIA!

  3. I’ll call Ft. Meade tomorrow and talk to rep who set up our trip.to see if ticket info has been released to them. Thank you Steve for the updates!!! I was so proud my buckeye alum child wanted Salute to Service camou sports gear for holiday and b day!!!! Excited for Wrestlemania!

  4. Hi Steve. My family is looking to go to Universal the third week of January. Our ITT office still says they have no idea when/if these tickets will be available (the buy 1 get 3 days). Have you gotten any updates on these? I see that your post says they will be released but we are getting down to crunch time so getting nervous!

  5. I just want to confirm that DOD civil service employees with a valod ID are eligible for this offer too correct?

    • Hi Donna,

From Universal’s email to me today: “Eligible: Active or Retired U.S. Military, the National Guard or Reservists and the U.S. Coast Guard who possess a valid military photo ID. Spouses of Eligible Service Members also qualify if they are able to present valid and active U.S. Military ID. Department of Defense employees with valid U.S. Military ID’s also qualify””

  6. A friend just recommended a Disney cruise to us when I said my next destination so glad I have this blog for “great” info.

A famous personality sent us on our first Disney trip(we were spoiled rotten) so excited to take my grandson after Universal Studios!

  7. How come I don’t see any discount offers for Disabled Veteran’s? Do we not receive any discounts?

  8. I’m active duty and am bringing five non-military ID friends with me to Universal Orlando. I bought six Universal salute tickets. My local ITT office said the Universal salute works the same as the Disney salute where the valid military ID holder (me) can purchase up to six tickets that can be used for non-military ID holders. But… Each Universal ticket I received has the name of my friend printed on it and each ticket says the guest must provide a matching military ID in order to obtain a ticket at the park. The ticket doesn’t say anything about an ID holder being able to purchase up to six tickets to include non-military ID holders. Are my non-military ID friends going to be able to use the tickets I bought when we all arrive there together and I’m the only one with a valid military ID?

    • Yes everything will be fine Taylor.

Odd that that is printed on the tickets, but the Universal offer has always worked just as the ITT described.

        • Hi Taylor. Have you gone to Universal yet? i am just wondering it you had any problems with the tickets for your non ID friends? I too am taking four non ID guest and would just like to know if you had any problems. Thank you.

          • There were no issues. I was with my friends at the ticket counter with my valid ID. Have a good time!

          • I got back a month ago today from our vacation. There is no problem with non ID members going. Just my dad showed his ID and I never even brought mine or my kid’s from the hotel.

  9. Hello, my son is a midshipman at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. We would like to go to Universal for his spring break in March, 2017 (family of 4). Would he qualify for the military discount? If so, what type of ID would be required? He does not officially have a military ID yet. He was sworn into the Navy this past summer. Thanks in advance for your help!

    • Hi Michelle,

Once he gets his Civil Service ID, if that is what he’ll be issued he will be eligible to purchase tickets at any base ticket office.

  10. Since my MD base still doesn’t know about the updated 2017 Universal Studios price list I just called SOG and the customer service by the Guest Services rep was EXCELLENT!! She emailed me the advanced ticket request form asap! I completed, attached a copy of my ID now waiting for response. THANK YOU SOG!

  11. My daughter has to go to universal for dance in June. We have to purchase tickets through the studio. So I’m just looking for hotel. I saw you had hotel rates but when I called I was quoted double what you have listed for Portifino Bay. Do I need to go to the travel on post to get these rates? Or is it high because I’m not getting the whole package? Is there a military rate for just unlimited fast passes?

    • Hi Jenny,

Those rates are for military packages only, which have the tickets with the room. I am now aware of any room only discounts. I would definitely check on post to see if they have any deals!

    • Hi Rita,

Yes, “Spouses of Eligible Service Members also qualify…”

The tickets may be used for whoever you like.

  12. I want to take my kids to universal, but I will be 8 months pregnant and don’t want to pay 200 dollars for a ticket when I can’t really do anything. Will they let my sister use my pass as long as I show them my ID at the gate?

    • Hi Emily,

      Congrats!

I would think not. The reason for offering the discount is not for you to get others in, which not having your own ticket would appear to be. They are for the member or spouse plus others.

  13. Can I get a military discount tickets at Universal Studios gate? Or do I have to buy them at a military installation? I will be travelling with my wife and stepdaughter but they don’t have an ID card yet. Could I get a discount tickets for them too?

    • Hi Rigoberto,

You’ll need to get these tickets on base as the details describe. Once you buy them you may use them for whomever you choose, IDs don’t matter.

    • None on that Jeff,

Currently, just the slight discount on tickets through your base ticket office, the 3 for 1 special deal, and the room/3 for 1 packages.

  14. Hi,

I just got off the phone with Shades of Green and they told me there is no longer a promotion for buy a 1-day park-to-park and get 2 days for free. Instead, it’s $180 for 2-park 3 day ticket. They said this sit hasn’t been updated. I’m hoping they are wrong…

    • Hi Rhonda,

They seem t be quibbling over the name and one cent on the price… I don’t get it. What is the issue/question?

  15. Hi Steve.

The military discount at Universal Studios is only 10% off.

The tickets are $263.58 for 2 day park to park; not $179.

Great blog! Thanks for all the tips!

    • Hi Christie,

      Thanks!

The tickets you are referring to are the regular military discounted tickets, not this special offer.

  16. If I buy the tickets but want to go in 2018 is that okay? They would be a family vacation that needs to be planned around a deployment. Do they expire before then?

  17. Does the military member have to be with the party every time they enter the parks or just the 1st time?

  18. Steve,
My base ITT just posted a pricing sheet that shows a military promotion for 4 day park to park hopper for Universal at $180.00. Curious if that is a change from the three day? I actually will only need two days but was not sure if this is all under the same promotion?

    • Hi Valerie,

Thanks for the heads up! I hadn’t heard of this yet, but with a little research I discovered this new promotional ticket is offered by some bases (Shades of Green is not advertising them yet). See this below from the Patrick ITT site:

New!! UNIVERSAL STUDIOS ORLANDO Military Promotion for 2017 features a 4-Day 2-PARK TO PARK ticket:
Adult, $179/Child,$174. No blackout dates! Also we will have a 4-Day 3-PARK TO PARK ticket: Adult $219/Child $214 that can be used starting with the opening date of Universal’s new Volcano Bay on May 25. Can be used until Dec 31, 2017.

      • These prices are really confusing me. They seem to be all over the place. The one link from FB had these:
        Ticket Prices:
        3 Day 2 Park ticket – $179 Adult / $173 Child (3-9 yrs.)
        3 Day 3 Park ticket – $219 Adult / $213 Child (3-9 yrs.)
        4 Day 2 Park ticket – $179 Adult / $174 Child (3-9 yrs.)
        4 Day 3 Park ticket – $179 Adult / $174 Child (3-9 yrs.)
Shades of Green has these tickets now!

The blog says 4 day 3 park to park $219 which is different and the price of the 3 Day 3 Park to Park.

Doesn’t make sense to me. The 4 day 3 park ticket is $179 but the the 3 Day 3 park is higher at $219????

When I was at SOG 2 weeks ago they confirmed that the 3 day 3 park would be $219 but didn’t have anything offering a 4 day. If there is a 4 Day 3 Park to Park for $179 or even $219 I would like to know as I need to change my resort reservation to reflect 1 extra night. I called US today and they had no information on a 4 day military ticket since you can’t buy from them but was told that if I want to add another night to my stay I would have to change rooms because my current room is sold out for the extra night. Was told to make a decision soon because room availability is limited for the extra night I would need. Of course, I can’t get SOG on the phone to confirm.

Can you verify which rate is correct? Is the 3 Day 3 Park to Park $219 and the 4 Day 3 Park to Park also $219 or is the price incorrect and higher? or is it indeed cheaper at $179. I’m just totally confused!

  19. Good morning Steve and again thank you for all your hard work. My question: Does Universal Hollywood offer any military discount ticket comparable to Orlando’s? Thank you in advance.

    • Hi Krissy,

Not that I am aware of. Last I checked there are just the slightly discounted tickets available at base ticket offices.

  20. Oh man. We just bought out tickets last month and they’re the 3 days. Do you think there’s any chance if the ITR or ticket window letting us exchange them for the 4 day version?

      • Just an update, if anyone bought the $179 tickets when they were still listed as 3 day park to parks, you can take your voucher to guest services right next to one of the park entrances and they’re more than happy to transfer it to the new 4 day military salute that’s also $179. We went the first week of May and it only took about 5 minutes. Happy travels!

  21. Good Morning Steve,
Thank for you service and amazing assistance. I would like to know where I can find Military rates for 2 park Universal and Island of Adventure Express Passes? Thank you

  22. Could you please provide name and address to whom a letter of questioning about military veterans not being eligible. It amazes how current eligible participants can purchase up to six tickets for non eligible guest(friends, strangers etc) and veterans can’t even receive a 10% discount. Thank you for your assistance

  23. I’m sorry if this has been asked before but are we able to purchase the 4day – 2 park tickets at Shades of Green? If so, do we have to be guests at Shades of Green to purchase the tickets?

    Thank you,
    Ashley

  24. Can someone explain how a combat veteran or even worse a disabled combat veteran without 100% service connection can not get a discount but an E1 private right out of basic or not evenout of basic can ???

    • Lou I can explain. It is just the same as when someone quits working for any company, they are no longer eligible for the discounts that the company negotiated for on behalf of its employees. Meanwhile those who do work there and retirees are eligible for the negotiated discounts.

  25. Shades of Green told me the 4 day 2 park and 4 day 3 park tickets can be used on any day before 12/31/17; that the “within 7 consecutive day” requirement does not apply to these tickets.

    Can anyone confirm this?

    • Hi Jeff,

What I posted is what Universal sent to me when the offer started. Perhaps they have changed the details since then.

  26. Hi, Have a quick question about the universal tickets. Is it allowed for my husband to purchase 6 tickets and for me to purchase an additonal 2 tickets we have 8 people in our family going . He has a retired military id and I have a spouse id we will both be there. I was not sure as we have a large family.

    • Hi Lynn,

I’m pretty sure that would not be allowed. Spouses are not listed as being eligible.

  27. Do you know when Universal has typically announced the extension of this offer? I was hoping to go in January 2018. We are also FL residents, but it seems this military offer beats that discount.

    • Hi LQ,

Every year I start pestering them in the fall, but they always seem to wait until January to announce… Early January the last 2 years, used to be mid to lat in the month.

Unfortunately, it will most likely have to be a last minute purchase for you.

    • I don’t know when they will announce , but I know that we got one heck of a Militaty package deal for Cabana Bay during Halloween in October. We saved 2000 off the regular prices that included tickets, fast passes , room in a family suite , transportation…. etc. Thank you Universal for these breaks and Steve for keeping us informed

  28. Hello,

I have read through all comments but did not see anything about 2018 prices coming out for Universal. Our family normally goes to Disney and I have read up on the fact that you are waiting for them to announce if the Salute specials will come back. How does Universal work? When do they announce if and when they will run a Salute special in 2018? Will there be hotel specials?

    • Hi Destiney,

Unfortunately Universal is simply awful about giving advance notice. We don’t usually hear until early January if they will be offering a ticket deal. (Just looked back it was 3 Jan this year)

The hotel and ticket combo packages have been constant and I recall we knew much earlier about those for this year, they just edited the dates and prices on their page for the packages

  29. Hi Rod,

No there are no exceptions. You’ll need to try to get your ticket office to let you use them towards the regular (more expensive) Disney military tickets.

  30. We’re looking into surprising our kids with a trip to Universal in December, so this is great news. Unfortunately, I have 6 children-5 will be going with us, so that makes us a party of 7. I know I can buy 8 Military Salute tickets as long as we purchase them at Disney. Will Universal offer the same thing?

    • Hi Abby,

I’m not aware of any similar program at Universal and you have to buy these at a military reseller prior to going to Universal. If you wait to ask till you get there and are told no you will miss out on buying the regular military discounted tickets. So look at those prices and decide if that amount of savings is worth rolling the dice.

  31. Does anyone know if this will be extended though 2018? We’ll be in Orlando in Jan and were thinking of going to Universal too.

  32. Hi Steve,

I am an Active military Foreign affiliate and have a cac Card with the blue banner. Am I eligible vor the Universal 2park4days Specials Tickets? My spouse has a “regular” spouse Card. Do you think that this may work?

    v/r
    Carsten

    • Hi Carsten,

Not that I’m aware of. Disney seems to be the only one that does this.

Check with your base ticket office on their thoughts. Realize though that they will only give you a voucher. Universal must check IDs for eligibility before issuing the real ticket.

  33. Have you used the military rate at one of Universal’s 3 premiere resorts in summer and if so, what types of rooms were you able to book? Do you know far in advance the military rate is typically available?

    Thanks!

    • Hi Trinity,

I have not, I’m not really that much of a Universal person. BUt if you contact my recommended travel agent Jen with the links at the end of the post she can answer those kinds of questions and help you make reservations at no additional charge.

  34. My little brother will be staying with us for the summer. We’re passholders so we don’t need tickets, but do you know if I’m able to buy this ticket for him to use? He’s 16 and we’re his guardians while my mom recovers from an intense round of chemo these next few months.

    • Hi Amanda,

Glad to offer advice, but you didn’t give me anyone’s status…

Are you military or civilian? Is he a military dependent or civilian? Is your mom the member or spouse or a civilian?
