There is no single best room at Shades of Green. The good news is that there really aren’t any bad room locations at Shades of Green. This guide is about choosing the room that best matches your priorities.

Shades of Green allows room requests when you reserve your room, but the most useful request is not simply “best room available.”

A better room request solves a real planning problem.

Do you want to be closer to the lobby? Closer to the parking garage? Near the pools? In the Palm Wing for the split bathroom layout? In a Poolside Room for easy swim breaks? Higher up for a better chance at fireworks?

This guide will help you decide what to request and how to think through the tradeoffs.

Room requests are not guaranteed, but Shades of Green will try to honor them when possible.

Start With the Decision, Not the Room Number

Before choosing a room number or wing, decide what matters most for your trip.

For many families, the best room request comes down to one main priority:

• Shortest walk to the lobby and buses
• Closest access to the parking garage
• Palm Wing split bathroom layout with double sinks
• Pool access
• Quieter surroundings
• Best chance at fireworks views
• Convenience with young children
• Easy access to Evergreens
• Mobility needs
• Connecting rooms

Once you know what you are trying to improve, your room request becomes much more useful.

Steve Says: I would not request a room just because someone online says it is “the best.” I would request a room because it solves something specific for my family. That might be walking distance, bathroom layout, parking, pool access, or daily routine.

Understanding the Two Guest Wings

Shades of Green has two guest room wings: the Magnolia Wing and the Palm Wing.

Magnolia Wing

The Magnolia Wing is the original guest wing. It has three floors and is near both pools. The second floor is level with the lobby, so you go down to the first floor or up to the third.

The Magnolia Wing has views of the Magnolia Golf Course, the resort pools, resort greenery, or the central green space between the two wings.

Magnolia Wing room numbers have three digits.

The Magnolia Wing has 301 rooms arranged in a compact, squared-off Y layout. Even the farther rooms do not feel as far away as they would in one long straight hallway.

Magnolia Wing Standard and Poolside Rooms have the traditional single-room bathroom with one sink. All Poolside Rooms are also located in the Magnolia Wing.

Magnolia Wing is best if you want:

• Closer pool access
• Poolside Room option
• Access to Evergreens
• Convenience with young children
• Shorter walks within the wing
• Magnolia Pool or Mill Pond Pool proximity

Palm Wing

The Palm Wing was added during the 2002-2004 expansion. It has five floors and is closest to the parking garage. A bank of three elevators is located near the parking garage and relatively close to the lobby.

The Palm Wing has views of the Palm Golf Course or the central green space between the wings. A few rooms have a parking garage view.

Palm Wing room numbers have four digits.

The Palm Wing has 285 rooms arranged in a stretched T-shaped layout. Some rooms at the far end of the long hallway feel very far away after a full park day.

Palm Wing Standard Rooms have the split bathroom layout with the toilet and shower in one room and a separate double-sink vanity area.

Palm Wing is best if you want:

• Split bathroom layout with double sinks
• Parking garage convenience
• Closest rooms to the lobby
• Palm Golf Course views
• Most suite locations

Best Room Requests by Priority

If You Want to Be Close to the Lobby

Being close to the lobby puts you near the AAFES General Store, Attraction Ticket Office, bus stop, and many of the dining locations.

The closest rooms to the lobby are in the Palm Wing, rooms X101-X106. Substitute the floor number for X.

For example, 2101-2106 would be on the second floor, while 4101-4106 would be on the fourth floor.

The walk matters more than many first-time guests realize. From the bus stop to the far end of the Palm Wing is about 0.17 miles. From the bus stop to the far end of the Magnolia Wing is about 0.23 miles.

That may not sound far until you are walking back after 10 to 12 hours in the parks.

If You Drive Often

If you plan to use your car regularly, request the Palm Wing near the parking garage.

Good request ranges include Palm Wing rooms X101-X110 and X142-X152.

This is especially helpful if you plan to drive to the theme parks, visit other Central Florida destinations, make grocery runs, or use your car instead of relying on resort transportation.

If You Want the Split Bathroom Layout

Request the Palm Wing.

Palm Wing Standard Rooms have a split bathroom layout with the toilet and shower in one room and a separate double-sink vanity area. This is one of the best requests for families with multiple people getting ready at the same time.

Steve Says: If bathroom layout matters to your family, this is one of the most practical room requests you can make. The split bathroom with double sinks can make mornings much easier.

If You Want Pool Access Without Booking Poolside

Request the Magnolia Wing near the pool areas.

This can be a good compromise if you want to be near the pools but do not want to pay for a Poolside Room or prefer a balcony instead of a first-floor patio.

You can request a room near one of the Magnolia Wing elevators, near the external stairways, or near the specific pool area your family expects to use most.

If You Want a Poolside Room

Poolside Rooms are an upgraded room type, not just a request. These rooms are all on the first floor of the Magnolia Wing and face either the Magnolia Pool or the Mill Pond Pool.

The rooms themselves are identical to Standard Rooms. You are paying for location.

For the best balance of convenience, privacy, and pool access, I like Mill Pond Poolside rooms 139-144.

For a quieter Poolside stay closer to the lobby, I would look at Magnolia Poolside rooms 101-113.

If You Want a Quieter Room

Quiet room requests are tricky because noise depends on other guests, hallway behavior, pool activity, connecting doors, and your exact location.

A more useful request is to avoid the main traffic patterns.

Consider requesting:

• Away from elevators
• Away from external stairs
• Away from pool activity
• Golf course view
• Upper floor

Do not simply request “quiet room” and assume that will be specific enough. Explain what kind of noise you are trying to avoid.

If You Want a Fireworks View

Shades of Green is close enough to Magic Kingdom that some rooms can see fireworks over the trees, but this is not a resort where I would make fireworks view your top priority.

Magic Kingdom fireworks are about 1.75 miles away from Shades of Green. Mature trees around the resort can partially or fully block the view.

If you want the best chance, request a Magnolia Wing third-floor room or a Palm Wing fifth-floor room facing toward Magic Kingdom.

If the view matters more than the room itself, the top level of the parking garage or the grassy area between the Magnolia Pool and Magnolia Golf Course clubhouse can be better places to watch.

 

On the room map below, rooms highlighted in red likely have a better chance at fireworks views, while rooms in orange likely have partially obstructed views.

If You Need Connecting Rooms

Connecting rooms are one of the most common room requests at Shades of Green.

This is a useful request if you have a party larger than five, multiple families traveling together, grandparents traveling with children and grandchildren, or relatives who want nearby access while keeping separate rooms.

Connecting rooms are not guaranteed. Make the request when booking, then confirm it again before arrival.

If You Need an ADA Room With Roll-In Shower

ADA rooms with roll-in showers can be requested at no extra charge.

If this is a true accessibility need, make the request clearly when booking and confirm it directly with Shades of Green.

If You Want a Suite

Suites are an upgraded room type, not a standard room request.

There are very few suites at Shades of Green, and they reserve quickly. If you want a suite, book as soon as your dates are firm and the reservation window opens.

Most suites are located in the Palm Wing. The Magnolia Suite is the exception.

Room Requests I Would Not Make

Some requests sound helpful but are too vague to be useful.

I would avoid requests like:

• Best room available
• Good view
• Quiet room
• Close to everything
• Nice room
• Most convenient room

Those requests depend too much on personal interpretation.

Better requests are specific:

• Palm Wing near the lobby
• Palm Wing room with split bathroom layout
• Palm Wing near the lobby with split bathroom
• Magnolia Wing near Mill Pond Pool but not Poolside
• Poolside Room near Magnolia Pool
• Mill Pond Poolside rooms 139-144 if available
• Away from elevators and external stairs
• Connecting rooms for two families traveling together

Mill Pond Poolside rooms 139-144

These are my favorite Poolside Rooms because they balance pool access, privacy, and convenience.

Best Request for a Quieter Poolside Stay

Magnolia Poolside rooms 101-113

These rooms are closer to the lobby and face the quieter pool area.

Best Request for Drivers

Palm Wing near the parking garage

This is the request I would make if I planned to drive frequently during the trip.
