Disneyland's Pixar Place Hotel

All three put you within walking distance of Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney, but they offer very different experiences.

The biggest differences are straightforward: as you move from Pixar Place to Disneyland Hotel to Grand Californian, the price increases, the location improves, and the selection of resort amenities—especially dining—gets stronger.

Quick answer: Pixar Place Hotel is the least expensive Disney-owned hotel and gives you the Disney bubble at the lowest price. Disneyland Hotel costs more but offers a major upgrade in atmosphere, dining, pools, and location. Grand Californian is the most expensive and gives you the best overall location, direct access to Disney California Adventure, the strongest dining lineup, and the most complete resort experience.

Hotel Price Level Biggest Strength Best Fit
Pixar Place Hotel Least Expensive Lowest-cost Disney-owned option Guests who want the Disney bubble while controlling hotel cost
Disneyland Hotel Middle Classic Disneyland atmosphere and strong resort amenities Guests who want the best balance of Disney atmosphere, location, and amenities
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa Most Expensive Best location and most complete resort experience Guests willing to pay more for maximum convenience and amenities

Why Stay at a Disneyland Resort Hotel?

At Walt Disney World, staying on Disney property can dramatically change your transportation options.

Disneyland is different.

There are many off-property hotels within walking distance of the theme parks, including some directly across the street from the resort.

That means staying at a Disney-owned hotel is not primarily about avoiding a car or hotel shuttle. It is about staying in the Disney bubble.

We’ve stayed both on property and off at Disneyland.

Off-property hotels can work very well, and they can save you a lot of money. The tradeoff is usually a 10- to 20-minute walk at the beginning and end of the park day, depending on where you stay.

That walk can feel much longer at night after a full park day and can also make a midday hotel break less appealing.

Staying at one of the Disneyland Resort hotels keeps you immersed in Disney throughout the trip and makes it easier to move between your room, the parks, Downtown Disney, dining, and the resort pools.

What All Three Disneyland Resort Hotels Have in Common

Guests at all three have:

  • Walking access to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure
  • Convenient access to Downtown Disney
  • Disney-owned hotel theming and service
  • On-site dining
  • On-property room charging privileges
  • Pool and recreation areas
  • Club-level accommodations in select room categories
  • Suites and larger accommodations
  • In-room refrigerator, coffee maker, safe, and Wi-Fi
  • Access to current Disneyland Resort hotel guest benefits

Disneyland Resort Hotel Guest Benefits

One of the biggest changes from older Disneyland Resort hotel information is that Early Entry ended January 5, 2026.

Disneyland Resort hotel guests now receive one entry to one eligible Lightning Lane Multi Pass attraction at either park on one day of the hotel stay.

This is not a full Lightning Lane Multi Pass purchase. It is one eligible attraction entry for each registered hotel guest age 3 and older on the reservation.

Hotel guests also receive preferred access to reservations at select Disneyland Resort hotel table-service restaurants during their stay.

Other benefits include Disney-themed accommodations and pools, convenient park access, and access to resort activities and amenities.

Getting to the Parks From the Three Disneyland Resort Hotels

All three hotels are walkable, but the experience is not the same.

The Main Entrances

For your first visit to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, I recommend using the main entrances.

There is something special about walking through the Esplanade and entering Disneyland beneath the railroad station or approaching Disney California Adventure through its main gate.

After you’ve experienced those entrances, the alternate access points can be extremely useful.

Disneyland Park: The Downtown Disney Monorail

The Downtown Disney Monorail station serves as a practical secondary Disneyland Park entrance for guests at all three hotels.

It is closest to Disneyland Hotel, almost as close to Grand Californian, and directly along the route Pixar Place guests use when walking toward the main entrances.

Instead of entering Disneyland at Main Street, U.S.A., the Monorail drops you inside Tomorrowland.

Disney California Adventure: Grand Californian Entrance

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa has a dedicated entrance directly into Disney California Adventure.

Pixar Place Hotel guests can also use this entrance.

That restores an access pattern longtime visitors may remember from the former Paradise Pier Hotel era: Pixar Place guests walk across Disneyland Drive, enter the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, and then enter Disney California Adventure through the Grand Californian entrance.

This can be especially convenient when returning to the hotel during the day or leaving Disney California Adventure at night.

Pixar Place Hotel

Pixar Place Hotel at Disneyland Resort

Pixar Place Hotel is the least expensive of the three Disneyland Resort hotels.

It is the former Paradise Pier Hotel, completely transformed around the films and characters of Pixar Animation Studios.

The hotel is a single tower located across Disneyland Drive from the main Disneyland Resort property.

What Sets Pixar Place Apart

Pixar Place is the best choice if staying in the Disney bubble matters to you, but you want to keep the hotel cost as low as possible.

Its biggest advantages include:

  • The lowest price of the three Disney-owned hotels
  • Extensive Pixar theming throughout the hotel
  • Access to Disney California Adventure through Grand Californian
  • Rooftop pool deck and recreation area
  • Fireworks viewing from the pool deck on select nights
  • Creators Club for Club-Level guests

Dining is much better than it was during the Paradise Pier years.

Current options include:

  • Great Maple Modern American Eatery
  • The Sketch Pad Café
  • Small Bytes on the pool deck

Still, the overall dining and resort-amenity selection remains smaller than what you’ll find at Disneyland Hotel or Grand Californian.

Location

Pixar Place is the farthest of the three hotels from the main park entrances.

Guests can walk across Disneyland Drive, enter the Grand Californian, and use the Grand Californian entrance into Disney California Adventure. The walk toward the Esplanade passes through Downtown Disney and by the Monorail station.

The difference is most noticeable when you’re comparing it directly with the other two Disney hotels rather than with many off-property hotels.

Military Discount

Pixar Place participates in the Disneyland Resort Armed Forces Salute room offer.

Eligible military guests can save up to 30%, subject to availability.

Read our complete guide to Disney Armed Forces Salute room discounts.

Who Should Choose Pixar Place?

Choose Pixar Place if you:

  • Want the least expensive Disney-owned Disneyland hotel
  • Enjoy Pixar theming
  • Want access to Disney hotel benefits without paying Disneyland Hotel or Grand Californian prices
  • Don’t need the broadest dining or resort-amenity selection

Read our complete Pixar Place Hotel guide

Disneyland Hotel

Disneyland Hotel at Disneyland Resort

The Disneyland Hotel

Disneyland Hotel is the middle-priced option of the three.

For me, it also occupies the sweet spot in the lineup.

It gives you a substantial upgrade in atmosphere, dining, pools, and location over Pixar Place without reaching the premium price of Grand Californian.

What Sets Disneyland Hotel Apart

Disneyland Hotel is deeply connected to Disneyland history.

The current hotel is modern, but the resort celebrates Disneyland’s past throughout its towers, artwork, décor, dining, and recreation areas.

Current dining includes:

  • Goofy’s Kitchen
  • Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar
  • Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill
  • Broken Spell Lounge
  • The Coffee House
  • In-room dining

The Villas at Disneyland Hotel also add Palm Breeze Bar and Disney Vacation Club accommodations to the overall resort complex.

The pool area is another major advantage, with its distinctive Monorail waterslides and expanded recreation areas.

Location

Disneyland Hotel sits directly at the end of Downtown Disney.

The Downtown Disney Monorail station is nearby and can be used as an alternate Disneyland Park entrance.

You can also simply walk through Downtown Disney to the Esplanade and use the main park entrances.

Grand Californian is closer to Disney California Adventure, but Disneyland Hotel remains very convenient to both parks.

STEVE SAYS: Of the three Disneyland Resort hotels, the Disneyland Hotel remains my favorite. It was the original Disneyland hotel, and to me it still has the most magical Disney atmosphere. Grand Californian has the better location, and we had an excellent DVC stay there last summer, but Disneyland Hotel gives you a big step up from Pixar Place in amenities and location while still feeling uniquely Disneyland.

Military Discount

Disneyland Hotel participates in the Disneyland Resort Armed Forces Salute room offer.

Eligible military guests can save up to 35%, subject to availability.

See our full military room-discount guide.

Who Should Choose Disneyland Hotel?

Choose Disneyland Hotel if you:

  • Want the strongest classic Disneyland atmosphere
  • Want a significant amenities upgrade from Pixar Place
  • Value the Downtown Disney location and easy Monorail access
  • Want strong dining without paying Grand Californian prices
  • Plan to spend meaningful time enjoying the resort itself

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

Disneyland's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

Disneyland’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is the most expensive Disneyland Resort hotel.

It also gives you the best overall location and the most complete resort experience.

The Arts and Crafts-inspired hotel sits between Downtown Disney and Disney California Adventure, putting guests directly in the center of the Disneyland Resort.

What Sets Grand Californian Apart

Current dining includes:

  • Napa Rose
  • Storytellers Cafe
  • Hearthstone Lounge
  • GCH Craftsman Grill
  • GCH Craftsman Bar
  • In-room dining

The hotel also offers:

  • Three swimming pools
  • Tenaya Stone Spa
  • Direct Disney California Adventure access
  • Immediate access to Downtown Disney
  • Disney Vacation Club accommodations at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

Location

This is where Grand Californian earns much of its premium.

You can walk directly from the hotel into Disney California Adventure.

Downtown Disney is immediately outside the hotel.

The main park entrances are also a short walk away, and the Downtown Disney Monorail station provides another convenient way to enter Disneyland Park.

That combination makes Grand Californian especially valuable if you like returning to your room during the day.

Military Discount

Grand Californian participates in the Disneyland Resort Armed Forces Salute room offer.

Eligible military guests can save up to 40%, subject to availability.

Some higher-end room categories are excluded from the military offer, including select Concierge rooms, Signature or Premium suites, and 2- and 3-Bedroom Villas.

See our complete Disneyland military room-discount guide.

Who Should Choose Grand Californian?

Choose Grand Californian if you:

  • Place the highest value on park access and location
  • Want the strongest dining selection
  • Want a full-service resort experience
  • Value a spa and broader resort amenities
  • Expect to take midday breaks
  • Are comfortable paying the highest price of the three Disney-owned hotels

Read our complete Grand Californian Hotel & Spa guide

Dining Differences Matter

At Disneyland, you are never far from Downtown Disney or park dining, so you do not have to choose a hotel solely for its restaurants.

But hotel dining matters more when you’re taking a break, spending time at the pool, arriving late, or planning a resort-focused evening.

Pixar Place has improved dramatically with Great Maple, Sketch Pad Café, and Small Bytes.

Disneyland Hotel offers more variety and some of Disneyland Resort’s most distinctive destinations, particularly Trader Sam’s and Goofy’s Kitchen.

Grand Californian has the deepest lineup, ranging from quick service and lounges to Storytellers Cafe and signature dining at Napa Rose.

Pools and Resort Time

If you plan to use your hotel mainly as a place to sleep, the differences in pools and recreation may not matter much.

If you want a resort day or regular midday breaks, they become much more important.

Pixar Place has a rooftop pool deck with Pixar theming and select-night fireworks viewing.

Disneyland Hotel offers the iconic Monorail waterslides and a larger resort recreation environment.

Grand Californian has three pools and Tenaya Stone Spa, giving it the strongest overall resort-recreation package.

Parking at Disneyland Resort Hotels

Parking is no longer the inexpensive add-on it was when this page was originally written.

Registered hotel guests currently pay:

  • $45 plus tax per night for self-parking
  • $75 plus tax per night for valet parking where available

Valet parking is available at Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian.

Pixar Place only offers self-parking.

If you need a car during your Disneyland trip, parking costs are worth considering when comparing the total cost of staying on property.

Military Discounts at Disneyland Resort Hotels

All three Disneyland Resort hotels participate in the current Disney Armed Forces Salute room offer.

For 2026, the maximum discounts are:

Hotel 2026 Military Discount
Pixar Place Hotel Up to 30%
Disneyland Hotel Up to 35%
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa Up to 40%

The important words are up to.

Discounted rooms are limited, and Disneyland military room discounts work on a sliding availability basis.

As discounted inventory fills, the available percentage can decrease or disappear entirely for a particular hotel, date, or room type.

The eligible service member or spouse must stay in the room, and the offer is limited to two rooms.

Some higher-end accommodations are excluded.

Read our guide on How Disney Military Room Discounts Work.

Disney Vacation Club at Disneyland Resort

Two of the three Disneyland Resort hotels also include Disney Vacation Club accommodations.

Disneyland Hotel is home to The Villas at Disneyland Hotel.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa includes The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.

These DVC accommodations give members and guests additional room types beyond the standard hotel inventory.

Pixar Place Hotel does not have a Disney Vacation Club component.

Bottom Line

The three Disneyland Resort hotels form a clear progression.

Pixar Place Hotel gives you the Disney bubble at the lowest price.

Disneyland Hotel adds a better location, significantly stronger amenities, and the most classic Disneyland atmosphere.

Grand Californian costs the most but provides the best park access and the most complete resort experience.

You do not need to stay at a Disney-owned hotel to have a convenient Disneyland vacation.

But if staying immersed in Disney from the time you wake up until the time you return to your room matters to you, that is where these three hotels earn their premium.

      Hi Francis,

There is no Shades of Green equivalent at the Disneyland Resort.

Disney offers discounts on rooms via the Disney Armed Forces Salute, see https://www.militarydisneytips.com/blog/the-disney-armed-forces-salute-military-ticket-and-room-discounts/

I was just wondering what the best way is to make reservations for a resort and tickets with the military discount? Can you make resort reservations through your local MWR or do you have to contact someone else through Disney?

      Hi Courtney,

      Good Question.

Tickets you’ll get yourself from a Base Ticket office. See: https://www.militarydisneytips.com/blog/disney-military-discounts/where-to-buy-military-disney-tickets/

Some Bases have a Travel Office, with a travel agent. I’ve never used one of these, but some do. In my opinion, knowledge level would be hit or miss… You just never know.

You can call Disney yourself for the room (you can’t do it online).

Or you can use a Disney specializing Travel Agent, I recommend Ears of Experience.
