Shades of Green Is Adding Dog-Friendly Rooms Beginning November 1, 2026
Shades of Green is adding a limited number of dog-friendly guest rooms beginning November 1, 2026.
The new option will allow eligible guests to bring up to two dogs when staying at Shades of Green, but these rooms will work differently from a normal reservation.
Dog-friendly rooms must be reserved in advance through the Shades of Green Vacation Planning Center at 888-593-2242, and cannot be booked online.
How Shades of Green’s Dog-Friendly Rooms Will Work
Shades of Green says only a limited number of rooms will be converted to dog-friendly accommodations.
Guests staying in one of these rooms may bring a maximum of two dogs.
One particularly important rule is that the dogs count toward the room’s total occupancy.
For example, a room that normally accommodates five occupants could be used by:
- Four people and one dog
- Three people and two dogs
That could matter for larger military families that normally rely on Shades of Green’s generous room capacity.
How to Book a Dog-Friendly Room at Shades of Green
You will not be able to select a dog-friendly room through the normal Shades of Green online reservation system.
Reservations must be made in advance through the Shades of Green Vacation Planning Center.
Because the number of participating rooms will be limited, this is something I would arrange when booking rather than waiting until check-in to ask whether a dog can be added to the reservation.
Where Dogs Will Be Allowed at Shades of Green
Dogs must remain on a leash whenever they are outside the guest room.
Shades of Green specifically says dogs will not be allowed at:
- Pools
- Splash pad
- Spa
- Restaurants
Guests are also responsible for any damage caused by their dogs.
This is a pet-dog policy. Service animals are handled separately and should not be confused with the new dog-friendly room program.
My Main Question Is How the Rooms Will Be Cleaned Between Guests
The part of the new program I will be watching most closely is how Shades of Green handles these rooms between stays.
Pets introduce a different cleaning requirement than ordinary hotel-room turnover, particularly for guests with dog allergies.
Shades of Green says these will be designated dog-friendly rooms, which should help keep the pet inventory separated from the rest of the resort.
But the details of that separation and the cleaning process will matter.
Will Dog-Friendly Rooms Be Kept Separate From Other Rooms?
Shades of Green describes the new accommodations as a limited number of rooms being converted specifically for guests traveling with dogs.
That suggests these will be designated dog-friendly rooms rather than dogs being permitted throughout the resort’s entire room inventory.
However, the announcement does not explain whether those rooms will be used solely for guests with dogs, concentrated in a particular section of the resort, or scattered among regular rooms.
That is worth knowing for two groups of guests:
- Guests with allergies or other reasons for avoiding rooms previously occupied by pets
- Guests traveling with dogs who want to understand where they may be staying
I would like to see Shades of Green make the room-location and cleaning procedures clear once the program begins.
Dog-Friendly Rooms Are a Significant Change for Shades of Green
Until now, Shades of Green’s normal policy has prohibited pets other than service animals.
The new dog-friendly rooms therefore represent a meaningful change in how the resort operates.
For military families who travel with dogs, it eliminates a major obstacle to staying at Shades of Green.
Instead of finding a kennel, arranging pet care at home, or choosing another Orlando hotel that accepts dogs, eligible guests will now have an option directly at Shades of Green.
At the same time, restricting dogs from pools, the splash pad, spa, and restaurants should reduce the impact on guests who are not traveling with pets.
Should You Book a Dog-Friendly Room?
If bringing your dog is what makes a Shades of Green vacation possible, this new option could be extremely useful.
Just remember that the reservation works differently from a regular Shades of Green booking.
You will need to:
- Reserve a designated dog-friendly room in advance
- Call the Vacation Planning Center at 888-593-2242, rather than book online
- Include each dog when calculating room occupancy
- Keep your dog leashed outside the room
- Keep dogs out of restricted resort areas
- Accept responsibility for any damage caused by your dog
And because the participating room inventory is limited, I would not assume a dog-friendly room will be available just because a normal Shades of Green room is available for your dates.
Questions Shades of Green Still Needs to Answer
The announcement gives us the basic rules for the new dog-friendly room program, but there are still several practical questions I would like Shades of Green to clarify:
- How many dog-friendly rooms will be available?
- Will Poolside Rooms be included?
- Will any of the suites be dog-friendly?
- Will these rooms be used exclusively for guests traveling with dogs, or could a guest without a dog later be assigned one?
- Will the dog-friendly rooms be grouped in one part of the resort or scattered throughout both wings?
- What additional cleaning will be performed after a dog stays in the room, particularly for guests with allergies?
- Will Shades of Green provide designated dog-relief areas, or will dogs be allowed to use appropriate grassy areas throughout the property?
- Can dogs be left unattended in the room, and if so, will they need to be crated?
- How will housekeeping service work when a dog is in the room?
- Will there be any breed, size, vaccination, or other health requirements?
- How will excessive barking or other noise complaints be handled?
Shades of Green says a pet waiver is still coming, so some of these details may be addressed before the program begins November 1. I’ll update this page as more information becomes available.
Bottom Line
Beginning November 1, 2026, Shades of Green will offer a limited number of dog-friendly rooms for guests traveling with up to two dogs.
Reservations must be made in advance through the Vacation Planning Center, dogs count toward the room occupancy limit, and several resort areas—including restaurants and pools—remain off limits to pets.
For military families who travel with dogs, this creates an entirely new way to stay at Shades of Green.
The biggest unanswered questions are how the designated rooms will be distributed around the resort and exactly how they will be cleaned between guests.
Those are details I’ll be watching as the new program begins.
