Recently Shades of Green the military owned and operated resort on Walt Disney World property, instituted a new security procedure on it’s busses.
All adults returning to Shades of Green via their fleet of busses will have to show either a military ID or their Shades room key or resort ID along with a photo ID card; military ID cards are preferred.
Day use of the resort and its amenities-such as the spa, restaurants, tickets, and AAFES- is still allowed and encouraged by those eligible to stay at Shades (but not staying there).
Shades of Green notes that an ID check for the walking path onto Shades of Green property will be started in the near future.
They also said that the motivation for these decisions has been and always will be to maintain the safety of the Shades of Green guests and employees. The safety of you and your family is always their priority.

can Canadian military yet the same discount as the u.s military ?
Hi eileen,
Thanks for checking out the site!
The only 2 discounts for non-US military are: http://www.militarydisneytips.com/blog/shades-of-green/non-us-military-members-eligible-to-stay-at-shades-of-green/ & http://www.militarydisneytips.com/Disney-Armed-Forces-Salute.html
But both are for those serving with US forces and require a US issued ID like the one at the bottom left of this page: http://www.cac.mil/common-access-card/
Hello,
My husband is in the Canadian air force and before the air force he was in the army for 17 years. We are planning on going to Orlando with our two children. Ages 11 and 14. We are looking at saving money, so we can do this trip, does shades of green help Canadian military with discounts and affordable places to stay?
Hi Stephanie,
The only non-US forces which qualify for a Shades are those currently serving with US Forces who have a US issued ID.
Im planning too bring my grandson and his mother to Orlando. They both don’t have a Military ID card. Can they stay with me at Shade of Green even they don’t have a military ID card?
They certainly can Matthew, though you’ll need yours of course.
Is this offer only for active or does it include retired US military
Hi CHris,
Sorry, but what offer are you referring to? I’d be glad to help but, this post is about ID checks at Shades of Green.
Will my VA card be sufficient as a military ID?
No Chris, sorry but a VA card is not a military ID.
Please see the ID guide here: http://www.militarydisneytips.com/Disney-World-Military-Discount-ID-Guide.html
Do DOD federal employees qualify for shades of green stay?
Yes they sure are Charnetta
See: http://www.militarydisneytips.com/Shades-of-Green/Shades-of-Green-Eligibility.html
I am AF retired with DoD ID Card. I am getting married only a few days prior to our planned visit to DW. My “new” spouse will not have a DoD ID card at our planned arrival….is that a problem?
Hi Duane,
No, no problem at all. You will be given paper resort IDs at check in which your bride can use if you are separated.
I would like to plan a Disney trip this year for my family but my husband (military) isn’t sure if he can go due to the crowd. Am I able to take our kids without him being there with his ID? Myself and my children have a dependent ID but wasn’t sure if they would allow us to use that.
Hi there Katie,
You may take the kids with your own ID. Spouses are eligible.
Hi,
My two sons each have dependent military IDs. (Service Status on their IDs is: USA/TDRL) as their father is retired Army. I, myself do not have and ID due to their father I being divorced. We have a planned trip to WDW, staying at resort on Disney and are interested in 5 military discount WDW 4-day hopper tickets. Would we be eligible for the military discount price?
Thank you for any information you can give me regarding this.
Tracy L.
Hi there Tracy,
Unfortunately non-spouse dependents are not eligible for the Disney Armed Forces Salute.
But they can buy the slightly discounted Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way tickets from Shades of Green or Base ticket offices.
See: http://www.militarydisneytips.com/blog/disney-military-discounts/regular-disney-military-discount-for-walt-disney-world-and-disneyland-tickets/
Can our non-military guests (staying with us at shades of green) use the restaurants if we are not there with them with our military ID’s?
Yes they sure can Juliemom. The only thing they cannot do is purchase alcohol or tobacco in the AAFES Store.
Thank you so much!
Is my US DOD Civilian CAC sufficient ID to use for the Shades of Green Resort?
Yes it sure is Chris!
If I have a non military guest spending time with me during the day, can they use amenities like the pool/restaurants without me being there?
Hi Heather,
Yes this will be no problem. You do not need to accompany them at all times. below are Shades’ rules for sponsored guests. The pertinent ones would be the second and last.
You are a registered guest at Shades of Green
You agree to be responsible for your guests
You must accompany your guest at time of check in. Sponsored guest will not be authorized to check in without the sponsor being present
Sponsored guest reservations must check in on the same day and must depart before or on the same day as your reservation
You accompany your guests while purchasing attraction tickets
Your guests must follow the rules of the resort
I am a combat vet from the Vietnam era. I have a DD214. Do I qualify to stay at Shades of Green?
Hi there Larry,
Thanks for your service!
There are no discounts available directly from Disney for your situation.
Shades of Green opens it’s doors to non-retired vets (with DD-214s) only during the months of January and September. Here is my post with details: http://www.militarydisneytips.com/Shades-of-Green/Non-Retired-Veterans.html
I am planning a trip for my family in October, I’m a VA nurse. Would we be eligible for shades of green and ticket discounts?
Not unless you (or a friend going with you) fall into one of their eligibility categories Tobie.
My Mom and Dad wish to go visit Disney in Oct. Both my husband and I have retired DOD id’s. Can they stay at the Shades of Green resort?
Hi Cleo,
You can sponsor anyone to stay at Shades of Green at the same time that you are.
See: https://www.militarydisneytips.com/blog/shades-of-green/sponsoring-guests-at-shades-of-green/
They cannot however go without you.
I wasn’t sure from your question which you were trying to ask about.
