Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets brings The Electric Mayhem—and plenty of Muppet chaos—to one of Walt Disney World’s most intense thrill rides.

The attraction opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 26, 2026, replacing the former Aerosmith version while retaining the indoor launched roller coaster that guests have ridden since 1999.

This is not a gentle new Muppet attraction. The coaster still launches riders from zero to 60 miles per hour, sends them through three inversions, and races through a darkened indoor environment with loud music playing through the ride vehicle.

What changed is nearly everything surrounding that track: the story, preshow, soundtrack, visual effects, queue details, exterior, and overall personality.

The result is a familiar thrill ride rebuilt around The Electric Mayhem, Scooter, Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the wonderfully disorganized world of The Muppets.

STEVE’S REVIEW NOTE: I have not ridden the Muppet version yet. This guide is based on Disney’s official attraction information and opening materials and my previous experience with the Aerosmith version. I will add my firsthand impressions and comparison with the Aerosmith version after experiencing it.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is located at the end of Sunset Boulevard near The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

The attraction entrance remains in the former G-Force Records complex, now reimagined as the recording studio where The Electric Mayhem is rehearsing.

This makes the two Sunset Boulevard thrill rides easy to experience together, although both can develop substantial waits.

The New Story

Guests enter G-Force Records for a VIP tour of The Muppets’ recording studio.

There is just one problem: The Electric Mayhem is still jamming in the studio even though the band is supposed to be performing at a concert across Hollywood.

Scooter, the band’s manager, is trying to get Dr. Teeth, Animal, Janice, Floyd Pepper, Zoot, and Lips out of the studio and onto the stage. Kermit, Miss Piggy, and other familiar Muppets become involved as the situation grows increasingly chaotic.

Guests are recruited to join the band and travel across town in a super-powered limousine developed with help from Muppet Labs.

Disney has appropriately named this vehicle the Lengthy Immediate Motion Object—or L.I.M.O.

You board the limousine, experience the attraction’s powerful launch, and race past Muppet-inspired Hollywood landmarks while trying to reach the concert before it is too late.

What Changed from the Aerosmith Version?

The physical roller coaster and basic limousine ride vehicles remain, but the surrounding experience has been extensively rethemed.

Major changes include:

• The Electric Mayhem has replaced Aerosmith as the attraction’s featured band.
• Scooter and Muppet penguin audio engineers lead the new preshow.
• The recording-studio story now centers on getting the late-running band to its concert.
• The queue contains new Muppet props, displays, videos, jokes, and historical references.
• The ride soundtrack now features Electric Mayhem versions of well-known rock songs.
• Hollywood scenes and signs along the ride route have received Muppet details and visual gags.
• The exterior guitar and attraction signage have been redesigned around The Muppets.
• The exit shop, Rock Around the Shop, now carries attraction and Muppet concert merchandise.

Although longtime riders will recognize the layout and physical sensations, the story and entertainment surrounding the coaster are substantially different.

What Stayed the Same?

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster remains one of the most intense attractions at Walt Disney World.

The ride still includes:

• A high-speed launch from zero to 60 miles per hour
• Three inversions
• Two rollover loops and one corkscrew
• A dark indoor track
• Loud onboard music
• Limousine-style ride vehicles
• A 48-inch minimum height requirement

The Muppet theme makes the attraction funnier, brighter, and more playful, but it does not reduce the physical intensity.

Parents should not assume this is now a mild family coaster simply because Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Animal are involved.

The Preshow

The preshow takes place inside the recording studio, where Scooter is trying to persuade The Electric Mayhem to stop playing and head to the concert.

He receives help—or something resembling help—from a team of penguin audio engineers.

Scooter appears as an Audio-Animatronics figure, giving the character a prominent physical role in the attraction rather than limiting the preshow to video screens.

The basic setup will feel familiar to guests who experienced the Aerosmith version: visitors interrupt a recording session, discover the performers are late for an engagement, and are invited to join them in a fast trip across Hollywood.

The difference is that the new preshow fully embraces Muppet humor. Plans become unnecessarily complicated, the technology receives a ridiculous acronym, and Scooter is left trying to impose order on people who have no interest in being orderly.

The Electric Mayhem Soundtrack

Music remains central to the ride.

Disney announced five primary songs recorded by The Electric Mayhem, sometimes joined by guest performers:

How Intense Is Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets?

The launch is the attraction’s defining physical moment.

Instead of slowly climbing a lift hill, the limousine accelerates almost immediately. Riders are pressed firmly into their seats as the vehicle reaches approximately 60 miles per hour in about three seconds.

The first inversion follows quickly, giving riders little time to adjust before the coaster enters its darkened layout.

The ride is relatively short, but it combines several intense elements:

• Rapid acceleration
• Three inversions
• Darkness
• Loud music
• Bright signs and lighting effects
• Quick directional changes

The over-the-shoulder restraint holds riders securely, but some guests find the launch, inversions, or side-to-side movement uncomfortable.

Guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride.

Rider Switch is available for parties with a child or another guest who cannot ride. This allows one eligible adult to wait with the non-rider while the rest of the party experiences the attraction, then switch without requiring the second group to wait through the full standby line again.

Ask the Cast Member at the attraction entrance to arrange Rider Switch before anyone enters the queue.

Standby, Lightning Lane, and Single Rider

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets offers several ways to ride:

• Standby queue: Available during normal attraction operations.
• Lightning Lane Multi Pass: The attraction is included among the first selection group at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Guests can choose only one advance selection from that group when making their initial Multi Pass choices.
• Lightning Lane Premier Pass: Includes one-time Lightning Lane access to participating attractions in the park.
• Single Rider: Available to guests willing to separate from their party and fill empty seats.

Single Rider can reduce the wait, but it does not guarantee a short line. You also will not choose who rides beside you, and your party may be separated into different vehicles.

The attraction is included in Early Theme Park Entry when operating. Guests eligible for Early Entry may find that visiting at the beginning of the morning provides a better standby opportunity than waiting until the middle of the day.

The attraction is particularly well suited to guests who felt Disney’s Hollywood Studios needed a major new home for The Muppets after the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D.

It gives the characters a prominent location and a major attraction, although it delivers a very different experience from their former theater show.

Who Should Skip It?

This attraction is not a good fit for everyone.

Consider skipping it if you:

• Are uncomfortable with inversions

Guests who want to enjoy the Muppet atmosphere without riding can still explore the surrounding courtyard, visit FØØD by Swedish Chef, and shop at Rock Around the Shop.

Is It Better Than the Aerosmith Version?

That answer will depend heavily on what each guest valued about the former attraction.

The underlying coaster remains familiar. Riders still experience the launch, inversions, darkness, and limousine vehicles that defined Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith.

The primary differences are the entertainment layers surrounding that ride system:

• The Muppet story
• Scooter’s Audio-Animatronics preshow appearance
• The Electric Mayhem soundtrack
• New queue exhibits and jokes
• Muppet-inspired Hollywood scenes
• A brighter and more comedic personality

Aerosmith fans may miss the original performers and soundtrack. Muppet fans may find the new version richer, funnier, and more connected to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The Muppets Have a New Home—but It Is Not Muppet*Vision 3D

The attraction’s arrival carries additional meaning because Muppet*Vision 3D closed before the new coaster opened.

For many longtime fans, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets represents both a major investment in the characters and a reminder of what Hollywood Studios lost.

The new ride gives The Muppets a visible, high-profile presence in one of the park’s busiest areas. It also introduces the characters to guests who might never have watched the original films or visited the former Muppet Courtyard.

But a high-speed roller coaster cannot fully replace a theater attraction that almost every member of a family could enjoy together.

That does not make the new coaster a failure. It simply means the two attractions serve very different audiences and purposes.
