Beauty and the Beast fans, rejoice! Beast’s castle is nestled in Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom.
Those foreboding doors house one of Walt Disney World’s most immersive restaurants, Be Our Guest.
Before the Meal
From the moment you enter those double doors, you are completely immersed in the story. There are touches of Beast’s bachelor days, like the gargoyles outside the doors, but you see the touches of their love on the inside.
The introduction of the classic film uses stained glass to tell the tale of the Enchantress. The restaurant uses mosaic tile to bring some of that artistry to the foyer of the restaurant. Mind you, this is just the foyer. We haven’t even walked in yet!
Beast’s Study
Be Our Guest is one of the most popular restaurants in all of Walt Disney World. You MUST have a reservation in order to dine here. Also, do not expect your table to be ready exactly at your reservation time. Luckily, there is a large waiting room for guests to wait for their name to be called.
That room is the Beast’s study!
To get there, you must walk down the hall with the suits of armor. This area is perhaps the most overlooked and underappreciated area. They talk! Yes, the suits of armor will talk amongst themselves, sneeze, and even say things to guests! I was near one who was trying to sweet talk me into running away with him! (Too bad my husband was with me… Kidding!)
The Beast’s study itself features his massive fireplace, luxurious heavy draperies, rich wood tones, and royal colors. It felt so authentic that I was just waiting for Chip and the footstool to run in!
Dining Rooms
Be Our Guest is a restaurant that people go to for the ambience and design more than anything. Imagineers are akin to magicians. We had to remind ourselves that Beauty and the Beast was an animated film because we’re pretty certain we were in the ballroom. The real ballroom!
Grand Ballroom
Close your eyes. Picture Belle and Beast dancing in the ballroom while Mrs. Potts sings “Tale As Old As Time”. Remember the grand gold colors? The cherubs on the ceiling? And even the snow softly falling outside on a dark winter’s night? Yup. It’s all there. All of it.
The Grand Ballroom has an immediate awe factor. It is opulent with rich golds and blues, and larger than life windows and tapestries. There are even multiple 5 layer chandeliers. Look up at the ceiling – You will even see the whole ceiling painted with the cherub babies.
FUN FACT: The cherub babies on the ceiling are actually the children of the imagineers who worked on the project!
The most amazing feat that the imagineers have completed in the Grand Ballroom is that they managed to make it snow in Florida! Look out the windows! Whether it is noon or 3:00 in the afternoon, it will be dark outside and lightly snowing. You will even see the snow accumulate on the window sill!
The Grand Ballroom is the largest of the dining rooms. We believe that if you have a big Beauty and the Beast fan, this is the MUST DO dining room.
The West Wing
Remember, you can go anywhere in the castle… Except the West Wing! Why? It’s forbidden! As the smallest dining room, guests in the West Wing will have a darker, more mysterious experience.
There is a storm brewing outside, so if any of your friends or family are afraid of thunderstorms, just know that this room will hear rolls of thunder and see cracks of lightning.
Did you see that?! During a flash of lightning, the ripped portrait of the Beast as a prince transforms into the Beast!
Speaking of ripped – The West Wing is the Beast’s destroyed man cave area. The draperies are torn, there are spider webs, dark foreboding colors, and lots of candles. The draw of this room is the enchanted rose. You can see the magic rose glowing under its protective glass.
The Rose Room
The Rose Room was created by Imagineers as a third room and did not appear in the film. This room is a celebration of Belle and Beast’s life together. The centerpiece of the room is a large music box of Belle and Beast made by Maurice, Belle’s father, as a wedding present. The rest of the room is decorated with paintings of Belle and Beast and everyday life in the castle.
While the room is beautiful, we wouldn’t want to dine in here because it’s not part of the film.
PRO-TIP: You can request a dining room prior to seating. They cannot guarantee your request, of course, but if you are courteous to the Cast Member they will try everything to fulfill your request.
The Food
Be Our Guest is a prix fixe menu that includes an appetizer, meal, and dessert for each guest. Pricing is $62 per adult and $37 for children 3-9. Children under 3 eat for free off of their parent’s plates, however, they will provide infants and toddlers with complimentary macaroni and cheese!
Appetizers
The cuisine is a blend of classic French and American style food. Their most popular appetizer is the French Onion soup, but we had the Duck and Pork Terrine, Escargot, and the Country Seasonal Salad, and we were very impressed right from the start. All of the food is very rich.
Escargot
Here’s your PSA and go out of your comfort zone! Try escargot! Yes, that is a plate of slugs. If you love garlic and butter, you might like these.
Entrees
While there are many great options for entrees like pork, chicken, and fish, most people go for the filet mignon. Since the price is the same for everything, you might as well get the most expensive cut of meat.
Filet Mignon
The steak is seasoned beautifully and all of the sides complimented it as well. Everyone at our table ordered a different temperature of meat and we’re happy to say all of them were perfect! The meat is tender and almost able to be cut with a fork.
Dessert
Everyone at the table will receive a dessert trio, unless they would like the plant-based option. The trio contains the coveted item… It’s the moment that all Beauty and the Beast fans have waited 30 years for. It’s time to try the gray stuff! We hear it’s delicious!
The Grey Stuff
The Gray Stuff is actually a cookies and cream panna cotta served in a chocolate tart shell with a little Chip on top. In addition to that, there is a rich dark chocolate truffle and lemon jam macaron. The years of waiting were worth it. The Gray Stuff was in fact, delicious, and was everyone’s favorite item. Though the truffle was a close second.
Kids Menu
Every Disney restaurant has a kids menu and they usually have the typical items like chicken nuggets, hot dogs, pizza, etc. This is not that place. Prep your kids about eating in a nice restaurant where the food is fancy and napkins are cloth.
Be Our Guest is a very expensive dining experience, so we want you to know everything before you go!
Personal Experience
My 7 year old daughter is picky. Picky, as in I carry Nutella sandwiches in WDW, so here’s our picky eater review.
Appetizer
She got the fruit and cheese plate. The grapes and two strawberries were gone in a second. But the cheese was not cheese that kids are used to. We thought they were mozzarella and cheddar, but we had a good laugh when she tried it they were muenster and gouda.
Entree
We’re happy to say that Be Our Guest offered macaroni and cheese as an entree, as well as green beans and french fries. Naturally, the fries were gone quickly, and the beans were tasted and played with. The macaroni and cheese, however, was a no-go. To be fair, it was pretty dry.
Dessert
The kids dessert trio was so awesome, I felt jilted! They had the same truffle, which remember, is dark chocolate, so you might have yourself a second truffle. *Wink, wink* There is a little swirl of the Gray Stuff on the side, which this time is not the star of the show… A full white chocolate Chip is on the plate! Not just that, but children are also given a paint brush with different colored ganache on the plate to paint him! Have you ever seen anything so cute!
The Experience
For any fan of Beauty and the Beast, this restaurant has to be on their bucket list. It is incredible and the food is delicious! We felt like children seeing all of the details brought to life. The whole experience from check in to the time we paid the bill was around 2 ½ hours. That is important if you are traveling with small children.
While the restaurant was very full and every seat was accounted for, we never felt rushed. In fact, we felt the opposite. The service was attentive and very relaxed.
What About Characters?
We dined at Be Our Guest in September of 2022 and Belle was nowhere to be found. We’re not sure if Disney is planning on bringing her back to character dining. Beast will come out every 20 minutes to meet his guests, but he will only walk by and bow. He does not sign autographs, take pictures, or give hugs.
