Are you ready to blast off in this hyperspeed roller coaster ripping through galaxies?

We hope you’re not afraid of the dark because there is no atmosphere in space, therefore… no light! You will see glimpses of light before you go into a wormhole! Get ready for Tomorrowland’s Space Mountain.
The Queue
Space Mountain has an average wait time of around 35 minutes, so when Disney is offering Genie+ Lightning Lanes (Paid line bypass service), we say it’s totally not necessary. Disney’s Genie Tip Board (the free Genie within the My Disney Experience App) will show forecasted wait times throughout the day to help you determine when is the best time to hop in line!
The building and cue is meant to be a blast into the galaxy, but if we’re being honest, it’s a blast from the past into the 90s. That’s ok, we love the 90s! The queue line is pretty dark and is a constant incline. In addition to the incline, it’s important to note that the queue is always very tight and crowded, as well as dimly lit with blue and purple lights.
The Ride
Space Mountain – 44 in. Height Requirement
Cast Members refer to the ride vehicles as sleds because they are reminiscent of the Disneyland Matterhorn Bobsled ride vehicles. We love this ride, but we need to talk about those sleds. These are very low and very awkward. Your legs will slide forward beside the person in front of you. In addition to being low and tough to get in, these seats are incredibly tight! Beware!

Space Mountain has a special pouch in front of the rider to place items like Minnie ears!
The ride on Space Mountain is a lot like Squirt’s speech in Finding Nemo. You’re going to rip, roll, and punch! It’s so dark that you won’t know which end is up as you’re speeding and whizzing through. Are you brave enough to put up your hands? If it were perfectly dark then it would be easy because you don’t know what you don’t know, but not with Space Mountain. There is just enough light to see parts of the ride structure and it looks so close!
The awesome part of Space Mountain is when you get off you can’t tell if you’re grinning ear to ear because it is genuinely a great ride or because you feel like you cheated death! Or at the very least, got a spinal realignment.
Child Swap
Because of the height requirement, Space Mountain offers Disney’s Child Swap service so that everyone that wishes to ride can. To use, simply speak with the Cast Member at the Lightning Lane entrance and ask to use Child Swap. They will scan your ticket and the ticket of one person that will go on with you after the wait. You will wait outside of the line with the small child and the rest of the party will wait in line as normal. After they exit the ride, you can then go through the Lightning Lane with the other person that the Cast Member scanned before while the rest of the party stays with the child.
Since this is a dark ride, there’s a good chance that children who are tall enough to ride might be too scared to ride, and that’s okay! You can still use the Child Swap service for them as well.
IMPORTANT: Even though you will use the Lightning Lane line when using the second half of your child swap, you DO NOT need to have Genie+ (Disney’s paid service).
Extras
Remember your time on Space Mountain with a special PhotoPass ride photo! Ride photos are included in Disney’s Memory Maker packages.
History
Space Mountain from My Room in the Contemporary Resort – Tron Construction to Right Rear
The building that holds Space Mountain is becoming as iconic as Cinderella Castle to the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. Space Mountain is a cousin to the Disneyland thrill attraction, The Matterhorn, hence the “sleds.” After the success of the Matterhorn, Walt Disney decided that thrill rides did have a place in his parks.
