  1. Branda says

I called Disney and if the Halloween event is sold out, you will NOT be able to purchase tickets with a military ID. Sold out is sold out. So you can either buy them in advance at regular price or take a chance that they won’t be able when you get there.

    • Steve says

      Hi Branda,

Thanks for checking, but I have coordinated this with Walt Disney World. It is correct and it was the policy last year which many took advantage of.

I have been following Disney Military Discounts and reporting on them for over 5 years now and there is one thing I’ve found to be true:

Disney Call Center workers, wile very nice and well meaning, are VERY uneducated on military discounts (the Disney Armed Forces Salute in general and especially small local offers like this). They are all part time workers, and there seems to be no process to educate them on military related info. You can call five times and get three different answers to the same question (even on the AFS).

It doesn’t surprise me that the Call Center workers in Tampa or Memphis are unaware of an offer so small as this which effects 1 park on 6 nights. This is a local offer at WDW.

So, thanks again for checking. If you are not comfortable with the information I’ve shared, you can call 407 WDISNEY to purchase full price tickets ahead of time.

Just wanted to add that the ticket window had a sign that said “sold out” the day we went to buy tickets for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party 2012. It looked closed! We were very disappointed, BUT my husband went ahead to the window and they definitely had military tickets available for our family of 6. I am so glad we asked!

  3. Mike says

Steve great job in what you do! I just signed up for your newsletter and you provide great information to share!

Does Disneyland provide military discount for the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party?

      • michele says

Disneyland absolutely DOES have a Halloween Party. Same as Disney World. Certain nghts, need an extra ticket. We have gone to it, and plan on gong again this year.

        • Steve says

          Thanks for the info Michele,

When did you first go to these? I hadn’t heard of them before, in fact I looked at the DL website for it last year ant there was no info. Also As recently as last June Disney officials told me that they don’t have special after hours parties at DL, they just have the total Halloween makeover.

          • michele says

            Hi Steve

The first year we went ws 2011. You get a wrist band, starts at 7, but can enter as early as 4. Basically the very same as Disney World. If you click on your link above for the “halloween makeover” it actualy has all the information for the party. Ticket prices, nights, etc. I don’t know about Disney World since we haven’t been to that after hour party, but Disneyland brings out extra decorations for the party nights. The characters are out in full force. Mickey and Minnie in theWitch/wizard costumes, and all the villains. And then you go back the next day, and the halloween dcorations are scaled back for the regular days. Special halloween Parade, and trick or treating. I think it’s impossible for the park to get everyone out who hasn’t purchased a ticket for the night event, but you have the wristband. If you don’t have it, you can’t trick or treat. You can’t ride the rides. You still get to see the park if you haven’t been forced out, but that’s all you get o do. Like i said, looks exactly like the WDW party night from what I have seen online. It’s awesome, and can’t wait to go ths year. Just need to find out if they have military pricing for the party. We plan on going with a couple of my daughters girlfriends for her 14th birthday.

          • Steve says

            Thanks so much Michele!

I always thought it was odd they would do it at WDW and not at DL. But what Disney told me last summer (at WDW) was that the DL attendance was made up of 90% AP holders and that was what they’d said they’d wanted…

            Thanks for the great info.

I have an email for DL Media relations who I’ll email Mnoday to ask about discounts.

          • michele says

Me again, I looked at DL site, and they are only calling it Mickey’s Halloween Party. But it is still the same a the MNSSHP.

Steve, Do you have information on your site about the photo pass pre-purchase?

  4. Blanca Hammond says

Any special discounts on Universal Parks of Florida…. I saw a post of the park bring back a special for 2013 military but could not find it.

  5. Marc says

For an event like this – do you have to have a ticket to the park also? Or does this special ticket get you into the Magic Kingdom for that time-frame? Trying to maximize park time using the 4-day hopper in a 6 day window …. if no ticket needed then this would be a 5th “park visit”. If ticket is needed, then I would need to add it to one of the 4 days …

    • Steve says

      Hi Marc,

No extra ticket is required for the party, you do get admission for that timeframe and you can get in as early as 4pm with these tickets.

      • Vanessa says

        Hi Steve,

I’m a little confused with the Halloween party at Disney World. Could you clarify: If my family has a military 4 day hopper pass, we do or don’t need to purchase extra tickets to the Halloween party? If we’re already in the park, it seems like a lot to purchase extra tickets . We’re going the week of Oct. 19th, 2013.
        Thanks!

        • Steve says

          Hi Vanessa,

          Sure.

Mickey’s not So Scary Halloween Party is an extra cost special event. The Magic Kingdom closes for the day for regular day guests without party tickets at 7 PM. These guests will have to leave. Only those who have purchased the party tickets will be allowed to remain.

I know it is an extra cost but it is an extra event that WDW outs on with things going on that don’t normally take place.

  6. Jacqueline Brown says

I was just wondering how many tickets you can purchase on an ID. Is it like the 4 day park pass where you can purchase for friends and family?

    Thanks!

    Jacqueline

  7. Rachel says

Just wondering if they have added added military discount tickets beyond September since they renewed the Armed Forces Salute? If not, have they ever done it in years past?
    Thanks!
    Rachel

    • Steve says

In the past they have added a night or two, but there is no chance of a big extension for they parties. It is based on attendance (discounts on low attendance nights)

  8. Dee says

After calling the DisneyLAND ticket office, they assure me the west-coast park is not offering any military discount for the halloween event held at Disneyland. This specially ticketed ‘trick or treat’ party style event was originally held at DCA until just a few years ago when it was moved to DL. Other discounts do include one for annual passholders, DisnseyChase card holders & DisneyVacation Club members. When we use to go it was only $25-31 p/p to go, so the price has inflated considerably. Rides are reportedly open at most attractions, call to confirm.

  9. Patricia says

So if we buy our MNSSHP tickets when we get there, do they have to be activated like the Park Hopper tickets? If so, can they be activated ahead of time or do we have to wait til the night of the party? Thanks!!

    • Steve says

      Hi Patricia,

The AFS tickets are the only tickets with the activation hurdle. All other tickets such as the MNSSHP tickets are ready to go when purchased.

  10. Karen says

Hi, Steve. Thanks so much for your informative site. I was just wondering if you know if the AD military member (in this case my husband who is on duty this weekend and cannot attend) has to be present or if the spouse (myself) and children can get the discount with my dependent military ID? I called the WDW line but, just like you said, got two conflicting answers on two different calls. The first calltaker told me we could absolutely get the discount with my ID at the gate. Then I called back with a different question and mentioned my husband wouldn’t be there and calltaker #2 said, no he had to be present and tried to sell me advance purchase tickets (still a discount, but nowhere near as good as the military one :). Would really love to have a definitive answer before driving 4 hours this Friday but am hesitant to call again because I don’t know if I will get the correct information. Thanks!

    • Steve says

      Hi there Karen,

I’ve never heard of spouses not being able to buy the MNSSHP tickets. Hope you guys have fun!

      Steve

  11. Angelica Calderon says

Last year WDW open up military dates in october. Any word if this is going to happen again. I’ve been calling every week and no change yet. I saw the update here last year and we were able to go because of it. I would really like for my husband to go this time. Thanks in advance.

  12. Patricia Hoffmann says

Is Disney World offering military discounted tickets for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party for the month of October 2013? I’ve only seen dates through Sept. at the discounted rate?

    • Steve says

      Hi Patricia,

No they only offer military discounts for the first month of the Halloween and CHristmas parties. These dates have lower attendance, hence the discount.

      Steve

  13. George says

I am Sorry to say, But I went to the Gates of Magic Kingdom (in costume) on September 27, 2013 and was DENIED the ability to get the Tickets (cause the event was sold out) with my Active Duty Military ID. . . I don’t know who gave you this information Steve, but I got two Disney Manages involved (one named Mark) and did get one day ticket complementary to Magic Kingdom for the following day. . .

    • Steve says

      Hi George,

I’m so sorry to hear that! It was the Walt Disney World Company that gave me that information!

Were you at the Magic Kingdom Guest Services Office? that is the ONLY location where you can do this, yesterday several people contacted me to tell me they got theirs there. Other GR and ticket locations at WDW do not do this and potentially might not know about it!

      Steve

      • Marie says

Does this mean Disneyland in California will not honor day of purchases with Military ID if the park is sold out?

        • Steve says

          Hi Marie,

Disneyland doesn’t do anything special for the military as far as the Halloween and Christmas parties.

The sold out date purchase for military is a deal I worked out with WDW in conjunction with the military discount they already had in-place.

    • david says

It works. make sure you go to the ticket office outside mk gate on the right. i just got tix after sold out.

  14. Stephanie says

Do you know if there is anywhere that you can purchase tickets to MNSSH if its sold out? I know it’s probably a long shot…but just wanted to see if you have any suggestions :)

    Thank you!!!

      • Stephanie says

Thank you, Steve. I did read it….I guess I just wanted to be clear. Even though Halloween is sold out, if I go to MK Guest Relations I can get tickets that day? I’m debating a last minute trip so I just want to be sure before I decide.

Thank you for all of the WONDERFUL info you have here and on Facebook!!! :)

        • Steve says

Yep, that is the deal I worked out with WDW for military members.

If any date is sold out whether the Sept military discounted dates or the Oct regular priced dates, military members who show up at the MK GR window (through the bag check, to the right of the train station) will be allowed to buy tickets.

          You bet! ;-)

          • Amanda says

            Hi Steve,

Will we be able to purchase the six tickets per military ID if the event is sold out and not on one of the military dates? Thank you!! :)

          • Steve says

            Hi Amanda,

Yes, military members may purchase tickets for any date that is sold out, military discounted (all over now) or regular price nights :-)
