Step into the heart of nostalgia on Main Street, U.S.A., where early 20th-century small-town America comes to life through charming architecture, vintage vehicles, and the warm scent of fresh popcorn and baked goods. Inspired by Walt Disney’s own hometown of Marceline, Missouri, this is where every Disneyland day begins—and ends—with a sense of wonder, comfort, and connection to the man who started it all.

Attractions

Disneyland Park Main Street Flag Retreat

Disneyland Park Main Street Flag Retreat

  • Disneyland Railroad – Ride aboard a genuine steam-powered train for a 20-minute grand circle tour around Disneyland Park. With stops at New Orleans Square, Mickey’s Toontown, and Tomorrowland, this journey offers unique views of the park—and a touch of railroading heritage that Walt himself loved. Five beautifully restored locomotives, each built around the turn of the 20th century, power this unforgettable trip through time.
  • Flag Retreat Ceremony – Held daily at 5:00 p.m., this heartfelt tribute honors America and its military service members. Disneyland’s version is unique—the ceremony is conducted entirely by Cast Members and includes patriotic music, salutes, and the lowering of the American flag on Town Square.
  • The Disney Gallery – In the Main Street Opera House:  This small theatre features two Audio-animatronics shows. Audio-animatronics are one of Walt Disney’s big innovations, lifelike figures (human or animal) that are animated via hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanics, with movements timed precisely to an audio track. You’ll find these characters in many Disneyland attractions.
    •  One Man’s Dream – In this new attraction, join us for a cinematic journey tracing Walt’s life from his early endeavors to the bright lights of Los Angeles and beyond. The experience culminates with a visit to Walt’s office. Here, encounter Walt like never before: watch as he shares heartfelt stories, anecdotes and words of wisdom through the magic of the Audio-Animatronics storytelling he helped pioneer.
    • Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln – The Disneyland Story takes you on a nostalgic look at Disneyland, with photos, maps, videos, and other memorabilia from its history. Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is the original Disney Audio-Animatronics show first displayed at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York.
  • Main Street Cinema – A small standing (no seats) theater showing continuous loops of black-and-white Disney cartoon shorts starring Mickey, Minnie, and their classic pals. It’s an authentic nod to Disney’s animation roots and a great place to cool off or slow down mid-day.

Dining

Disneyland Park Main Street Jolly Holiday Bakery

  • Jolly Holiday Bakery Café (B, L, D, $) – Counter Service – Mobile Order. Inspired by Mary Poppins, this charming café serves fresh pastries, specialty coffees, and signature sandwiches and salads. Try the fan-favorite grilled cheese with tomato soup.

  • Plaza Inn (B, $$$ | L, D, $$) – Buffet/Table Service. Famous for its Minnie & Friends Character Breakfast—one of Disneyland’s most popular—and its legendary fried chicken for lunch and dinner. A true Disneyland dining classic.
  • Refreshment Corner (L, D, $) – Counter Service – Mobile Order. Cozy up to a chili dog, soft pretzel, or Coca-Cola float while enjoying live ragtime piano performances right out front.

Ambiance & History

Main Street, U.S.A. was the first land guests encountered when Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955, and it remains the emotional heart of the park. Designed to resemble a Midwestern American town at the turn of the 20th century, it draws heavy inspiration from Walt Disney’s childhood memories of Marceline, Missouri, and his early adult years in Kansas City.

The street’s architecture reflects a blend of Victorian and Edwardian styles, creating a welcoming, timeless atmosphere. From the rhythmic clip-clop of the horse-drawn streetcar to the barbershop harmonies of the Dapper Dans, every detail celebrates small-town optimism and community spirit.

The land also serves as home to City Hall (Guest Relations), the Firehouse (housing Walt’s private apartment above), and the Main Street Vehicles, including vintage cars and horse-drawn trolleys that carry guests toward Sleeping Beauty Castle.

At night, Main Street glows under thousands of warm incandescent bulbs—a tribute to the magic of both innovation and nostalgia that defines Walt Disney’s vision.

Disneyland Park Layout

Disneyland was originally built using the “Classic Disney” theme park layout that originated with this park, that being a single entrance land with a hub at the far end of that land, and the other lands arranged in a semi-circle around the hub. As time went on, a rear entrance in Tomorrowland was added, as were more lands that do not connect with Main Street.

Disneyland is composed of:

  • Main Street U.S.A. The entrance land of the park. Sleeping Beauty Castle is the focal point of the hub at the end of Main Street (Main Street runs north/south).

Lands connected directly to Main Street, moving clockwise around the hub:

  • Adventureland – Connects to Main Street, Frontierland, and New Orleans Square
  • Frontierland – Connects to Main Street, Adventureland, New Orleans Square, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and Fantasyland
  • Fantasyland – Connects to Main Street, Frontierland, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Mickey’s Toontown, and Tomorrowland
  • Tomorrowland – Connects to Main Street and Fantasyland. Also connects to Downtown Disney via Monorail

The following Lands are not connected to Main Street, and are accessed through those that are:

  • New Orleans Square – Connects to Adventureland, Frontieerland, and BAyou Country
  • Bayou Country – Connects to New Orleans Square and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
  • Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Connects to Bayou Country, Frontieerland, and Fantasyland
  • Mickey’s Toontown – Connects to Fantasyland

Wrap-Up

Main Street, U.S.A. is more than just the park’s entrance—it’s a living storybook page where the past and present meet. Whether you’re starting your day with coffee from Market House, enjoying a flag retreat at sunset, or catching one last look at Sleeping Beauty Castle under the glow of lamplight, Main Street is the emotional heartbeat of Disneyland Park.
